A Mechanical Hybrid for Elk -- Replacing Blades

Welcome to the channel. We're doing elk stuff. Today I want to shoot my elk arrows. One thing I
noticed that could probably help you guys out is just yesterday my rangefinder battery started
dying. I was like oh dang this is a good time of year to swap out. So this little guy could cost
you a shot opportunity. So I just put a brand new battery in. Depending on your rangefinder model
this is a CR123A and I keep one in here, one in my truck, and I have several extras. Never going
to run out but swap those out. It's that time of year especially if your practice goes up in the
summer which I hope it does. Broadhead choices. I think you guys already know we got the ironwill
single bevel standard. So 125 and we're going to shoot these today. Total arrow weight 460.
These are the hide glue-ins with the evolution outdoors collar. Weighs the same. These are brand
new and have not been shot. I need to shoot them to confirm that everything is dialed before I go
elk hunting. But when you shoot these you should probably replace the blades. I'll show you how to
do that at the end of this video if you are running hides and let's just do a quick comparison and see
how they fly. Plus it's a good excuse to just shoot that dead nuts 2d elk target for a realistic
perfect practice. So we're gonna go shoot some arrows. The wind is down right now and then we'll
show you how to replace some blades. Make sure you switch out that rangefinder battery. Let's go.
And that looks like a real elk. All right that was the evolution hide. This is single bevel
standard. All right I'm pretty happy. I'm just kind of going up the leg. You still got room
in here and you're not going to hit the scap or the humerus and you're going to get a lot of
lungs. And there's a lot of lungs in here too. This is a very realistic target. These lungs
slope back. These standard single bevels are typically pretty tough to get out of targets.
Yeah okay nice. All right let's back up. Let's get back up to 70 yards and shoot this realistic 2d
with this versus this. I am going to tighten this top guy right quick. Just give it a little tug
just so that these stay in. And then I want to dull this up so I can replace it for you guys.
All right we backed up quite a ways. Here we go. That's better. That single bevel seems to be flying
good. Let's go check it out. I don't know how this elk's butt got up like that but let's bring it
so you can see we're in the vital v evolution hide evolution hide single bevel single bevel
i'm trying to get this rod head out there we go okay worth its weight in gold for perfect
practice plus it comes with quiver if you download the app double check vitals
augmented reality it's pretty cool all right i'm pretty pumped on the broadheads i have in
my quiver for elk uh with the iron wheel single bevels i'm just gonna put a brand new one on and
with the hides i'm gonna replace the blades real quick show you how to do that and before you know
it'll be elk season just dump some parts out you can get your blade replacements we have them on
the website i'll try to link in the video or something but we shot both these through targets
they're probably still sharp but in the spirit of having virgin blades go through an elk basically
take this guy or loosen this guy up this holds your blades in so take this blade out now this
is your cut on contact thing is still cutting hair in the spirit of showing you how to do it all
proper get all that 365 juice out of there we'll take this top blade off so we'll go here
with the bigger allen set it aside brand new one pop in snug it up oh yeah that's sharp
then i'm going to use this little guy but we're going to put two blades in
so we put our new cut on contact blade and then i'm going to put these new blades in
line up your screw now don't tighten it too much yet we're going to flip it over
and we're going to put a new pin in so i just pop that new pin in i might use my cheater
for this part that's in there pretty good snug that up flip this over snug that up
so we've replaced and we've shot it and we know it's flying true leaving big holes
this bad boy is going straight to the quiver obviously we can do this one as well
uh this i believe dale sells on his website it's just 3d printed it does come in handy for
swapping things out if you are going to reshoot this like so i'm going to keep this in practice
mode you can buy the practice heads if you want i like the real thing so i'll just go in here
give it a little tighten and those blades will stay in for a couple more shots and then when
it's right before elk season like the week before i'll put brand new everything on it and we'll be
good to go guys what do you think hopefully you realize that this channel is just a way for me
to document my journey building up to elk season testing the broadheads that i've selected
shooting the 2d elk switching out broadhead blades or sharpening broadhead blades separation is in
the preparation the devil's in the details hope you enjoyed this one we'll catch on the next one
