In this video we're going to make a very quick and easy necklace. Do you see the colors that I have
here? The aqua and the teal and I even have some fish beads. Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
I'm thinking it's time to make a necklace that reminds us of going to the beach. I don't know
about you but pretty much everyone I know has been going to the beach lately and so that's what
inspired this video. We're going to make a very quick and easy necklace that is beach themed. I
even have some little fish beads in here and we're going to make a little pair of earrings to
coordinate and if you're new to the channel I'm Vicki. Welcome and welcome back to everyone else.
Let's just go ahead and get started with this. I'm going to be using flat nose pliers and then I have
my chain nose or needle nose pliers and we'll need some round nose pliers for making the earrings.
So let's see what we have here. A couple of two inch head pins, some chain for the necklace,
ear wires for pierced earrings, silicone earring backs which I highly recommend,
a lobster clasp, a couple of clamshell connectors, two of those, a few jump rings,
not sure how many I'll need but I pulled out a few, and I have some two tiny little crimp beads,
the flower charm, and assorted beads and findings and colors that made me think of the beach. You
got the pretty shades of blue and aqua, we have some sand color here, the light yellow to me
represents the sun, these are stones, they represent the sand, and assorted other beads and findings.
You will need one other thing, you'll need some 49 strand wire about eight inches.
So get into your bead stash and your findings and see what colors speak to you when it comes to
thinking about the beach. We are not actually going to the beach, although I did live in Florida
many years ago, but we're not heading to the beach, but I can still think about it, right?
So get in your bead stash, have some fun, and pull out the colors that for you represent the beach.
A beach, the ocean, or a lake. About eight inches should be enough. Oh, you might need some scissors
and a ruler, but I assume that you have that already. I like to put a clip on the end. You
can use this type of clip or this type of clip, whatever you prefer. Gosh, I guess we could lay these out.
Lay them out and see if we have a certain way we want to line them up. I know I have two fish in
here that I want to face each other. I could put this bead in the center or the sand bead, what
represents the sand for me. Other than the fish, I don't want the necklace to be symmetrical, so I'm
just going to randomly put some beads and some spacers, and I guess I'll be kind of building it
as I go, but let's see what we can just quickly, without thinking too much, put some beads in here
and findings. That's too symmetrical for me in this case. This is a pretty bead. I think I want
that towards the front. I'm not even sure if I'm going to use that one, and oh, I know, I want two
of these for earrings, so I better not get ahead of myself. Okay, I'm setting those two aside for
earrings. That's why I had too many. I have a couple little round beads if I need them. Something like
this. Even though I already have a clip on here, it doesn't mean I can't start from the center and
move my clip. Let's put this sandy colored bead on first and get our fish, because I do know that I
want that as a focal point. However, the rest of the beads are going to be random. Fish are two-sided.
I went ahead and put the clip back on. Let's just start adding some beads. I'm not putting spacers
in between each bead, just some of them. You can always change it. I'm going to add another clip to this end.
Push the beads down. That's what I have so far, and the fish are going to roll around, and the beads
are going to roll around. I guess I have one more of these left here. This one has a little bit of
blue, and then we have the aqua, and then we have the teal. I guess maybe I'll use only two of these
instead of three. In fact, let's check this here. I don't know if I have my focal point bead centered.
You know what? I'm going to go ahead and finish off with this sandy colored round bead.
I'm not sure though if I like now having three of those, so I'm going to make a little change here,
because that's what we can do when we make our own jewelry. I'm going to take this one out. If you're
enjoying this video, I appreciate a like, comment, and if you haven't done so, please subscribe, and keep
watching. There's more. If you are making something a focal point, you do want to try to have that
centered. I think it looks pretty good. I think that's going to work. Again, you know, not putting
too much thought into it. I am, however, going to put a small round bead on each end just because
I want to. How's that for a reason? Those are little three millimeter beads. Okay, so that's
what I've come up with. I think it's going to work fine. I've got everything represented that I wanted
to have. The sand, the fish, the sun, the different shades of water, and some accent beads, you know,
for fun. These two I reserved. This one has more blue. This one has more aqua. This one has blue
and aqua. I do have some more of these. I think I'm going to pick out one that has some blue and aqua.
Yeah, I'm picking up the blue and the aqua. Okay, I'll set that one aside. I didn't see much blue in it.
That's going to be for the earrings. Next we need the clamshell tip and a small crimp bead. We'll
need one of these for each end. Let's go ahead and take this clip off and thread the wire up through
that center hole on the back side of the clamshell. The wire goes through here and then slip on
the crimp bead. We need to flatten this crimp bead. That's where my flat nose pliers come in
handy. I'm going to take it all the way to the end so that I don't have to trim off the wire
and flatten it. It didn't center up very well on the wire but it should be okay. Then we pull
this down through the clamshell, down through. We want to turn it kind of flat.
Take your flat nose pliers and start closing the clamshell and adjust the wire as you need to
to keep that inside and then close it over top. Don't press on it too hard. You don't want to
smash it. You just want to close it. Push the beads down. Run the wire through the back side
of the other clamshell. Pick up your crimp bead. On this one you have to be a little more careful.
Make sure your beads are pressed down. Run your hand through them so the beads are all together.
This is where I like to use my chain nose or needle nose pliers because I can get in here easier
and push that crimp bead kind of pushing down at the same time. It's kind of hard to show you this
one because it's spinning on me. I'm pushing the crimp bead down the same time I'm pressing it.
