Hello guys, welcome to another video from Juno to Ismail Afghanistan.
Today we want to explore Shah-e-Dushamshirat, meaning the king with two swords, resting place
and this very beautiful mosque that is in front of it. This resting place is located at Asma-e Avenue
at the edge of Kabul river and right before it there is a fabulous mosque by the very same name.
This is only one of the many historical places of Kabul.
Here are a few stories regarding this site which are in contrast to each other.
Regarding the very first story, as it's obvious by the name, this is the resting place of a king
who used to fight and hold swords in each of his hands. Based on the stone tablets in the resting
place, it is the burial site of Lais son of Qais son of Abbas who was the paternal uncle of the
prophet Muhammad. At the year of 661, Kabul walls were penetrated and the Muslim Mujahideen entered
the city. Even though the head of Lais was cut off, his body kept on swinging the swords until
his body fell on the ground. And finally, when the Muslims became victorious, made a resting place
for their commander and after a while they built a mosque in front of the resting place to say
their prayers and they named the mosque after him, Shah-e-Dushamshirat, meaning that he who fought
with two swords. Many years later, Abdul Rahman son of Muhammad son of Al-Ash'as, another Muslim
commander was also buried at this site. According to the second story, some local historians say
that it was common during the Muslim conquests to destroy the previous holy sites and build
mosques at their place. And so the idol of Ismail was destroyed and replaced by a mosque.
There is a third story regarding this site. According to historian Muhammad Azzam Sistani,
this is not the resting place of Lais son of Qais. Rather, there is a high chance that
it is the resting place of Shah Zambil. And in order to protect their king's
resting place, the people made fake Islamic background for this site. And if it's true,
so far their track has worked out. Finally, based on Wikipedia, this mosque is exactly in front of
the resting place of one of the generals of the Mongol Empire, Chain Timur Khan,
paternal cousin of Babur Shah, who successfully invaded and annexed Central Asia. Chain Timur
played a significant role and assisted his cousin Babur to vanquish most of India. He is famous for
Not far from here, there is the resting place of Babur Shah and other Muslim commanders
who invaded India through Afghanistan, spreading establishing Islamic governance.
This mosque is the very first one that was built in Kabul, and so is the oldest one as well.
Throughout the centuries, this mosque was damaged or destroyed, was repaired or built again. But the
current structure of it was built at the reign of Amanullah Khan by the order of his mother at
the year of 1920. In total, this mosque is 425 square meters, driven from Italian architecture,
which is not surprising because Shah Amanullah had just returned from his journey to Europe.
Furthermore, it is said that a Turkic engineer also helped in the construction of this mosque.
An interesting point about this mosque is that the pigeons do not pee on the dome of this mosque.
You can find them by different colors, but mostly by darker shades, including blue, green, black,
and a mix of these. They are fed by the visitors who come to visit and buy grain for them,
spreading it on the floor nearby. About the witchcrafting and talisman making,
it was practiced freely at the previous Afghan government, near this resting place and the mosque.
Due to this practice, a young girl named Farhunda was broadly killed by the angry mob because she
confronted one of the talisman makers and he accused her of burning the holy Quran and lost
her life. Now the Taliban are extremely serious against wizarding and witchcrafting and has banned
the practice. Thank you so much guys for watching this far. Please like the video and share it with
