As we explore Utah's 5 National Parks, we make an unexpected overnight trip to the White Sands Missile Range Utah Launch Complex in Green River, Utah. It was a total surprise for Linda and the kids. Jason found this hidden gem on iOverlander and decided it was the perfect place to boondock overnight in our luxury motorhome.
Is this literally where we're camping right here?
Bro, this is sketchy.
Are you sure there's nobody in there?
I'm a little freaked out. Freaking out.
We're boondocking for two weeks while we're exploring all five of Utah's national parks
and I gotta hand it to my husband.
Tonight he's got us boondocking somewhere I didn't even know existed.
We're in the middle of Utah just outside of Moab and we're at the green,
well we're at the abandoned Green River Missile Facility.
Back in the day this place launched Athena and Pershing missiles.
So we're going to check it out. The kids are going to explore
and we're going to share this crazy boondocking adventure with you.
I am so excited right now and Normie is too.
We just pulled off the main road.
We're on BLM land already aren't we?
Because we went over a cattle grate and Jason's got a big smile on his face over there
We're close to our surprise boondocking spot. We're less than 10 minutes away.
I think it's either in the middle of a cow pasture or up along some water.
I know that there's got to be a great view,
but those are things that we really love and are super unique.
So I don't know that's just kind of what's coming to mind.
It just makes him smile to have this surprise plant.
Jason just said we've got three miles down this road and it's a semi-paved road,
but we're not going fast.
We might go 20 miles an hour then we slow down to 10
because then it gets a little pitchy and gravelly and potholy.
But we're not going to get stuck.
We're not going to get stuck.
We're getting close and there's some buildings up ahead
which you don't normally see on government land when you're boondocking.
There's a fence too.
There's a fence. There's lots of power poles.
Is that graffiti?
I don't know. What do you guys think? This is crazy.
Are we supposed to go through the fence?
Okay, all right.
Is this like an old military base or something?
It's like bunkers up there. Things are built to the...
I think you can't make that.
Oh yeah, no, no, no.
No, don't turn.
Should we at least get out and...
Are they gonna shut that on us in the morning?
This is feeling very military bunker.
I'm a little freaked out.
I'm freaking out.
I'm turning to military.
Freaking out.
Okay, the road just went to gravel.
We're going up a hill.
And we're going up a hill and we can't see a thing.
Feats of buildings.
What is this?
It says aliens exist.
Oh yay, that's great.
Is this literally where we're camping right here?
Look, this is sketchy.
Are you sure there's nobody in there?
This is an old nuclear test site.
Wow.
Uh, I don't know if that makes me feel comfortable.
We're gonna go inside that?
I don't...
I wish we could go inside.
Although it is kind of nerve-wracking that there's bullet holes.
I don't like this.
This is really freaky.
This is where we're staying.
Okay.
This is gonna be awesome.
How are you gonna get out of here?
I would have never, ever, ever been good.
Okay, I said military base when we got up here.
So I mean, I was close.
Freaking cool.
This is gonna be really cool to go exploring.
Dang.
If you say so.
I'm a little stunned.
This is not at all what I expected.
This is the new area 51 they said.
What do you think?
Is everybody like...
I think this is really cool.
Shook is not happy.
I just thought we were gonna have a really cool view.
And um...
Yeah, we have Aliens Exist 2017 in Utah Area 51.
Like, it's cool.
It's nothing that I expected.
We can then go on the truck and see if we want to go somewhere else.
Why would we want to go somewhere else?
No, I mean in this general area.
Can we just eat?
We're starving.
I want to go on the truck and do explore for a little bit.
See if you want to go somewhere else.
No, no, no.
I want to eat.
Eat.
Exploring.
Dinner, dinner, dinner, dinner.
Look at that hole in the ground.
I'm gonna go see.
It probably goes down like 70 feet.
All right, let's go.
Yeah, don't let Norman fall down that.
That's pretty cool.
Look at that.
Dang.
We'll get the truck and go along that road and go exploring.
There's just some old stuff out here.
Old and run down.
What do you notice this place is missing?
What else?
Nope, what else?
Trees.
I wonder why.
You think they blew them all up?
Nope.
Probably totally radioactive.
Too cool.
You guys see the tracks?
We're thinking what they did to roll the rockets out from there.
Come on, underground something.
Ooh.
Uh, it's like, um, it's like the switch panel box you have in your house.
It's like, um, yeah, electrical panel place.
That's cool.
Babe, how in the world did you find this place?
I used iOverlander, which is one of the apps we use when we travel all the time.
And I was just researching places on our way to Moab and came across another place nearby here.
And they mentioned this place.
So then I started researching it.
And what's cool is it's about a three mile drive up the road, but it's basically a paved road.
So we didn't have any worries with getting our rig up here, which was huge.
Yeah, there were a few little bumps.
Yeah, but it was nothing crazy.
Any rig can make it up here.
Probably the only place nobody even knows about.
Dang.
This is awesome.
Guys, there's a tumbleweed.
Are these systems above us?
Yeah, that bring parts and stuff?
Look for secret chat doors in the ground.
I've already gone in it.
No, no, no, there's two.
Here?
We are about to go exploring down into one of these where these conveyor belts lead.
There is a door that is ajarred.
So we're going to go down there and see what's inside.
Ajarred, that's a big word.
I know, right?
My vocabulary is exceptional.
This place is pretty cool.
Do you have a flashlight?
Or are we just going to...
I have a phone.
Okay, I have mine too.
So we're going to go in here and check this out.
We're also going to go walk to some other places.
There's no idea where.
We're going to go exploration.
My dad for the win, I tell you.
Here we go.
These conveyor belts are pretty sweet.
I think they were probably gravity driven and not automatically operated.