If that makes any sense. It's not coming loose. We need to cut that. My wire cutters have been acting up
lately. I'm going to get a new pair. Let's see if I can get this cut. Okay, got it. Let's close this up
slowly. We don't have to be in a hurry because you want it to be aligned. You don't want to
smash it. You just want to gently close it. It closes quite easy. Then we have these hooks on
the end and we can put those hooks into the chain. Let's see what we have here. We have six and a half
inches of beaded section of our necklace and if we want an 18 inch necklace that would be
you need about 12 inches of chain or a little less. We could probably use 11 inches of chain.
That would be five and a half lengths per side of the necklace because you know we have the clasp to
add to and I want to make this a little bit shorter so I'm going to go with five and a half.
Shorter meaning I'm trying not to go over 18 inches. Use your two flat nose pliers and open
up a length. Let's close that up. We want to have two five and a half inch lengths. This is a necklace
that I'm making probably for our eBay store but you can make your necklace any length you would
like. I'm trying to find the cut in the jump ring so that I can separate this and it's stuck.
You just hold one side and push or pull on the other. Close it up. Now which piece was the one I was
trying to to make here? It's not this one. It's got to be this one. Make sure you've got two
pieces of chain the same length. I'm off a notch here. This one's not what I was using so somehow
I got off just a little bit. I need to add in. I don't know how I did that. It must have been
twisted. I need to add in about two lengths. What do you know? I didn't expect that to happen.
I'm just going to take two lengths off of here.
Add this to the end and of course use whatever chain that you like as well.
This is just pretty basic chain. It's nothing too fancy but I am going for a casual look with this.
All right so we have our chain and we're going to put a section of chain there and a section here
and I'm going to attach this with a small jump ring. We have a couple of options. I can either
attach the hook right into the chain. That's one option or we could add a jump ring in between.
Doesn't really matter. I have some jump rings here I can use to separate. I think in this case
this is what I'm going to do. Now I think if you've seen me do this before you know that I
actually prefer to go ahead and close up the little hook first before putting it on the chain.
You got to get a good hold on it because it is hard to get it perfectly closed but if you have
jump ring that won't fall out of it that's kind of a backup. So let's go with a jump ring here
and another one. Oh I didn't close this yet. I've got a pretty good grip on here.
Take your jump ring put it through the last loop of your chain and then through the loop
on the necklace on the clam shell.
Almost there.
And then we need to attach a lobster clasp. I have a small jump ring.
Put it through the, always check your lobster clasp and make sure it's working right.
I'm not sure I like the finish on this one. I'm going to grab another one.
This one looks a little nicer and always make sure they're working before you
attach everything. Let's put this on this side here with a jump ring so that has more flexibility
more movement and then adding a jump ring to the other side and last link to connect into.
There we go. Look how quick and easy that was. Let's make a quick pair of earrings to go with it.
I have two pierced ear wires, two hooks, two inch head pins. Oh I do have a charm here. I thought
if I wanted to add some extension and put a little flower on the end.
Let's just go ahead and do that. Let's add a little extension chain
to that jump ring. How much do we want to add? I'm going to go real long. I think in this case
I'm just going to go about an inch and a half. Let's find the loop that you want to open
to remove the chain that you don't want to use. I can add the charm to the last link or I can use a
small jump ring. Let me show you what I did. I picked up this tea light holder. That's all it is
a tea light holder and I have it to the side of my work area here so that I could put some random
jump rings in here. You know how it is they kind of accumulate when you're working. I'm trying to
keep my area tidy so let's see here. What size jump ring I need if I have one in here. I think
I can use this one. There's a little tip for you. Let's add the charm to the last link of the
extension chain. I said I was going for 18. I've actually made it 16. What was I thinking? Oh my
gosh. I don't know what I was thinking. I wasn't thinking. I can fix that. Not sure what I was
thinking there but you know I can add more chain. I did want it to be 18 inches and I do have some
chain left so I'm going to come back after the video. I'm going to come back and add some more
chain. I really did want that to be 18 inches. I'm not sure what when or why I messed up but you know
it's okay. It's an easy fix. Easy easy fix. Let's finish with the earrings. I've got two
two inch head pins. I am going to grab a couple of small round beads for the bottom.
These beautiful glass beads with the swirl with blue and aqua. They're gorgeous
and we could add a sand colored bead on top or we can just go with this. I could add anything on top
but I think I'm going to keep these very simple and just add one more bead on top. Very very simple.
By going so simple it makes the entire focus on this beautiful bead. I'm just going to bend this
at a right angle. This is where we need our round nose pliers. Trim it down to about three eight
seven inch. This wire is going to be flush with my round nose pliers. I like to roll it backwards
and then roll it closed. Same thing here. Push the beads down. Bend this. Trim it back to
three eighths. Put it in the same location. Roll it backwards. Close it up. Maybe you
like to roll forwards. You know it's a matter of how we learn how to do it
and I learned a very long time ago. Open up the loop on the ear wire. Attach the little crystal.
We open sideways of course. We have pretty little earrings to go with our to go with our
necklace that's ready for the beach or ready for the lake or ready ready for a day out in the sun.
And as I said I'll go back and add in a little more chain. I'm not going to show that on camera
and make this the full 18 inches that I wanted it to be plus the little extension. Of course I have
the silicone earring backs here and you can find some of these supplies below the video. Not my
beads because you know I'm not a bead store but you can find ear wires and silicone earring backs
in my tools and things like that below the video where it says more. I hope you enjoyed this video
and I hope it inspires you to make your own necklace in whatever colors that you'd like.
