James Cameron is raising fresh questions about the long-term future of the Avatar franchise,
even as he celebrates the world premiere of its third chapter, Avatar Fire and Ash, on Monday.
Speaking at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Cameron praised his cast and production team.
I learned, I think, how important it is to surround yourself with really creative people
and to build a kind of bond of trust with them, right? So the cast and the artists on this film,
we're on our third film now with some of those cast members and with the same artists,
and we love that working experience together. So I've learned how important that is.
If I do continue with this franchise, for want of a better word, continue with the saga,
it will be because of that. Not because of the success necessarily, but because,
you know, we've earned the respect from each other and the trust from each other,
and we'd love to continue that.
Fire and Ash picks up after the emotional ending of The Way of Water,
expanding Pandora with the Ash people, led by Una Chaplin's fierce beret. Returning stars Sam
Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang anchor the new chapter of a franchise
that has already earned more than five billion dollars worldwide.
Making them is easy, and I love it more than anything in the world, and I love Jim Cameron
more than anything. In reality, my life does a bit of this, but that's okay. It's, you know,
you're telling a story that is connected to a lot of people worldwide, so it's great, you know,
great that it's embraced and, you know, now I can help represent it.
Avatar Fire and Ash opens in theaters on the 19th of December.
