Listen, I have been asked thousands of times about the third eye.
People come to me with such seriousness, such spiritual ambition. They want techniques,
they want methods, they want to achieve enlightenment like it's some kind of university
degree. And I laugh because the third eye is not something you open, it is something that has never
been closed. You are just too busy looking elsewhere to notice it. You see, everybody is
searching, searching, searching, searching. And the more you search, the more you miss it.
Because that which you are seeking, you already are. But the mind cannot accept this. Too simple.
The mind wants complexity. The mind wants to do something, to achieve, to become. So let me tell
you something that will disturb you. This is not another meditation technique to add to your
collection. This will not make you special. In fact, it will destroy everything you think makes
you special. Your spiritual superiority, your knowledge, your identity as a seeker, all of it
will burn. And that, that is the beginning. This is not about chakras as shopping lists,
not about becoming psychic so you can impress your friends, not about reading minds or seeing auras.
If that's what you want, you can leave now. Go buy some crystals. But if you want truth,
if you are ready for truth, even if it shatters every belief you hold, then stay. Because what
I'm going to tell you is dangerous. It will either awaken you or it will disturb your sleep so much
that you cannot rest until you awaken. Ready? Good. Let's begin. The ancient ones,
they were not stupid. They were far more intelligent than your modern scientists
with all their instruments and laboratories. But they had something your scientists have lost
completely, a sense of humor. They said there is an eye in the middle of your forehead.
And what happened? Everybody started searching. People are still searching, touching their
foreheads in meditation, pressing, visualizing, concentrating so hard their faces become tense.
It's hilarious. I tell you, the ancient masters must be laughing from wherever they are. You see,
they were speaking in metaphor, in symbol, in poetry. But you take everything literally.
You have lost the language of mystery. Let me tell you about Shiva. In the Hindu tradition,
Shiva sits in deep meditation with his third eye closed. And they say, when that eye opens,
the world burns. People became afraid. Don't open Shiva's third eye. Everything will be destroyed.
But what does it really mean? It means when you truly SEE, the world of illusions burns,
not the real world, the false world. Your beliefs burn. Your conditioned identity burns.
Your precious suffering, that burns too. And you are so attached to your suffering,
you carry it like a treasure. Look how much I have suffered. Look at my wounds. You display
them like medals. The third eye burns all of that. And you don't want that. You want enlightenment,
yes. But you want to keep your suffering too. You want to keep your story. I am this. I am that.
Now, Buddha, he never talked about the third eye directly. You know why? Because he was very cunning.
The moment you make something a goal, you have missed it. The moment you desire enlightenment,
you have guaranteed your blindness. So Buddha talked about awareness, about witnessing,
about meditation. And when those happen naturally, effortlessly, the third eye opened by itself,
without announcement, without fireworks. What did all these traditions know? The third eye
is not a thing, not an organ you can dissect in a laboratory. It is a state of being.
When the two eyes stop fighting, when the inner and the outer stop being separate,
when the observer and the observed become one, suddenly a third space opens, not physically,
existentially. First eye sees the world outside. Second eye sees thoughts and emotions inside.
Third eye sees that there is no inside, no outside, just seeing. Pure awareness. It is
choiceless awareness. No judgment, no preference, no division. And here's the cosmic joke. You
cannot practice it. You can only stop preventing it. You have been standing in your own way.
Move aside. But the problem is the one who wants to move aside is the obstacle. So what to do?
Nothing. Just watch. Just be. And one day, when you are not expecting it,
when you have given up all hope, it happens. Now your scientists have discovered the pineal gland.
Finally, only a few thousand years late, but better late than never, I suppose.
They found this tiny gland sitting in the center of your brain, shaped like a small pine cone.
And they said, ha, it produces melatonin. It regulates sleep and wake cycles. True,
but incomplete. This gland is your biological antenna to cosmic consciousness.
The ancients called it the seat of the soul. Descartes, that philosopher, also said this.
Even Western thinkers glimpsed it. But here's the problem. In modern humans, this gland is almost
dead, calcified, dormant, asleep. Why? Look at your life. Just look. You live under artificial
lights 24 hours. You have forgotten what real darkness is. You sleep with the lights on.
You carry a glowing screen everywhere. Your pineal gland needs darkness to function,
and you give it constant stimulation. You live in constant noise. Cars honking, music blasting,
news screaming, notifications beeping. Your mind never rests. And when the mind is noisy,
the pineal gland cannot hear the cosmic silence. You fill every gap with distraction. Standing in
line, check your phone. Sitting alone, turn on the television. Walking, put in headphones.
You are terrified of boredom, but boredom is the doorway. Boredom is when the mind starts to settle
and you run from it. Then there are the physical toxins, fluoride in your water, chemicals in your
food, pollution in your air. All of this calcifies the pineal gland. It becomes hard, closed,
insensitive. But listen carefully. The physical toxins are not the real problem.
