Today we will see if sprinting on foot or skating is faster.
And I know it's obviously faster for the first few steps on foot.
But what distance will skating surpass sprinting?
We're going to do 20 meters, 40, 60, and then 80.
I want you guys to guess which one you think the skating will surpass the sprinting.
So to test this we have an Olympic track athlete
and a professional speed skater that will race each other separately.
First we have 20 meters and I measured it with my feet so it won't be exact.
But it'll be the same distance for when I'm skating versus running.
So it doesn't really matter.
Just so you guys know my guess was 60 meters for when I think skating will start to be faster.
But let's see for the 20 meters on foot was 3.02 seconds.
And then the skates were 3.46.
So still pretty close.
I thought they'd be further away because it's so easy to accelerate on foot.
And I'm not that great on the skates at doing the speed skating start.
Which I know this is this is a good method but it's a little harder.
So I chose this one which I see a lot of the pros still do.
I don't know which one's more popular but this one's a lot easier.
But anyways let's do the 40 meters.
Should be a close one but let's go.
And for 40 meters on foot 4.66 seconds and then the skates were 4.18.
So skates are already faster.
I'm surprised by that.
I thought that I was worried originally that I wouldn't even surpass it within the 80 meters.
But 40 meters already fast.
And watching the playback I accelerate almost just as fast on the skates now.
But it definitely was not always like that.
It took a long time because I sprint a lot.
I do a lot of slides so it's like I'll slide and then instantly go back into sprint.
So that definitely helped.
But if you try this out yourself it probably would not cross over this quickly.
Just like if a speed skater tried this out they might even break their 20 meter time.
Unlike me.
But anyways let's go to 60 meters.
We'll see just how vast the difference is.
Huh?
No that's a YouTube video.
It's like a skating video but like I'm dressed up for this portion.
It's complicated but yeah yeah.
Solid skates.
Just got monetized.
Yeah.
Okay for 60 meters on foot it was 7.21 seconds and then for the skates 6.97.
And I'll do some calculations to see what percent is faster.
I'll put it over here or something.
But the ending was horrible.
I mean I picked just a bad spot.
It's straight into bark chips.
But anyways let's do the last one 80 meters just because I guess I already did it.
So whatever we'll show it.
Here's the aftermath of skating.
Super fast and then having to stop really quick and I ran into the dirt.
My hands have some scratches on them but I was fine.
On foot was 8.54 seconds and then skating 8.09.
So yeah let me know if you guys were right or wrong.
I assume you guys were mostly wrong though.
And let me know if there's any other videos like this you want me to make because
I'm trying out some new stuff here.
I know I changed my clothes which is kind of goofy but whatever.
I figured it'd add a little more change in the the camera look.
So giving it a try but thanks for watching.
