US President Donald Trump has again
warned of military strikes on drug
manufacturing bases and other targets in
Venezuela.
The Trump administration has attacked
several boats it alleges were carrying
drugs in waters off the Venezuelan coast
since September, claiming that smuggling
large quantities amounts to an act of
terrorism. Trump told reporters, "Very
soon, we're going to start doing it on
land, too, because we know every route.
[music] We know every house." He added
that the US knows where the drugs are
manufactured.
US Treasury Department announced it is
sanctioning individuals and groups that
support a Venezuelan drug cartel. The US
State Department is offering up to $5
million for information that could lead
to the arrest of the leader of the
organization.
With over 15,000 US military personnel
stationed, the buildup is the largest in
the region in decades.
Since September, the US strikes have
killed at least 83 people without
providing proof they were drug
traffickers.
Rights groups say the strikes are
illegal regardless of whether the
targets were criminals or not.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration has
said the strikes are lawful because the
president has determined that the US is
in an official armed conflict with drug
cartels. Perceiving the threat of
arbitrary violence, the Venezuelan
leader has also increased the role of
Cuban bodyguards in his personal
security detail and employed more Cuban
counter intelligence officers in the
country's military, the report said,
citing multiple people close to the
Venezuelan government.
Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro is
adopting strict security protocols,
including regularly changing his
sleeping locations and cell phones out
of fear of being directly targeted. The
New York Times reported Maduro, who has
been a vocal critic of the US naval
buildup in in the Caribbean, is
reportedly taking extensive measures to
protect himself from a potential
precision strike or a special forces
raid.
The US has amassed warships and struck
boats that it claimed were smuggling
drugs from Venezuela as part of
President Donald Trump's efforts to
reduce the inflow of narcotics from
Latin America. Strikes near Venezuelan
waters aimed at drug traffickers,
sanctions, and a $50 million bounty have
so far been unsuccessful in forcing
Maduro, whom the US has designated as a
leader of the Trenda Arawa drug cartel,
to step down from power. After repeated
threats, adversaries may now view a lack
of direct military action as a sign of
weakness from the US. But Maduro is in
an equally difficult position. His own
military capabilities are dwarfed in
comparison to Trump's. And experts say
China and Russia lack the will to
directly challenge the US in its own
hemisphere.
Meanwhile, the clock is ticking. Trump's
unprecedented military buildup in the
Caribbean, including sending the world's
largest aircraft carrier to the region,
is taking away resources from other
theaters.
US President Donald Trump says his
advisers believe Vladimir Putin wants to
end the war in Ukraine. He would like to
end the war. That was their impression,
Trump said of special envoy Steve
Wickoff and adviser Jared Kushner. Their
impression was very strongly that he'd
like to make a deal. According to
Associated Press, Trump's comments came
a day after Witkoff and Kushner, who is
also the president's son-in-law, met for
more than 5 hours with Putin in Moscow
for talks aimed at ending the Russia
Ukraine war.
Witkov and Kushner are set to meet with
Ukraine's lead negotiator Rustam
Yumarrov on Thursday in Miami for
further Russia Ukraine peace talks
according to a senior Trump
administration official who was not
authorized to comment publicly and spoke
on the condition of anonymity.
Zalinsky hinted at the possibility of
further talks with US officials during
his nightly address on Wednesday. a lot
of money nowadays, but uh they represent
people that really don't like our
country much and I know some of them and
they're scum. In my opinion, they're
scum.
>> On Ukraine, um Steve Wickoff and Jared
Kushner were there last night with
Vladimir Putin. Can you give us an
update about those talks? It sounds from
what the Kremlin is saying that they're
not going to compromise. Can you tell us
what you've
>> I don't know what the Kremlin's doing.
>> Can you give us an update about those
talks? It sounds from what the Kremlin
is saying they're they're not going to
compromise. Can you tell us what you've
>> I don't know what the Kremlin's doing. I
can tell you that they had a reasonably
good meeting with President Putin. We're
going to find out. Uh it's a war that
should have never been started. It's a
war. If I were president, we had a
rigged election. If I were president,
that war would have never happened. It's
a terrible thing. But I thought they had
a very good meeting yesterday with
President Putin. We'll see what happens.
It's uh you know, when I was in this
office and I talked about no cards, I
said, "You have no cards?" That was the
time to settle. I thought that would
have been a much better time to settle,
but they in their wisdom decided not to
do that. They have a lot of things
against them right now. But uh you have
President Putin had a very good meeting
yesterday with Jared Kushner and with
Steve Woodco. Uh what comes out of that
meeting, I can't tell you because it
does take two to tango. You know,
Ukraine uh I think we have something
pretty well worked out with them.
They're very satisfied considering. But
the sad part is if I were president, no
war would have ever happened. They would
have had 100% of their territory.
Nothing would have happened. It's a it's
a very sad situation.
>> When you spoke with uh Mr. Witco and
with Mr. Kushner last night
>> last night, did they give you the sense
that President Putin still wants to end
the war, still wants to make peace?
>> He would like to end the war. That's
what they That was their impression.
>> Putin still wants to end the war. Still
wants to make peace.
>> He would like to end the war. That's
what they That was their impression. Now
whether or not you know
>> uh that was their appre you know their
impression was that they'd like to he
would like to see the war ended. I think
he'd like to get back to dealing a more
normal life. I think he'd like to be
trading with the United States of
America frankly instead of you know
losing thousands of soldiers a week. Uh
but their impression was very strongly
that they'd like to make a deal. We'll
see what happens.
>> I can tell you that they had a
reasonably good meeting with President
Putin. We're going to find out. Uh, it's
a war that should have never been
started. It's a war. If I were
president, we had a rigged election. If
I were president, that war would have
never happened. It's a terrible thing.
But I thought they had a very good
meeting yesterday with
>> the German air force has deployed
fighter jets to Poland to strengthen
NATO's eastern flank. According to
reports by German news agency DPA,
according to Associated Press, several
Euro fighters took off from Norvich air
base and headed for the Polish military
airfield in Malbour. According to the
German Air Force, the deployment is a
response to recent reports of airspace
violations by Russian fighter jets in
the Baltic Sea region and the entry of
drones into NATO territory.
German Defense Minister Boris Ptorius
had already announced the move in
mid-occtober.
The German armed force is also sending a
contingent of around 150 men and women
with the aircrafts, including pilots,
technicians, logisticians, security
guards, and military police. The
deployment is initially planned to last
until March. According to DPA,
