A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for all of western Massachusetts from 7 a.m. Tuesday until 1 a.m. Wednesday.
This is a 22 News Storm Team weather
alert.
>> Good morning. I'm Storm Team
Meteorologist Alexa Biano live in
Westfield. We're still seeing a few
lingering clouds, but we'll start to
brighten up as we go throughout the rest
of the morning. Forecast focus, we're
bright, brisk, and breezy today. Winter
storm watch for tomorrow. Then we have a
bigger cool down by the end of the week.
Temperatures right now, 38 in Westfield,
38 in Springfield, 37 in Orange, 38 in
Greenfield, and 32 in Pittsville. So 30s
across the board. Not going to wiggle
too much with these temperatures for
today, but some areas will actually cool
down a bit more than what it is this
morning. So, 37 in Springfield today for
a high, 37 in Westfield, and by the time
we get to Hampshire County, 37
Northampton, 36 in Beluretown for the
afternoon, 35 in South Deerfield, 35 in
Orange, Berkshire County, 28 in
Pittsfield, and 29 in Lee. It's going to
also be on the breezier side today. So,
I want a degree cooler than what it is
actually going to be. So, wind gusts
going to pick up in speed today. We're
seeing already 30 mile per winds wind
gust in some areas. So the range is
going to be between 20 and 30. So that
wind chill is going to come into play.
Going to feel more like the 20s than it
is the 30s even though the actual air
temperature is in the 30s. Clouds and
radar. We're mainly dry across the
higher valley here. Massachusetts,
southern New England. We're seeing some
flurries behind me in upstate New York.
Some light snow, but that system is not
going to be bothering us for today. What
we're watching for is for tomorrow is
that winter storm watch. So 7 a.m. we
are starting that winter storm watch
until about 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday for
everybody. So Berkshire County, Pioneer
Valley, Central Mass, even going towards
a bit for the eastern side of the state.
But this morning though, we are going to
be staying with the calm before the
storm. We're going to be staying bright
today. So we're seeing mainly clear
conditions today. By the time we get
towards even 4:00, we're mainly clear
for some areas. A few passing clouds is
possible, but overall mainly clear for
that part of the day. By the time we get
to 9:00 tonight, we're seeing mostly
cloudy conditions. That cloud coverage
rolling in through the overnight hours.
By 6 a.m. tomorrow morning, we're
starting to see some light snow come
through the Birkshars as well as going
west to 91. By the time we get to 11:00
a.m., pretty widespread for everybody.
So, we are seeing more of a sleet wintry
mix along 495 here going passing through
Boston Province towards Hartford,
Connecticut. But we're seeing more snow
as you go more north, especially here in
the Pioneer Valley, Birkshars, and even
central Massachusetts. And where is the
celor seeing more rain if anything by
the time we get to 2:00 tomorrow
afternoon, we are seeing the heaviest
accumulation at this point. So between 1
and 6 is the prime time of this storm
for especially for the snow. So you're
going to be commuting around that time
frame. It's definitely going to make
things messy and definitely going to
slow things down. So make sure to give
yourself enough time. It will be
slippery on the roads coming home from
work tomorrow. By six o'clock, we're
still in the thick of it at this point.
We're still seeing more of a sleepy
action mix going even east of 91 a bit,
even east of Springfield. So, it's
definitely going to be slippery on the
roads tomorrow. So, just be careful. I
can't emphasize that enough. And by the
time we get towards 11:00 tomorrow
night, we're mainly cleared out of this
storm. The storm is pretty much wrapped
up at this point. A few scattered snow
showers is possible throughout the area,
but overall the heavy of it, heaviest of
it has already pushed out by that point.
But the snow accumulation we're seeing
right now, 3 to 6 ines in Brookshire
County, northern Franklin County here,
and also 1 to three in around
Northampton, Holio, and Springfield.
That's what we're seeing as of right
now. 4 in for today though, bright,
brisk, and breezy. 34 to 38 is our range
of highs. And then tonight, 16 to 20 is
our range of lows with that increasing
cloud coverage for tomorrow's storm.
Here is the 22 Storm Team 7-day
forecast. Mostly sunny in the 30s today,
30s tomorrow. Storm Watch, we'll keep
you posted on that. Partly sunny on
Wednesday, drying up, mostly cloudy on
Thursday with windy conditions once
again. And then Friday, we cool down
significantly with a sixdigit degree low
and your highs in the 20s on Friday. And
then we're back into 30 Saturday and
Sunday with a potential for a few
scattered snow showers and also rain
chances a bit on Sunday, but still
remaining on the cool side even with
your lows. Stay updated with the
forecast on the 22s app. It's free to
download and at wwlp.com.