The psychological toxins are worse. Worry, anxiety, ambition, fear, jealousy,
the constant chattering of the mind. Your mind never stops. Even when you sleep, it continues.
Dreaming, planning, remembering, imagining. The pineal gland is suffocated by this noise.
It needs space, silence, emptiness. But you are afraid of emptiness. You think emptiness means
nothing. No. Emptiness means everything. It is pregnant with infinite possibilities.
But you cannot see this because you keep filling it.
Now scientists talk about DMT, dimethyltryptamine, the spirit molecule.
They say the pineal gland might produce it, release during birth, during death,
during deep meditation. Interesting, yes? But don't become addicted to chemistry.
Don't think, ah, if I take DMT, I will awaken. No. DMT is not the cause of mystical experience.
It is the effect. When you dissolve into deep meditation, when you touch that space of no mind,
the body responds. The pineal gland celebrates. It releases this substance. But you cannot force it
through chemicals. That is like trying to make a flower bloom by pulling its petals open.
You will destroy it. The third eye opens when you disappear, not when you do something special.
When you stop doing, when you stop trying, when you simply are this tiny gland in your brain is
waiting. It has always been waiting, not for you to activate it with some technique,
but for you to get out of the way. Stop the noise. Welcome the silence.
Rest in darkness and let nature do what it has always known how to do.
So now you want to know what really happens when the third eye opens.
Be prepared. It is not what your spiritual books promised you. Those books are written by people
who have read other books, not by people who have experienced. Let me tell you the truth,
raw, unfiltered, asterisk, asterisk, first, you become ordinary, asterisk, asterisk. Yes,
you heard correctly, ordinary. Everyone thinks awakening makes you special, extraordinary,
that you will walk on water, read minds and perform miracles. Nonsense. It makes you profoundly,
beautifully ordinary, like a flower, like a river, like the wind. You stop trying to be spiritual.
You stop wearing spiritual masks. You stop using spiritual words to impress people.
A flower blooms. It doesn't think, I must be spiritual now. A bird sings. It doesn't
collect virtue points. You become natural, simple. And in this mad, complicated society,
to be simple is the most revolutionary thing you can do. Asterisk, asterisk, second,
you lose your story, asterisk, asterisk. This is painful, very painful. The story of who you are,
victim, hero, seeker, wounded one, special soul, it collapses like a house of cards.
You have been living in that story your whole life. It gave you identity. It explained your
suffering. It justified your actions. I am like this because this happened to me. Now,
without the story, who are you? This is terrifying. The personality remains functional,
yes. You still have a name, a body, social roles, but you no longer believe in it.
You wear it lightly, like an actor wears a costume. Inside, you know, I am not this.
Then what are you? Nothing and everything, nobody and everybody. The mind cannot grasp this.
Don't try to understand it. You can only be it. Asterisk, asterisk, third, relationships transform
or they die. Asterisk, asterisk. When your third eye opens, you see people as they are,
not as you wish them to be, not through the filter of your needs and expectations.
You see their fear, their masks, their unconscious patterns, the games they play,
and you can no longer participate in those games. Some people will feel this and become
uncomfortable around you. They will say, you have changed. You are different now. You are distant.
What they really mean is, you are no longer playing my game and I feel exposed. Some
relationships will deepen into real love, authentic, without need, without ownership.
But most relationships, they simply evaporate, not with anger, not with drama,
just they fade because they were based on mutual unconsciousness. And now you are awake
and here's the beautiful part. You stop seeking completion through others. You realize you are
already complete. The search for the one who will make you whole, it ends because you discover
you were always whole. Asterisk, asterisk, fourth. The world becomes transparent. Asterisk,
asterisk. Everything reveals its nature to you. A politician gives a speech. Before,
you might have believed the words. Now you see through them. You see the fear, the ambition,
the manipulation, not with judgment, just with clarity. An advertisement tries to sell you
something. You see immediately they are not selling a product. They are selling a solution
to the insecurity they first created in you. A religious leader preaches, you see,
the ego hiding behind holy words. But also, and this is important, you see the divine everywhere.
A tree standing in silence, you see God expressing himself, a child laughing. You see pure
consciousness, uncontaminated. A stranger smiles at you. You see your own self looking back,
everything becomes a mirror. The world is no longer separate from you. You are I in it,
and it is in you. Asterisk, asterisk. Suffering doesn't disappear, but something
fundamental changes. Asterisk, asterisk. People think enlightenment means no more pain.
Foolish idea. Pain is part of life. The body ages. It gets sick. People you love die. Challenges
come. Disappointments happen. But suffering, the mental drama around pain that loses its grip.
