Hi guys, it's James from Tender here and I'm going to do a how we made video for our track
Gravity Infinity and yeah it's a before we start I guess it's I'll tell you about the song it's a
song about um a love that is bigger than ourselves um that feels like it's bigger than the universe
and sort of the pressures that come with that to make it work you know so yeah um let's dive
into the track shall we I'll play you a little bit before we start digging in okay
there you go so let's start with the drums shall we um these drums um it started out with these
program drums so you know samples different things like that um I'll play you some
one of the sound analog you know organic if you will um and before we so we did the samples and
then we went on to go record live drums after the fact you know when we felt like we wanted
to add some human elements to it and the feel before that we had this these sounds and um
these were mainly built off of this drum playing called tempo which is made by
teletone audio which these guys do some really really cool stuff that you'll see as I do more
of these videos you'll see that I've basically gone to town on their plugins and really like
what they do well this drum sound was just really tight and really nice and really fit
the sort of vibe we were going for and then when we went to record um real drums it was
kind of referenced to these and we we sort of blend them together but this was really sort of
the inspiration for that sound um so yeah thanks guys teletone audio amazing stuff so yeah we did
the sample drums similar sort of thing goes into the verse but um it's a pretty simple beat
throughout um out the track and then like I said here is the live drums that we went to record
um our drummer josh kimber who plays with us live and has since the very beginning
uh came down and had a go at playing his songs and he's he's so good um playing you know hardly
any time to learn them and get some great takes so the sample kit punchy sound um let me show you
um which has some shakers and some bongos things like that um just felt really nice paired with the
the drums just added some real pace and cool so there you go that's the drums really
pretty standard doesn't move doesn't change too much um there's some fills towards the end I think
yeah
that let's check out the bass guitar which is this guy
just a logic bass um amp with got some wolf compressor on there
dbx compression cremate there was some chorus but it's no longer any chorus um pretty standard
tender sound that we use for a lot of things this just this logic bass amp really does um
and uh little hoffner uh bass guitar and there you go that's the bass simple stuff that's uh
there's no there's no there's any sub bass on this there's normally sometimes we lay it with
like synth bass i'm sure you'll see on some other how we made tracks um before we get into
the keys let's look at the guitars because this song kind of started with um came about with guitar
because i've got a a new acoustic little acoustic guitar thing actually just this little guy
um got that before this sort of new record i guess if you will and just went to town and
used it on everything um so the song actually starts with um just acoustic parts which have
um some crema
like you know uh wobbly c6 that sort of sound um and that goes throughout the whole song
when you listen to it it's great
what else we got going on for the guitars
the main riff
again logic amps with um some chorus and got some rc20 which is another great plugin for making it
sort of detuned and old sounding um this brigade chorus i've used a lot uh on a lot of these sounds
just really like the sound of it it's you know could have used the logic chorus could have used
any sort of chorus really it just does the trick but i just really like that one um
just bring me a bit of heavy guitar chords there
okay yeah that's kind of it
crunchier version of the lyric there which is yeah other than that there's this mid late section
it's the studer uid studer thing and just using the there's a preset on there called extreme
saturation which um it really just breaks things up and adds a lot of character to it
and i just really like it used it quite a lot on this um new record but yeah i think that's it for
um
again this is another teletone audio um plugin long dean i think it's pronounced
it's a cool little synth that has a lot of character to it really i think it's just a
preset i'm slightly adapted and that goes through out the song that little arpeggio here and there's
pad sort of ambience which is nice which is the brass i say profit um leave this
towel um soft synth which i use a lot i really like it's a juno emulator um does other junior
emulators out there but this one's pretty cheap and i've been using it for years now just really
like it a friend of ours who produced our second record uh luca put me onto this and
i've never looked back really love it um what else do we have
yeah it's simple stuff really this song was really leaning into the guitars and that sort of
band feel um more so than previously our songs have been sort of very led by the synth and like
the key parts i like the backbone and that really isn't the case here they're more of a sort of
embellishment and so the ear candy um which is cool it's a nice way to sort of revert back to
that you know rather than sort of leaning on it so much it's it's these little sprinkles here and
and that brings us on to actually the
next little folder i've got on here which is like the effects extras and stuff which is
again more of the sample the candy stuff
this is an intro reverse stuff some ambience that sacks like filtered
prizes things like that that it if it wasn't there
it'd probably be okay but it's just that it really takes it to that next level i think
okay so we re-recorded the main vocal but everything else is just demo vocals as i wrote
the song um recorded in here on my mic up there which is just an aston spirit which is a great
little mic um but yeah these main vocals were re-recorded on a nice vintage um neumann 87
um yeah not much not a whole lot going on on these channels we've got some pitch correction which
you know i need a little bit just to glue it together uh ssl channel strip um either use
the waves one or the uad one they're both pretty good um use that a lot cla76 bit compression
there's a little bit of sibilance just to take out some of that
noise on the vocal bus there's a pull tech eq but um and on the main vocal there's a
another 76 and a la2a bit of compression there but nathan body who would have um who mixed these
songs probably would have added his own um stuff to these especially to the vocals i'm not sure
how much of the stuff he used from our mix but i mean overall it sounds pretty similar it's just
you know he took it to that next level and i'm sure he used his own tricks of the trade um but
yeah other than that main vocal we've got it's just about the layering really i've got the
the main three left right and center there i've got some of the original demo ones which
um are just a bit cruncher they've got decapitator on there i'll show you what they sound like
edge on there
so yeah you can hear this is a bit of crunch to that um and then we have a falsetto
four layers of falsetto now
i love how this makes me sound but
yeah a bit pitchy but it's layers and when it's all glued together it sounds
it sounds cool um in the verses again more layers we've got a low
with the main
with some backing vocals
yeah um all going through the similar sort of stuff um some compression some eq overall there's
probably so there's a little bit of um this i like to use their sound toys uh vocal color chain
little preset just on a bus just a little bit just add some texture some character to the
to the recording um i don't think there's really any effects in terms of reverbs and delays on this
um on my vocal anyway so yeah that's my vocal and then moving to the wonderful marion reynolds
who did some vocals on our last record and made it sound so great it made me sound really good
um that i asked her back to do some stuff on this new record and she crushed it as usual so
easy to record she's got such a wonderful voice such a nice tone to her voice um so yeah let me
play you some
one day i will give you my heart be a part of me baby gravity couldn't pull us apart
love me like infinity yeah there you go sounds wonderful just on its own
i'll show you i'll show you with my vocal
so yeah lovely stuff it's just um very simple with her
very easy to do i've got a bit of again channel strip a compressor
uh i'm using a bit of soothe which is again getting rid of some of that it's like a dsa on
on there got two mains left and right and then i've got four layers of um
falsetto some a bit more up front and a little with a bit more air and a bit more bit softer
um again just layering things up and building building the vocal and all glues together
um she's also doing some of the the backing vocals of ours and ooze and things but
other than that there's not a whole lot of effects on her vocal
we have on the falsetto there's a little bit of this
oh a galaxy take echo which has a bit of a verb on it um but yeah it's it's it's very simple i mean
this song felt like it came together the sounds all just sort of worked really nicely together
and it didn't feel like a battle it was it was sort of just a really nice thing to make
yeah that's it really so i'll let me just play the play you the outro with all the parts together
okay then there you have it guys um i hope you like this
thank you very much for watching cheers
