#art #handicraft
Hello everyone and welcome back to my channel it's Dani. Today's video is a follow-along tutorial
to crochet this beautiful sea turtle. This is Fred the sea turtle and it is a relatively easy
pattern to make but I'm gonna start with a big disclaimer and in order to make this beautiful
plushie you already need to know all the basic stitches so I'm not gonna go into details on
how to do a single crochet, an increase, an invisible decrease and all of that you already
need to know how to make all the stitches in order to make the little Freddy. So in order
to follow along with this video you're gonna need the written instructions that you can find for
free on my blog and if you would like the ad-free pdf you can purchase that on my shop the link
it's going to be in the description box of this video the pdf version is really good because you
can download, print and do you know whatever you want with the pattern and you don't have to be
going back and forth on my blog so the link is in the description box of this video you get there
everything that I used in this video as well all the materials and pretty much everything it's
going to be listed down below so please check that out and before we get started please pull
up the pattern again you can find it on cjdesignblog.com and now let's get into the video.
To make this pattern you're going to need two crochet hooks one is an eight millimeters and
the other one is seven millimeters you will also need scissors, a tapestry needle, locking stitch
markers at least four of them and you can also use the round wand if you like to mark the beginning
of the round you will also need polyfill and two colors of yarn the main color will be for the head
the body and the legs and then the contrast color will be for the shell I'm using bernat blanket
the regular one which is a category six and you are also going to need safety eyes I'm using
20 millimeters and all the materials that I used including the safety eyes are going to be linked
in the description box now let's begin we're gonna start with the head in a seven millimeter
and your main color we're gonna start making a magic ring or an adjustable ring however you call
it and in this magic ring we're going to make six single crochets so start with your single crochets
until you have six once you have the six single crochets now pull tight to close the magic ring
and now let's go ahead and go to round two for round two we're going to do increases
so two single crochets per stitch we should end up this round with 12 stitches
so two single crochets in each stitch now for round three you're going to do one single crochet
in one stitch and then one increase in the next stitch and you're going to repeat the sequence
all the way around so we have one single crochet then we have an increase so two single crochets
in one stitch and then we repeat one single crochet increase one single crochet increase
all the way around now in round four we're going to have two single crochets and then one increase
so make your first single crochet then the second one and in the third stitch make an increase
so two single crochets in the same stitch and then repeat the sequence two single
crochets one increase two single crochets one increase all the way around
now from round five to seven we're going to do single crochet all around you don't need
to increase or decrease and if you want to go ahead and do the three rounds at once
you need 72 stitches in total once we are done we have half of the head ready
now grab your safety eyes and place them between rounds four and five from the center
so we count and in here in between rounds four and five you place your safety eyes
again i'm going to link the ones i'm using in the description box of this video
now that we have them like this we are gonna go and put the little plastic washer
and in here i like to go a little bit more safe if you like i like putting a little piece of
fabric this is the fabric that you use for punch needle i believe i don't know the name of the
fabric exactly and i cut a little square then i cut a little hole in the middle and i place it
right here so that way it's an extra security thing for the safety eyes and make sure that
it's not gonna come off or anything especially when there are little kids
using these little plushies i like to take that extra step and sometimes i even glue them so
that's also nice i like the extra security so once that is done now for round eight we're gonna
start with the decrease so we're gonna do two single crochets single crochet one single crochet
two and then a decrease and we're gonna do the invisible decrease which is basically grabbing the
front post of two stitches and then doing the single crochet as usual then we have one invisible
decrease then we're gonna go two single crochets again and another decrease and repeat the sequence
now for round nine we're gonna do one single crochet and then a decrease and we're gonna
repeat the sequence all the way around remember we're doing the invisible decrease
so single crochet one and then decrease one single crochet one decrease one all the way around
now before we proceed to the next round we're going to stuff the head stuff firmly but don't
overstuff your head and once you are done now let's go to round 10 that it's going to be
again single crochet one and then one decrease you should end up this round with eight stitches
once you're done now you can fasten off so cut your yarn and i like doing one
slip stitch in here to close and then you can just shove that little tail inside because we're not
gonna use it and it's gonna be inside the head and now we're gonna find the middle we're gonna
put the head like this find the middle go to the back and pinch the back like so and because we
have eight stitches around and we are creating a flat surface we're gonna put four locking stitches
to have those four stitches marked so we have one then pinch grab the stitch that's on the top and
then the one at the bottom pinch again and like i said you should have four stitches four locking
stitch markers and this way we are closing the head and also creating a nice flat surface to
attach the head to my to the body okay so once we have this ready put it aside now grab your
eight millimeter crochet hook and we're gonna start with the legs again using the main color
so you're gonna start with a magic ring or adjustable ring and you're going to single
crochet eight in that magic ring once you have your eight stitches all tied to close
now for round two we're going to do increases all the way around so place place two single
crochets in each stitch until you complete the round you should have 16 stitches
now for round three you're going to do another round of increases so single crochet one and
then increase in the next one single crochet one increase single crochet one increase
all the way around until you have 24 stitches once you have your 24 stitches the last round
round four it's going to be a regular round just single crochet around no increases no decreases
just single crochet all the way around now that we're done we're going to pull up the loop a
little bit now insert your hook this is the wrong side right we're going to shove that
in the middle and we're gonna close to form a semicircle and in here you're going to insert
your hook in the left stitch from that loop and now bring the loop through that stitch
so grab the loop and pull it through now we're going to chain one to secure
now go back in that same spot and single crochet one going to single crochet one
and now you're going to do the same thing all the way around grab one from the front one from the
back single crochet one from the front one from the back and single crochet you should have 12
stitches in this semicircle and this is the leg now you have to make four
so here it is i have one done with 12 stitches now pull a little bit cut the yarn fast and off