Before, why is this happening to me? What did I do to deserve this? Life is unfair.
After pain happens, you feel it fully. You cry if tears come. You rest if rest is needed.
But there is no story around it. No victim, no resistance. You cry, but there is no me who is
crying. You laugh, but there is no me who is laughing. Life flows through you. You are no
longer standing separate from it, judging it, resisting it. Asterisk, asterisk. Sixth,
the need to convince others disappears. Asterisk, asterisk. Before awakening, there is this urgency.
Everyone must know this. I must share this. I must help people wake up after silence.
Not because you don't care, but because you understand each person's journey is absolutely
perfect as it is. Even their sleep is part of their awakening. You cannot wake someone who
is not ready, and trying to do so is violence. Your job is not to wake others. Your job is to
remain awake. And paradoxically, when you stop trying to change anyone, your very presence
becomes an invitation. People feel something around you. They cannot name it, but they feel
it. Asterisk, asterisk. You become comfortable with not knowing. Asterisk, asterisk. The mind
wants to know everything. It wants certainty, security, answers, and conclusions. The third eye
reveals life is a mystery, an infinite, inexhaustible mystery. You will never figure it
out. And that is the beauty of it. You stop collecting knowledge. You stop quoting scriptures.
You stop trying to sound wise. Instead, you live from a space of wonder, like a child.
Everything is fresh, new, miraculous. Knowledge is borrowed, dead. Wisdom is alive, experienced.
Asterisk, asterisk. The ultimate shift. Asterisk, asterisk. You realize
you were never the seeker. You were always the sought. You were never trying to find God.
God was trying to find himself through you. The third eye doesn't open. The illusion of
separation closes. And what remains? Just this moment. Just this breath. Just this mysterious
existence expressing itself as everything. No past to regret. No future to fear. Just now.
And now is eternal. This is what really happens. Not supernatural powers. Not special abilities.
Just profound, ordinary, infinite presence. And that is enough. More than enough. That is
everything. Now, let me warn you about the traps. Because the path to truth is full of beautiful
traps. And the biggest trap of all is the spiritual ego. Ah, the spiritual ego. It is the most dangerous
thing. More dangerous than an ordinary ego. Why? Because it hides behind holy words. Asterisk,
asterisk. Trap number one. Becoming a spiritual person. Asterisk, asterisk. You start meditating.
Good. Beautiful. Then what happens? You start telling everyone you meditate. You post about it.
You wear spiritual clothes. You use spiritual words. Consciousness. Awareness. Presence.
You drop these words in every conversation. You have simply changed costumes. The ego remains.
Before, it was hiding behind money, success, and beauty. Now, it hides behind spirituality.
I meditate for two hours every day. I only eat organic food. I practice yoga. I am on a higher
vibration. You see? Same game. New mask. The truly awakened person. You cannot tell by looking.
They might be a gardener, a shopkeeper, a grandmother baking bread. No advertisement
needed. No announcement necessary. Asterisk, asterisk. Trap number two. Judging the unawakened.
Asterisk, asterisk. Oh, this is a favorite trap. You have one small glimpse of awareness and suddenly
everyone else is asleep. You look at people with pity. Poor souls. They don't understand.
They are unconscious. You become arrogant about your humility. Proud of your egolessness.
This is a spiritual sickness. I tell you, true awakening brings compassion, not judgment.
You see that others are exactly where they need to be. Their journey is perfect. Even their mistakes
are necessary. Who are you to judge? You were also asleep yesterday. Asterisk, asterisk. Trap
number three. Addiction to experiences. Asterisk, asterisk. You sit in meditation.
Suddenly, light, colors, energy, bliss. A mystical experience. Beautiful. Enjoy it.
But then what do you do? You chase it. You want it again and again. You try different techniques.
Different gurus. Different drugs. Anything to get back to that state. Now you are a spiritual junkie.
No different from an alcoholic. The third eye is not about peak experiences. It is about the
ordinary becoming extraordinary. It is about finding the divine in washing dishes, in breathing,
in walking, in doing absolutely nothing. Asterisk, asterisk. Trap number four.
Using spirituality to avoid life. Asterisk, asterisk. Many people turn to meditation
to escape, to avoid difficult relationships, to avoid responsibilities, to avoid pain.
I am too spiritual for this material world. I need to go to a cave, to an ashram,
to India. This is not awakening. This is spiritual bypassing. Real spirituality doesn't take you
away from life. It takes you deeper into life, more loving, more engaged, more present,
more responsible. You cannot escape life. Life is the only teacher. Asterisk, asterisk. Trap
number five. Waiting for total enlightenment. Asterisk, asterisk. When I am fully enlightened,
then I will be happy. Then I will live. Then I will love. Then I will be free.
And you miss this moment. The only moment that exists, you postpone living, you postpone loving,
you postpone joy. Always waiting for some future moment of total transformation.
