Phase one, I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought.
It's hard work but it's fun.
And it does change you as a person and puts you into that mindset of being a soldier.
As a sexual commander I look to develop the recruits mentally and physically in 14 weeks
from civilian to when they pass out and they walk, talk and act like soldiers.
We do field craft, going on exercise, learning how to operate and fire a weapon,
maths and English, physical development, circuit training.
We also do a soldier development week doing adventurous training.
The instructors are really, really good.
They're here to support you through phase one training.
They have years of experience.
They're really professional as well.
If you've got an issue they'll go and sort it out straight away.
I think fitness is a massive key.
If you turn up fit, phase one training will be a lot easier.
The best advice I could give is get out running before you come here.
Learn how to iron definitely.
A lot of recruits turn up and they don't know how to iron.
Because that will help you when you come to doing your lockers, when you have your inspections.
Get yourself into a mindset of getting into a routine and day-to-day life.
Also give 110 percent.
Always work your hardest.
Just embrace everything that happens.
If you turn up with the right attitude as well it will stand you in better stead.
Build up that self-discipline within yourself and you'll fly through it.
