Our next skater represents Ireland, Juliana Farrell.
An 18-year-old Juliana has some impressive jumping content. She struggled in the short
program to deliver, hoping to showcase the triple lutz quality that we've seen from her
in practice in this breeze game.
Ireland's Juliana Farrell completes her breeze game showcasing some very solid jumping.
Oh my gosh, she's got great jump technique. She, you know, lost it a little bit midway
through the program, but the first few jumping passes, the technique and the strength and
the timing on the takeoff, the air position, the landing was just beautiful.
Just, you know, with jump technique like that, she should be in a much higher
group. Yeah, and it just interests me because she didn't use the triple lutz,
which she's capable of using that she used in the short program. But I hasten to guess,
as we look at this big driving high double axel, I could see a triple out of that at some point.
Let's take a look here at the Salchow lifts up Freelake way up. Look at the size of that jump.
It's just huge. Soft knees on the landing. There's the triple loop as well. Squeaks that Freelake
back in time. But then a little bit later, had some problems. Here's the triple toe loop.
Swung that Freelake with the pick around the corner a little bit too much
and got off kilter in the air and took the fall.
Begs the question, I just look back at Juliana's past performances and, you know, she competed at
various different events domestically in the United States of America and she's often scored
80 point free skate scores. But she's capable with the jump quality that she has to be, I think,
pushing 90 scores. Oh, totally. Just wonder how many run throughs, you know, need to happen and
how she balances and juggles that as she pushes forward to continue to represent Ireland as
successfully as she can. And can she do double run throughs? Can she? I don't know. With her
academics, with life, can she get into the next six days a week and do double run throughs every
day? Because that, you know, would easily help a skater with the quality of education she's had.
Can you do double run throughs? Well, it's interesting because we're having a study
recently which suggests that double run throughs... It's just a yes or no question.
I did have to do them. Right now, I don't think I could last 40 seconds.
So did I. I thought, okay, I will die here at the Christian Club with this double run through,
but that's okay. It's an honor. And then I said, oh, geez, I did it.
But we were hearing recently that the stats for double run throughs don't necessarily pay off.
Yeah, that's what we heard. But, you know, you hear lots of stuff. 68.98. That's first
in the free program for Julianna Farrow from Ireland. The total competition score of...
There it is. 103.97. That puts Julianna currently in the first place.
Strong, technical skater. No question. Keep going. You're on the right
pathway for the technical part of the sport. No question.
