Antes del primer libro y de las primeras ciudades, ocho especies humanas caminaron la Tierra.
Algunas desaparecieron sin dejar rastro.
Otras dejaron huesos, herramientas, arte... y preguntas.
We call ourselves Homo Sapiens the wise human
But we are merely a recent spark in a fire that has burned for millions of years
Before us others existed Eight human branches that
breathed loved dreamed and vanished through time
Their bones are language
Their blood still murs in ours
Each one was a different possibility of being human
This is not the story of a species that conquered the
world but of many that
tried to understand it Come with me
Subscribe to Terra Ancestral and let's journey to the origin of who were
Before cities and gods even before words there were eight human forms
Homo habilis Homo erectus Neanderthals Denisovans Homo floresiensis Homo naledi
Homo lusonensis and us
Each one an evolutionary experiment
A spark that briefly illuminated the darkness
This is the story of those sparks
The craftsman Homo habilis
About 2.4 million years ago in
the savannas of East Africa someone struck one stone against another
For the first time a mind shaped matter with intention That
tiny being with long arms and a still simian face created a tool
That gesture changed the course of history
Homo habilis was not strong or fast but it thought outside the body
Its invention marked the birth of ingenuity
The power of imagining a form before creating it
Some paleoanthropologists believe it was not a single species that began to carve
stone Perhaps it was a
shared behavior an idea that arose and was imitated
As if the human mind were ignited in multiple places at once
The pioneer Homo erectus
A million years later a new figure walked upright toward the horizon
Taller stronger bolder was Homo erectus
He was the first traveler of the world
He left Africa and arrived in Asia Europe and the Far East
He carried with him fire tools and memory
It lived for almost 2 million years longer than any other human
A lineage so enduring that it witnessed seas receding and mountains rising
The evidence suggests that he mastered fire and organized collective hunts
And although his brain was smaller than ours his perseverance was his greatest achievement
The pioneer did not invent thought he made it walk Relatives
Neanderthals
Europe was covered in ice when they emerged
Robust bodies broad skulls direct gaze
For hundreds of millennia Neanderthals withstood glaciers
and hunted mammoths They were not primitive beasts
They buried their dead tended to the sick and mixed pigments
Their caves preserve signs of fire tools and perhaps symbols
We encountered them
And we mingled
If you have European or Asian ancestry you carry between 1 and 2% of their DNA
That is not the past it is living heritage
It is still debated whether they disappeared due to our competition the climate or chance
But his greatest legacy was not his extinction but the proof that humanity was never one
What would you have done if when looking at another
human face it wasn't yours Leave it below in the comments
The ghost Denisovans In a cave
in Siberia just
a tooth and a bone fragment revealed another humanity The Denisovans
They lived among mountains and jungles from Tibet to Oceania
They left no art or cities but did leave genetic traces
Melanesian and Australian populations retain up to 5% of their DNA
This heritage even helps them survive at high altitudes
We do not know what they looked like nor how they disappeared
But modern genetics has brought them back from silence
They are the invisible echo of a lineage that never forgot to breathe in the mountains
The tiny islander Homo floresiensis
In 2003 on the island of Flores Indonesia archaeologists discovered something that seemed impossible
A complete skeleton
A creature of just over a meter tall with a brain the size of a grapefruit
They called it Homo floresiensis
The Hobbit
But it was not a story It
hunted dwarf elephants used tools and perhaps lit fire
And most strikingly it lived just 50 000 years ago
When modern humans were painting caves in Europe she lived on a forgotten island
Scientists still debate whether it descended from a shrinking Homo
erectus or evolved in isolation Its size was not a weakness
It was an adaptation
Nature shaped it to survive in a small world
Small yes but deeply human
The Homo naledi Paradox
In 2013 deep in South Africa explorers slipped through an impossible crevice and discovered a burial chamber
Inside scattered in the darkness hundreds of bones
An unknown species
Curved hands ape-like shoulders and a brain the size of an orange
It was Homo naledi
The surprising thing was not its primitive appearance but its age
Just 250 000 years
He lived alongside the first Homo sapiens
The evidence suggests something that shook paleoanthropology
They placed their dead in those deep caves intentionally
If that is true a small mind understood death
Homo naledi forces us to abandon the idea that intelligence depends only on brain size
Evolution is not a ladder it is a river A
flow that branches merges and contradicts
The Luzon Hominin Homo luzonensis
In 2019 history was rewritten again
In the Philippines on the island of Luzon a few tiny bones and teeth once again defied all classification
Thus Homo luzonensis was born
This discovery was a bomb
It showed that Floresiensis was not anomaly
Here was another humanity that living in total
isolation evolved along paths we cannot even imagine
His fingers and toes had curved phalanges almost like an echo of climbing ancestors
But at the same time their teeth had surprisingly modern features
It was an impossible mosaic
A small body adapted to an extreme island environment
A unknown mind
Luzon and Flores are shouting the same thing at us
Asia especially its islands was a laboratory of the humanities The
map of evolution that we thought we knew is not only incomplete
We are just beginning to map its coasts
The last living branch Homo sapiens
And then about 300 000 years ago were born in Africa
Homo sapiens
Our initial advantage was not physical strength
Neanderthals were more robust
It was not just raw endurance
Erectus lasted almost 2 million years
Our advantage was imagination
Where others saw a cave wall we saw a canvas and drew bison
Where others saw the death of a comrade we dreamed of the
invisible We created rituals and buried our dead with offerings
And most importantly we cooperated on a massive scale We created
trade networks shared myths gods and identities that united thousands
That ability to believe in shared fictions allowed us to
cross relentless deserts dense jungles and frozen oceans
But that very expansion that unique ability also left us alone
Science still passionately debates why all other human species disappeared
Did they not adapt to climate change
Did our expansion occur by directly competing for the same resources
Or was it simply a matter of evolutionary chance
We are not certain
But the truth is that for millions of years the planet was home to many types of humans
And then suddenly only one remained
The only animal that asks why it is
alone Why only us
The mystery persists
Some paleogeneticists suggest that were the most adaptable to climate change
Others believe that our cooperation and complex language sealed our fate
Perhaps our greatest strength
was also our downfall
The ability to unite and move forward We are not the peak of evolution
We are the branch that did not break the one that remembers all the others
A tree not a ladder
Imagine a tree
Their branches cross break
and grow again Each one
was a possible humanity Homo habilis lit the spark
Homo erectus carried the flame Neandertals taught
us care Denisovans left
their breath in the heights
Floreciensis and Lusonensis explored the island
Naledi showed us the paradox
And we
We are just another leaf
When you look at your reflection remember you are not alone
Behind your face lies millions of years of fire stone and love
