Alright, so you want to take the kids camping but you want to make sure that they're going
to have fun.
They're not going to be bored.
You could have toddlers, teens, it doesn't matter.
Here's some ideas that you could maybe consider if you're going camping with kiddos.
Card games like Go Fish, Uno, there's all kinds of little card games that you can get.
They don't take up a lot of space.
You can throw them in a backpack.
You can put them in your home glove compartment box.
Those kinds of things to be simple for if it's too hot or if it decides to rain.
One thing that we found out years ago was kids really like looking for things.
So scavenger hunt is another good idea.
You can look for pine cones, little spiked gumball things, a certain type of leaf.
We went camping with a family that we've known for years and one of their children still
has a rock that we found camping years ago.
So that was pretty neat.
Another thing to do is find local landmarks that you can go see.
We went to a winery and also an old Civil War battleground area.
We got to check those things out.
So that added a little more to our trip and it was fun and interesting.
Depending on the age of your audience, campfire stories are always a good fun thing to do.
Older kids seem to be interested in the spooky stories.
Maybe there's some urban legends from around where you're at.
Younger kids seem to like funny stories or silly stories.
It really just depends on you and your crowd.
If anything else, you could just say, man, I remember back when I went camping the first
time with so-and-so and we did this and we did that.
And you just share fun, exciting memories of camping to kind of help them get their
imagination going.
And lastly, I'll include one of my favorite things to do, whether we're camping or even
if I'm at home and have some downtime.
Now when we're camping, I absolutely love having shade.
We have a very well shaded spot, nice cool breeze coming through.
But later this evening when the sky is clear and the stars are out, it's a great time to
head over to one of the open spots that they have here at the campground and just check
out the stars.
And just see if you can figure out constellations or various things like that.
It's another way to get the kids engaged and to get them to use their imagination and build
upon this camping experience to have some fun memories.
So that the next time you say, let's go camping, they won't be like, oh my gosh.
They'll be like, all right, let's go.
