If you're watching this, it's because somewhere deep inside you've decided there has to be
another way. A simpler way to cultivate a life with peace and calm. Whether it be your first day
or 10th year choosing to make a change for the sanctity of your nervous system, you may find
something of use here. I have been making videos about calm, peaceful, simple living for 4 years
now and although there are agreed upon principles of minimalism and simple living, I like to explore
alternative routes to leading a calmer life here on this channel. So throughout the next month,
that's precisely what we'll do. My daily videos will start with this same intro every day but
believe me when I say duplicity and carbon copies are not a part of my world. This calm world,
I have built from the ground up and you can build yours too. Let's begin.
Well everyone, as you all know, the last year has been very very eventful especially in terms of the
furniture in our room because in all honesty, our needs just constantly change and obviously
as many of you know, we have just brought a little puppy into our life and that meant that the two
and she's coming to knock the camera over so we'll guard the camera with our life, there's had to be
changes because the two big chairs that we have probably only had about three months before we
rescued Zala because we didn't foresee that happening, we'd already kind of come to terms
with perhaps two of them in this room because this room is so small, it's like 3.5 meters by
4 meters if not a bit smaller to be honest because of the unusual shape. We decided that two
was a bit much because they are about a meter wide and about a meter deep and about a meter high
so we already, just before we got Zala, we had taken one down as in dismantled one and stacked
it at the end of our hallway. Now let me just get her some out because she's biting me,
there you go, you get that. I'd already stacked that at the end of the hallway out of the way,
when Zala came here and within hours of her being here we knew that we couldn't keep the current,
I'm guarding the camera guys because she's running round like a little, she's on a mad one as we say,
we knew that we couldn't keep the chair how it was because her claws just get stuck in it, it was a
almost cord like material, they were getting stuck so we tried putting a blanket over,
the blanket just kept getting moved and then a number of other things we realised happened such
as we were going to need a second high desk because my partner couldn't have his laptop out
because she always wants to be on our lap for comfort. So we then discovered that we needed
two desks, we decided that we'd like to go back to having a surfer in a suitable material and fabric
so that she could lay down with us, even though she has her little bed, she likes to be up with
us. Anyway, long story short, you're about to all see everything on the upcoming home tour but for
now I'm just showing you this corner so that we don't spoil too many secrets. This corner ironically
is looking very odd because I think it's okay to have a minimal space when it's all minimal
but what we've got now is we've got the sofa here, we've got this little miniature bistro
desk slash dining table here which is good for us to have while we're eating so that Zala,
you know our new little puppy, learns that we're eating, we need to be left alone otherwise she
wants to sometimes try and get it, she doesn't understand but in general she's quite well
behaved but we want to have that separation for that activity. But then there's this area
and I do get sick of saying this, I'm sure you're all sick of hearing it, there is nothing we can do
about these wires. It is a 200 year old loft apartment, it's got two electric outlets in the
whole room, the other one is in the far corner where you don't want anything so we've got no
choice other than to have these extension leads. I have ordered a long bamboo box to at least put
all the power cords in, obviously that will limit Zala getting them but also so they don't look
awful. The problem is is we need constant access to them and we do change the furniture around
quite a lot so I just can never be bothered putting the sticky back sort of tape to the
walls and getting them to stick to the walls because I change my mind about the furniture
that often. So I'm happy to just have this box when it comes, Zala doesn't go for the wires but
it's good as a just in case. I think she learned quite soon, quite soon into her life here that
as soon as you went for a wire, because we knew that was dependent on her life, we were quite firm
with her and we were like no! So she knows definitely not to touch power cords so she's
never gone for them but hopefully the bamboo box will be arriving in a couple of days. In the
meantime it looks horrible but we're enjoying having the projector there and actually looking
at the big wall over there. So I've bought a furniture free option because I don't want to
waste money for when we also go into van life and this option that I've bought is minimalist design
and it will also be compact for van life. So let me go get it, it's just arrived. I am going to
turn the camera off while I go and move it because I don't leave the camera where it is while she's
running around so when I come back we'll have changed angles so I'll see you all in a second.
So these caterpillar designed sofas or chairs are something that I have had my eye on as somebody
that's interested in minimalist design and minimalist interiors for quite a while, only now
I have an actual excuse to get one because it's not going to be wasted money, it is compact and
it will go in our van. Now I'm just going to tell you all now, when I start unpacking this or
unboxing it for you all and we put it in place to see whether it looks nice, she gets very excited
with the cardboard. I'm just going to let her have the cardboard and play with it and then I confiscate
it off of her later because she's in her playful period, she's in her playful period of the morning
and she will have great entertainment with this box. So let me unbox it for you all and I'll move
you all back. Do you want this cardboard? Go on then, you can play with that cardboard.
Do you want the cardboard? Where are you? Do you want it? Are you scared? What we're going to do is
I'm just going to move that out of the way and she can go play with it over there while we unpack
this. Now it said on the website that this is a suede like material, you can get ones that are sort
of the borg boo clay material, that's the type that's not good for her, that's what she gets her
clothes stuck in. They also do faux leather ones. I have gone for the suede, faux suede because her
clothes won't get stuck in that. I hope that is what they've sent me, at the moment I'm not sure,
I seem to have bad luck when I order things. So apparently guys, it does take about 24 hours
to show its full shape. She's very interested in it, let's see whether she gets her claws stuck.
What do you think? She likes the smell of it. Weirdly it's supposed to be white but it looks
like a very slightly off white, almost white grey colour. These are supposed to be washable,
the zips on the bottom to take them off. Now they did have it in green and I very nearly got it in
green because green might have been more practical with the puppy, in fact it would have been,
but because we're going to already have the green surfer and she's got a little green bed,
I didn't want too much green. We're sort of going with mainly white still but with the odd element
of green and I feel like that's what we might have in the van as well when we do that out. So
it's already starting to take shape a little bit. On here they're actually calling it velvet but it
said like suede. To be honest it does feel very suede like so I'm at least happy that it's the
right one but you will all get to see the full thing fully inflated as it is when it's not been
vacuum packed when I do the home tour in a few days time. But what I like about this in theory
is that it covers up all this area of the wires it will sort of go here like this hiding all that
the projectors there at the side of it it's not taking all the space we've got our little table
over here if we want we've then even got a little nook we could even if we wanted have it more like
this in the daytime as a little nook but then on a night time when one of us wants to watch the
projector we can move it around you know it's a furniture free option it's sort of just a little
bit better than a bean bag but almost bean bag like this furniture free floor seating now I'm
gonna have a sit in it even though I know I shouldn't because it's not fully inflated yet
but I'm just dying to try it out because it's supposed to be ergonomically designed so even
without it being fully inflated I know what they mean it sort of fits to the back of my knee but
yet my knee is not so high that my feet can't go on the floor it's supporting my shoulders and my
back I actually think it's going to be really nice and then obviously we'll turn it just that
little bit more for watching the projector so you'll all get to see that a little bit
better inflated in the home tour see you all tomorrow
