It might be quitting time on the clock but are you still in the office pulling overtime hours?
Hey, I'm Gina and in this top 5 video we'll see which countries have the worst work-life
balance using recent findings from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development,
other known as the OECD. The survey was conducted across 38 OECD member states plus Russia, Brazil
and South Africa and the findings are based on length of working hours compared to time for
Fifth on the list is Japan. In this country, the percentage of employees who work over 50
hours a week is 15.7%, much higher than the OECD average of 10%. However, the Japanese
government has just unveiled a plan which include new recommendations that could allow for a four-day
working week to improve the country's work-life balance. In at number four is Turkey. An important
aspect of work-life balance is the amount of time a person spends at work and at home.
In Turkey, however, some 25% of the country's employees work overtime hours, above the country's
already 45-hour work week. On the other hand, this is a sizable fall from 2011 when almost 46%
worked over 50 hours per week. As we get into the top three, which country has the third worst
work-life balance? In this rugged rainforestous Central American country, Costa Rica may be seen
as a tropical paradise, but the working conditions in the country might say otherwise. Costa Rica has
made considerable progress in improving the quality of life for its citizens. However, the
country still underperforms the average in the Better Life Index in areas such as income, job,
education and life satisfaction. We've hit the top two and this country is a little further south.
Colombia was labeled the second worst country for work-life balance in the Better Life Index.
Wages and monetary benefits which come with employment are important aspects of job quality.
However, Colombians earn on average $13,300, much less than the OECD average of around $30,500 USD.
Full-time workers in Colombia also devote less of their day to personal time and leisure
than the OECD average. However, social aspects are very important to Colombians with 80% of people
in the survey believing that they know someone they could rely on in time of need. Here we are
at number one and we'll give you a moment to take a guess. This country is in North America and is
known for its rich culture and incredible cuisine. Yes, Mexico tops the list of countries with the
worst work-life balance. Lack of leisure time is the main reason why Mexico ranks the lowest when
it comes to work-life balance. An astounding 27% of workers have 50 hour plus weeks with
approximately 13.5 hours a day left for sleeping, eating and recreation. This is all partly due to
long commute times as in Mexico City it can take up to three hours to get to work and many jobs
stipulate a two-hour lunch break which keeps workers at the office longer. Work hard or play
hard. If you enjoyed this video please give it a thumbs up and follow us to see more and if you
