On this episode of The Movie Podcast, Daniel heads to Los Angeles, California to sit-down with the Millie Bobby Brown & Chris Pratt of THE ELECTRIC STATE. Set in the aftermath of a robot uprising in an alternate version of the ’90s, The Electric State is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and follows an orphaned teenager who ventures across the American West with a cartoon-inspired robot, a smuggler, and his sidekick in search of her younger brother.
Pamela Anderson gave me a rack of her clothes from the 90s, Gwyneth Paltrow.
Yeah.
I know.
So I've been wearing pieces and I will be wearing pieces of, yeah, those kinds of icons.
I joke that I'm, in this movie, I'm Patrick Swayze.
Oh my gosh.
Hello everyone, how are you doing?
Good, man.
How are you doing?
I'm doing so well.
I'm so delighted to be sitting with both of you.
You're both so lovely and you've been part of such incredible projects throughout your
career so far.
Millie, for yourself, you've been killing it with the 90s fits.
Thank you.
So I need to know, what is it you love most about that decade and how did The Electric
State help you explore that more?
I mean, I, yeah, I've been a huge fan of like 90s style, aesthetic, hair, makeup.
So I was really able to, I wasn't, I guess, really as well versed in it before Electric
State.
So Electric State really opened up those kind of ideas of what could be.
And then the press tour, I was really able to indulge in kind of these 90s icons and
actually pull some looks from some of those icons' personal closet.
So we've been really been able to kind of build out this amazing, you know, journey
of what that could look like for the press tour.
So yeah, I've been really, I'm loving it.
Any icons in particular that you were looking towards, like I want to look like?
Well, I mean, I've been, I, you know, Pamela Anderson gave me a rack of her clothes from
the 90s.
What?
Yeah.
I know.
So I've been wearing pieces and I will be wearing pieces of, yeah, those kinds of icons
throughout the press tour.
That's so cool.
It's the Canadians.
The Canadians just like to be very giving.
That's right.
She's an icon.
So yeah, I'm very lucky.
That's amazing.
Chris, for yourself, you know, you're getting to reteam with the Russos.
Yeah.
After working together on a few other films, what was like working with them on this and
just like something I love so much about this film is really about the found family aspect
of it.
So what was like kind of reteaming with your family on this and working with them?
Well, it was great.
I mean, the, the, the work that I did in a supporting way on an Avengers film was probably
limited to about maybe 20 days of shooting over both of those, of those films.
So I got to kind of come in and come out.
And, you know, I was grateful on this movie to see that they had kept so many of the crew
members because many of whom I've worked with before.
So they run a really fantastic set.
People want to be back on their sets and, and, you know, the more I do this, the more
I realize that the experience of being on set, if it's an enjoyable one, that's the
true value of doing the job that we do.
And it doesn't, it's not always the case.
Sometimes it's a real disaster and people are unhappy and they're overworked.
And there's this lack of preparation that bleeds into overtime hours and people working
too long and, and being unsatisfied in their role.
And it's unfortunate because it shouldn't be that way, but under great leadership, it's
not that way.
And with this film, the Russo's were just incredible leaders.
They always knew exactly what they wanted.
They got it efficiently, effectively.
They never were overly stressed and they were able to carry, you know, the, the weight of
all the pressure of doing a massive movie like this and with relative ease, that was
very contagious.
I love that.
And you have, you know, speaking of 90s fits, your hair in this film is fantastic.
I am not dying to Marky Marky the Bunky Bunch!
I actually like this song.
I call it his headset.
Yeah, that's right.
That's right.
It was, yeah, it was my headset.
I'd put my headset on.
That's what it was.
Um, I forgot.
It was great.
I, you know, I really was flipping through icons of the eighties and nineties and I came
on, uh, Bodie from point break and I was like, Oh, see, now this is a movie that I could
see Keats has watched and thought to himself, that's basically me.
You know, I joke that I'm in this movie, I'm Patrick Swayze.
That's amazing.
You both are so lovely.
Thank you so much for your time.
Hopefully we got to talk down the road and all the best in what's to come.
That'd be great.
Good luck.
Thank you so much.