Look down there.
Ajarred.
Do you have a flashlight?
Oh, snap.
No.
That's so cool.
We hope you can feel the excitement of exploring this place through the camera.
Three of the four of us had no idea we were going here.
And it's turning out to be a pretty cool adventure.
Before we continue, so many people asked Jason and I what we do for a living
so we can live this lifestyle.
Well, we've been in the mortgage and real estate industry almost three decades.
Jason's a realtor and I'm a loan originator.
And so what we'd like you to know is that if we could help you in any way,
buying or selling a house, getting a mortgage or a refinance, we would love to.
You can click the link at the top of our description and get some time on our calendars with us.
We'd love to get to know you that way.
Also, we've been digging around on the internet for more information about this facility that
we're at and we found a great website.
We're going to put that in the description too.
It'll probably be the second link.
Click there if you want to learn more about this White Sands Missile Launch Facility.
That conveyor belt tunnel was pretty cool.
Now we're going to go up here.
There's a piece of cement that's like a triangle shape.
And it looks kind of lonely out here.
So we're going to go check that out next.
We're hoping the door to an underground bunker.
Yes, even though we're probably not allowed to go in it.
Go check it out.
Look at this tank up here.
This tank could be filled with gases.
It's empty.
Make sure to keep an eye out for rattlers.
Probably that doesn't look like a door that's open up there.
Check that out.
We just get to stay right there.
There's the place that you can go inside and look.
It had all that broken glass and everything.
I went down here, checked it out.
There's some people staying down there and there's actually a building there.
I really want to go check out.
It just almost looks like they just pulled chairs out of this.
You have the conveyor belts that run all along here.
There's like four more over there.
So many more over there.
A little building over there.
We're going to go check that out.
And obviously, here's the tunnel that goes through to the other side.
We're going to go check it out.
And we're doing all this while parents are making Philly cheesesteaks.
Let's go.
I just don't understand why this thing comes all the way out to here.
Yeah, but why not take it up to there?
Guys, do us a favor.
If you know what these things are, drop them in the comments and tell us what they were used for.
Think back about what some of this stuff was actually used for.
Or what it looks like.
Or what it looked like.
Or like what it looked like in the process of being used.
Like, it's just crazy.
Because everything out here was obviously placed for a reason.
I mean, it's not like it's out here just to waste space.
Well, so then what is this out here?
No idea.
It's really weird.
Is it like to run cable stir?
Made it.
What are down these holes?
Oh.
I'm pretty sure it runs underground to this thing.
And there's those pipes running in.
I like to think people have gone down there.
It worked.
I just want to find like some steps to an underground layer.
Mate, look.
They drank soda back in the day.
Look at that.
That's the oldest thing I've ever seen.
Besides Sarah.
I feel like we're in a movie right now.
Trying to figure it all out.
Even though, is it I-70?
Yeah.
I-70, you can see the cars at night.
You can see their their headlights going down the road.
But you can't hear a thing.
So if you're ever traveling down I-70,
even if you just want to pop in here on your way for a break,
it's right by Green River.
It's actually in Green River.
And come in here and check it out.
There's word that they may tear this facility down at some point.
It's pretty dilapidated.
I mean, it wouldn't take much.
But it is, it's a cool find.
It's a very cool find.
I gotta be honest.
Ours is just a little bit nicer.
There's no hair.
But look at that.
There's an oval.
Wow.
It's nice to see that humans never change.
Look, they had electric back then.
They have electric around the walls for propellants.
That is an earth walker.
That's how sweet is this.
All right, it's time to check out the big warehouse.
Are we now officially explorers?
I think we can classify ourselves as world explorers.
Bro, there's a ladder to the roof.
Okay, that ladder is sick.
Let's check out in here first.
That thing is sturdy.
Yeah.
See these wheels?
Probably on tracks.
There's tracks that continue out.
Probably rolled the missiles through here.
Dang, look at that.
Look at the history.
Look, there's a drain.
It's all clogged.
We are now heading back to the motorhome to fly the drone around
to get some awesome clips for y'all.
And to also, I think we're having dinner, right?
We're having dinner.
So excited for dinner.
Check this out.
Philly cheesesteaks.
We're literally the only people here except for a couple other people down here.
But we're up here on this little high rise and we can see all over here.
So pretty.
That's the other side of that tunnel we went in.
It goes all the way through to the other side.
Look at how that blue is just going crazy.
It's electric blue.
The coolest boondocking space ever.
Yeah, it's pretty cool.
He's pretty bussing.
Pretty bussing.
All right.
What you doing over here, dad?
I'm making dinner.
What an amazing view for dinner tonight on the side of the road.
We have neighbors.
Super nice.
And it's funny, we did Philly cheesesteaks in the Everglades
and it's what we're doing here.
It's kind of like a really healthy, easy meal.
Thank you for being awesome.
You're welcome.
Norman, hey buddy.
Are you having a good time?
Sarah, you flying the drone?
I am on drone duty.
Where is it?
We're way out there.
And Willis is enjoying getting up on top of this.
What do you call it?
A bunker?
Yeah, doing his thing.
So as you can tell from my reaction, I was a little skeptical about staying here.
Is this literally where we're camping right here?
But the kids are having a blast and it's pretty cool to say that you boondocked
next to a nuclear missile bunker or test site or whatever this place really is.
I'm going to read up on it tonight, but everybody's having a great time
and it's still a beautiful view.
So they're saying there's aliens.
Well, at least as of 2017.
It is 2024, but how would I know?
I haven't seen any.
You guys can't see we're outside, but the stars are stunning.
Time for bed.
We're pulling out of here early.
This was a really cool stop and we're glad we got to share it with you guys.
