If you're not feeling motivated right now, then this video is for you.
And I want to start with a truth that most people completely overlook.
Motivation isn't what gets you started, it's what shows up after you begin.
It doesn't come before action, it comes because of it.
We grow up believing motivation is the spark when it's not.
It's the result of doing the thing, even when you didn't feel like it.
You think you need to feel like it to start?
But the truth is, starting is what creates the feeling.
Think about it for a second.
Have you ever regretted going for a run, writing that chapter,
or waking up early to use those quiet hours productively?
The regret isn't in the doing, it's in the not doing.
The waiting, the stalling, and the hope that you'll feel different tomorrow.
We resist action, but we rarely regret it.
In fact, the only real regret is not starting.
Motivation is not a requirement, it's a reward.
So instead of asking yourself, how do I get motivated?
Ask, what's the smallest thing I can do to start moving?
Because motion is the matchstick, and once you light it, the fire tends to follow.
We mistakenly think that we need to be in the right headspace,
or wait for the perfect moment to do meaningful work.
That magical window of opportunity where we're inspired and hyper-focused.
But life rarely hands us those conditions.
And if it does, they're often short-lived.
Truth is, the perfect mood is unreliable.
If you wait for it, you'll wait forever.
If you only act when you feel like it,
your progress becomes hostage to your emotional weather.
You don't need to feel like showing up all the time,
you just need a system that makes showing up easier.
So instead of waiting for inspiration,
reduce friction, design routines, and make starting as easy as possible.
Here's what I've learned.
You don't need to feel great to begin, but you'll feel better because you began.
And that's where real progress comes from.
A lot of the time when we say I'm not motivated,
what we actually mean is I'm tired, I'm emotionally exhausted,
or I'm overwhelmed and don't know where to start.
A lack of motivation is often something deeper.
And instead of giving ourselves compassion, we label ourselves lazy.
And that only makes things worse.
What you need might not be more willpower,
it might be more kindness by speaking to yourself
in the same way you would to someone you care about.
You can't control how you feel,
but you can always control what you do next,
because in your response lies your greatest power.
And the beautiful thing?
Action often shifts how you feel.
Here's a principle that keeps me going, especially on the hard days.
Don't try to win the day, just win the moment.
There was a day when I sat in front of my desk for hours, just staring.
Zero energy and zero spark.
And the thought of doing anything felt impossible.
So I made a deal with myself.
Open the doc, type one sentence, and then you can stop.
One sentence turned into three.
Three turned into a paragraph, and by the end of the hour,
I'd written a full page without even realizing it.
That's the power of a micro-win.
We think we need to crush the day, but often we just need to win the moment.
And when you do, something powerful happens in your brain.
You shift your identity, you tell your brain I'm someone who shows up,
and you shift the belief from I'm stuck to I'm an action taker.
And over time, that belief becomes who you are.
In a study on motivation, researchers gave people loyalty cards for a free car wash.
One group got a card with eight empty slots.
The other got 10 slots, but two were already stamped.
Guess which group was more motivated?
The second one, because progress had already begun.
So if you're stuck, stop thinking about the finish line.
Start small, because the brain doesn't need a perfect plan.
It just needs momentum.
And this is where the five-minute rule comes into play.
Pick the one thing you've been avoiding.
Set a timer for five minutes, and then just start.
That's it.
No pressure to finish or to excel.
Just five minutes of taking action on something important.
And here's why this works so well.
The biggest resistance is always at the beginning.
But once you start, everything kicks into gear.
That one action creates motivation, and motivation fuels another action.
And action keeps fueling itself.
You enter a powerful loop.
Action, motivation, and then more action.
You just have to get it into motion with one small step.
Because it's not about doing everything.
It's about doing something.
You see, when you feel stuck, you don't always need a roadmap.
You need a first step.
And it doesn't have to be a dramatic or perfect one.
Maybe it's sending that one email you've been avoiding.
Maybe it's writing one sentence in your journal.
Or maybe it's simply stepping outside with your running shoes on.
You don't need to overhaul your entire life in one day.
You just need to create a small shift.
The shift doesn't come from overthinking and planning.
It comes when you begin and take that first step.
If you're still watching, I want to say this.
This video almost didn't get made.
Why?
Because I thought, hasn't this message already been shared before?
But then I realized that someone out there probably needs to hear this today.
And maybe that someone is you.
And maybe this is your turning point.
So before you click away, take one small step today.
Not because you feel ready, but because you finally decided to stop waiting.
You don't need a perfect morning routine.
You don't need 70 new productivity hacks.
You need one moment of courage in following through with one small step.
Towards what you told yourself you were going to do.
That's how momentum begins.
And once it does, motivation will chase you.
If you want to change your life, you must stop waiting for motivation.
And start moving whether it's there or not.
You must take responsibility because that's when life truly begins.
And one day when you look back, you won't remember what you failed at.
You'll remember whether or not you had the courage to act.
Because the only thing riskier than going for it is never going for it at all.
If this resonated with you, then you'll also enjoy this video here.
I look forward to connecting with you in the comments below.
And until next time, keep going and stay focused.
Because you are far stronger than you realize.
