Arnold Schwarzenegger and his son Patrick took part in a talk after Patrick received the Sun Valley Film Festival's Vision and Rising Star award. The father-son duo joked about watching 'Jingle All The Way' during the holidays.' Patrick shared fond memories of being on set as a kid with his famous dad during his action films.
So, just out of curiosity, when you were growing up, when you were little, like the rest of
us at the holidays, did you watch Jingle All the Way all the time?
I love it.
Yeah, right?
Actually.
Like every Christmas?
Me and my friend, we just flew in from Doha, actually, and on the plane, it had Jingle
All the Way on the screen, and we both looked at each other like, should we watch it?
It's a Christmas day classic.
Maybe you want to tell the audience quickly about how you came to the set after school
and did your homework in the motorhome, and then watched when you did the actions outside
in the studio and all that stuff.
Now he's the moderator.
No, no, no.
It's a great...
That's probably one of the questions I get asked a lot is kind of how, you know, why
did you want to become an actor or how did you get interested in the film space and everything?
And, you know, inherently, it was through, obviously, through you.
And it was my favorite activity growing up was to go to set.
And for him to pick me up from preschool and from kindergarten, it was DK.
He would come in his, the Hummer, you know, as a kid, you'd get to sit in the back.
And he would take me over.
This is when everything was still filming in L.A.
And we would go to Universal Studios.
And he would go in, and he would go into his hair and makeup, the trailer.
And I got to be in his trailer.
And I would do my homework in there, and I would eat, and, you know, eat some food.
And then I would get to kind of go on to set and watch how he came out as, you know, Mr. Freeze
or as these different characters in Terminator 3, I remember.
And it was such a fascinating experience of going to your dad, with your dad to work,
but watching the work happen, of watching him go in as, you know, his dad,
and then coming out of the trailer as a different character.
And to actually go on to these sets, even today when I go on set,
it's just, for me, it's kind of like the happy place of getting to actually see
how everything works behind the scenes.
But it was just like, it was kind of like a kid in a candy store.
It was like this dream world that you got to see everything.
And it just made me super intrigued with it.
And then also he would take me on the golf cart.
And we would go from his set to the Jaws ride, and then over to the E.T. ride.
The earthquake ride, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, all those different things.
And he could do it with, and then we would go up to the big,
my favorite was, at the end of the day, the big trailer.
And at the little ramp, we'd walk up, and that was where craft services was.
And it had all the different candies, and all the different food in there,
and stuff like that.
But, yeah, that's what I, I mean, that was, for me,
growing up going to work with dad was like that.
So that's kind of how I fell in love with that side of the industry.
