There was a moment when Spain no
longer spoke about its achievements
Only what others said about it was heard And that was no coincidence
It was a very well orchestrated plan
It was called The Black Legend
A story written beyond our borders
To justify wars rebellions and conquests
Everything began in the 16th century
Spain dominated half the world
America Flanders Italy
And that was annoying
A lot
So the stories began
Drawings showing bonfires with hundreds of people
Stories that exaggerated everything
Stories written by political enemies
And accepted as truth for centuries
Who started it all
A Spanish friar
Bartolomé de las Casas
He wanted to defend the indigenous people
But his writings were used by Spain's enemies
To portray her as
a monster England
Holland France
Everyone copied
her speech They
translated it
They multiplied
it They modified it
And they used it as ammunition
A pamphlet could cross half of
Europe and do more damage than
an entire fleet What was the result
An imagination that still survives
today That Spain was brutal That the
Inquisition was a baptism of fire That
in America there was only destruction
But the real story is different The Spanish
Inquisition had fewer victims than the English
or the Protestant ones in Germany
It was one of the few empires that legislated in defense of
indigenous people since the 16th
century It had laws that on paper
They protected more than in other European empires
Were there excesses
Of course
But not more than in the rest of the powers
And certainly not as they painted it
Why isn't there talk about the English massacres in Ireland
Or the French in Algeria
Or the Belgians in the Congo
Because that did not create a legend
Only silence
Spain was the only power
judged by its enemies with a
magnifying glass And with fire
And the worst was not the lie
It was that the very Spain believed the legend
Even today we continue to repeat those stories
as if they were an absolute truth
But we are no longer in the 16th century
It is time to look at history with open eyes
The black legend is not memory
It is propaganda
Empty marketing fueled by rusted envy
And you decide whether to keep believing or to wake up