and then weaving the end with your tapestry needle you can just bring the yarn in between
and then cut the excess and like i said once you are done with this you need to make four before
continuing to the next step so i have my four legs now onto the shell grab your contrast color
with an eight millimeter hook and you're going to make a magic ring and place six single crochets
in that magic ring pull tight to close and now for a round two you're going to increase in each
stitch you should end up this round with 12 stitches so again two single crochets in each
stitch now for a round three you're going to single crochet one and then increase single
crochet one increase and repeat the sequence all the way around you should end up with 18 stitches
for a round four you're going to single crochet two and then increase so we have the first one
place your marker second one and now we increase making two single crochets in the same stitch
and then repeat the sequence all the way around now for a round five you're going to
single crochet three and then an increase so single crochet one place your marker
then two more and increase in the fourth stitch and now repeat the sequence all the way around
for the last round of increases we're going to do it a little bit different
so we're going to single crochet two we're going to split this the increase so single crochet two
then increase one we're going to have two in here and two at the end okay so do the increase
and now we start with the sequence which is four single crochets and then one increase
four single crochets one increase all the way around until you have only two stitches left
once you have two stitches left single crochet those last two stitches you should have 36
stitches around and by splitting the increases now we have a more round shape now for round
seven to nine we're going to do single crochet all around if you want to go ahead and do all
the stitches at once you need to crochet 108 stitches in total to have those three rounds
completed once you have that done now you are going to grab your work and turn it now you are
facing the inside of the shell so we had it like this now you're going to turn it you're going to
face the inside of the shell and this is around 10 you're going to single crochet around through
the back loop of the stitch only so single crochet one and you can see in here i'm only
doing it through the back loop only i'm inserting the hook in the back loop of the stitch and you're
going to do this all the way around you should have again 36 stitches because we're not increasing
or decreasing once you are done pull the yarn and you can fasten off and now because we have a little
gap in here we need to close it and we're gonna do it using our tapestry needle so just insert to
create a fake stitch and now you can close the gap once you are done now just weaving the ends
to make sure it's nice and secure and this is how your shell should be looking like now we're
going to continue with the body and assembling you're going to grab your seven millimeter crochet
hook your main color yarn and your shell you're gonna make a slip knot and you're gonna insert
your hook in any of the stitches and we're gonna use the loop that we didn't crochet into
and we're gonna place a single crochet now we're gonna single crochet two and as you can see the
inside of the shell is pointing away from us now we're gonna grab the head and we're gonna attach
the head so if you put the shell in its normal position you should have the head also in the
normal position just like so so now we're gonna flip it this way facing down like this to attach
it like this because we have the shell also facing down so now you're gonna remove the first
locking stitch and you're gonna insert your hook in those two stitches and then insert your hook
in the shell the stitch that's in the shell and single crochet one remove the next locking stitch
insert your hook in those two layers then in your stitch that's on your shell
and single crochet again now repeat these for the remaining two stitches
now the head is attached now you're going to single crochet two
one two remember we are working on the loop that we didn't crochet in the last round
so now we're going to attach the first leg and the round part of the leg it's going to face in
the face of little fred so we have to have it like this so this is the right side now we flip it down
and you're going to count three stitches from the top so here's my third
you're going to insert your hook and again insert your hook right here and single crochet one
then insert your hook again in the next stitch and single crochet one and then
last time and now the leg is attached now you're going to single crochet six one two three
four five and six and now you're going to attach the second leg the same way as we attached the
first one with the round part facing the front of the turtle just like so
count three stitches from the top that down insert your hook in that third stitch
and we're gonna have three stitches to attach the leg so one
find the loop in here it could be a little bit hard to see but it's it's pretty easy once you
get the hang of it and then once we have these three stitches now with the second leg has been
attached now you're going to single crochet two one and two and now we're going to create
the tail so chain three one two three now slip stitch two down the chain
one and two and now single crochet two in the next stitch you can go one
then two and now we're going to attach the third leg here we have the little tail look how cute
now we're going to attach the next leg and this one because it's in the opposite side instead of
counting from the top down we're going to start from the top because remember we need the round
part to be facing the front of the turtle so now we start from the top insert your hook
and again you are going to attach the leg with three single crochets here's the second one
and the third now you are going to single crochet six and once you have those six
single crochets you're going to attach the last leg again with three single crochets
and once you are done you might have a little gap in here you are going to continue working
in the round you're not going to join or anything so single crochet one in the next round
single crochet four and then decrease one that's the sequence we are gonna do for
this round single crochet four and then decrease one you are going to get a decrease
right here where the tail is so make sure you pull the tail down like this because we don't
want to have the tail inside the turtle we want it outside so when we're doing the decrease just
make sure to put that tail out of the way and then continue around now for round three we're going to
do three single crochets and then one decrease three single crochets and then one invisible
decrease and repeat the sequence all the way around you should have 24 stitches at the end
now for round four you're going to single crochet two and then decrease single crochet two
decrease and repeat all the way around until you have 18 stitches now you're going to grab your
polyfill and stuff the body again you want the body to be firm but not super super stuffed
now for round five you're going to single crochet one and then decrease single crochet one
decrease all the way around until you have 12 stitches and now for the last round you're going
to decrease all the way around you should end up with six stitches once you are done all you gotta
do is cut the yarn and now using the whip stitch you're going to close that little gap in the middle
so just use the whip stitch around the six stitches and then pull tight to close
and once it's closed now make sure to weave in the end a little bit and then you can
bring the tail inside the body and that is it now you have created this beautiful little sea
turtle with that cute little tail you can't tell me that it is not cute i hope it was helpful i