But enlightenment is not somewhere in the future. It is hidden in this breath, in this step,
in this heartbeat. Stop waiting. There is nowhere to go, nothing to achieve.
You are already that which you seek. Asterisk, asterisk. Osho's guidance. Asterisk, asterisk.
Be aware of these traps. Not to avoid them. You cannot avoid them by trying.
That becomes another trap. Simply watch. When spiritual pride comes, watch it without condemning
it. Laugh at it. Ah, there is the ego again, wearing a spiritual hat. When judgment arises,
watch it. See the ego trying to survive by feeling superior when you chase experiences.
Watch it. Feel the desire underneath. The third eye is the witness. It watches everything without
condemning anything, without identifying with anything. That is the key. Watch, but don't
identify. You are not your spiritual experiences. You are not your spiritual knowledge. You are not
your spiritual journey. You are the awareness in which all of this appears and disappears.
Rest there, just there. And all traps dissolve by themselves. So now you want the technique.
Of course you do. The mind always wants a method, a map, a guarantee.
Tell me exactly what to do, Osho. Step one, step two, step three.
Then enlightenment. I will tell you the technique, but I warn you, you won't like it.
Asterisk, asterisk. The technique is no technique. Asterisk, asterisk. You understand? The third eye
opens when all techniques are dropped, when all is stopped, when you simply A-R-E,
but you are not ready for that yet. You are too full of doing. So I will give you techniques
not to open the third eye, but to exhaust your addiction to doing. Use them totally, intensely
until they become effortless, and then drop them. Asterisk, asterisk. Practice one. Witness the
watcher, asterisk. Sit silently. Watch your thoughts. You can do this. Yes? Everybody knows
how to think, but now watch the one who is watching the thoughts. Who is the watcher?
Go deeper. Watch that watcher and keep going back. Who is watching the watcher until finally
there is no watcher left? Just watching, pure awareness, no center, no circumference.
Do this for 20 minutes every day, not to achieve anything, just for the sheer joy of it,
for the playfulness. Asterisk, asterisk. Practice the gap between breaths. Asterisk, asterisk.
This is an ancient technique. Simple, powerful. Breathe in, pause. Breathe out,
pause. In those pauses, everything stops. No breath, no thought, no identity, just stillness.
That pause eye is the third eye. That eye is your true nature. Don't make it serious.
Don't strain. Just gently notice the gap. Play with it. Asterisk, asterisk. Practice three.
Bring consciousness to ordinary actions. Asterisk, asterisk. Walk consciously,
not thinking about walking, not thinking about where you're going, just walking.
Feeling each step, eat consciously. Taste every bite. Chew slowly. No phone, no television,
just eating. Talk consciously. Listen completely when someone speaks. Be present.
When you bring consciousness to ordinary actions, the extraordinary reveals itself.
The mundane becomes sacred. Practice four. Sit in darkness. Once a week, sit in complete darkness
for one hour. No candles, no phone, no light at all. Let your eyes rest from constant stimulation.
Let your pineal gland remember its ancient function. In that darkness, something inside
you relaxes. The mind becomes quiet. And in that silence, you might see the real light,
the light that has no source, the light of awareness itself. Practice five. Dance. Celebrate.
Be foolish. This is very important. Don't become serious about spirituality. Seriousness is a
disease. Dance like no one is watching. Sing loudly, even if you cannot sing. Laugh for no reason.
Be silly. Be playful. Be foolish. The third eye loves celebration. It cannot open in a serious,
tense, heavy atmosphere. Laughter is more spiritual than your prayers.
Dancing is more meditative than your sitting postures. The secret. All these practices
are devices to trick your mind. You do them religiously, sincerely, totally, until one day
you realize you are not doing them anymore. They are happening by themselves. The practice has
become effortless, natural, like breathing. And that is the moment, that is when practice
transforms into being. The third eye doesn't open through practice. It opens when practice
becomes so natural that it is no longer practice. When seeking becomes being. When doing becomes
happening. My final instruction. Don't make the third eye a goal. Don't measure your progress.
Don't compare yourself with others. Don't ask, when will it happen? Simply be present, now and
now. And one day, without any announcement, without any fireworks, without any drama,
you will suddenly laugh. Because you will realize it was always open. You were just
too busy searching to notice. So what happens when you live with the third eye functioning
naturally, not occasionally, not only during meditation, but as your constant state? You
become a paradox. You are involved in life, yet detached from outcomes. You care deeply about
people, yet you are not serious. You make plans, yet you live spontaneously. You have preferences,
yet no demands. You love intensely, yet you are not dependent. This drives people crazy. They
cannot figure you out. They cannot put you in a box. Good. You were never meant to be understood.
You were meant to be experienced.
