Donna.
Not a single day during his one-year tour in Afghanistan
did Veteran Army Specialist Tyler Roberts ever feel alone.
We were there for a year together, spent 24 hours a day together.
My little buddy right here.
Six-year-old Donna.
She was Corporal Donna and I was Specialist.
Never left his side.
She was my boss.
Donna is a tactical explosive detection dog.
That was our main threat was IEDs.
At nine months old, Tyler began training her for a very special purpose,
to sniff out bombs and other explosives.
I love dogs, I love all animals,
so I figured what way better to serve my country overseas
than help people out and have a dog with me to help me out.
In 2010, Donna was deployed alongside Tyler
with the 101st Airborne to southern Afghanistan.
But when they returned home one year later, Tyler had to give her up.
Before we could even see our families,
we had to unfortunately give the dogs back to the kennel
so they could be retrained and sent out with whoever needed them next.
But in Donna's case, she was abandoned.
Well, I got out in 2013,
and since then we've been trying to find her, trying to get a hold of her.
Then two weeks ago, he got a call from Kristen Maurer
with Mission K-9 Rescue in Houston.
It never gets old, and it becomes a little addictive.
You want to get them all back with their handlers.
She helped track down Tyler,
and with Donna in tow, made the 1,000-mile trip.
I'm one of the lucky ones.
For a very special reunion.
That bond's very strong, and to have her back,
she's going to get the life she deserves now.
