Hello my friends, welcome to China's last primitive tribe.
This is Wa ethnic minority primitive tribe.
But the primitive people also have to work from 9 to 5 every day by tricycle.
Their office is their original tribe, and their job?
To be themselves, sitting on the balcony,
greeting others their own ethnic language, or posting with musical instruments.
Is this the real life of Truman Shou?
But this is also the last primitive tribe in China
that has preserved more than 4,000 years of Wa history.
What kind of the magic place is this?
The Wa people's rice liquor, but there is no alcohol.
Like orange juice.
When you are entering the village gates, there was a ceremony.
They were dancing and singing to welcome you here.
I don't think this is the show, it's a performance.
I think it's like a direct and sincere cultural exchange.
The village name Wengding is derived from the Wa language,
meaning a place shrouded in clouds and mist.
And this has been listed as the last primitive tribe in China
by the China National Geography.
Usually the typical houses have two floors.
The first floor is for storing some wood.
And the roof is really, really big.
And the fetch is really, really thick.
It's almost touching the ground.
How should I get in there?
Okay, I'm here.
So let's go to the second floor to have a look.
This is the fireplace.
The family members can sit here and have the meal.
I guess this is the bedroom.
Yeah, I think so.
You can put a bed here.
I feel that this is not very sturdy.
This is the small window.
This house is not cold in winter and it's not hot in summer.
And it doesn't even leak on rainy days.
So I think the designer is like a genius.
The interior of the Wa I think group house is centered with this fireplace.
And once the fire starts in the new house,
the fire cannot be extinguished
because it represents the prosperity of the family.
Hanyi people, China's another ethnic minority,
also live in such houses that the roof is covered with straw.
But that looks like a mushroom.
So that is also called the mushroom house.
And if you're interested, please check out this video.
But here, the Wa people's house's roof looks different.
It's raining.
You see the roof of all the houses are covered with fetch.
So it's really easy to catch fire.
And it's really hot in the afternoon.
Every day, the water will be sprayed to lower the temperature.
It's all wet now and dripping water.
This is the place where the Wa people offer the sacrifices.
After the establishment of the new China,
they still used the real people's hats to offer sacrifices.
It sounds scary, right?
So later, they were replaced by the bow hats.
And if you're interested in this one, please check out this video.
And look at this skull.
I'm not sure if it's real.
The sacrificial ceremony begins now.
Brother, how do you cook the chicken in the end?
We cook it in the rice cooker.
Cook it in the rice cooker?
Yes, we cook it in the rice cooker.
No, we don't cook it in the rice cooker.
We cook it in the rice cooker.
The ancestors of the Wa people migrated from Myanmar
to here, Cangyuan, China, about 300 years ago.
In 2021, a serious fire broke out here.
A nine-year-old boy played with fire,
causing 104 traditional houses here to be burned down.
I mean all houses, all traditional houses to be burned down.
And after the disaster,
the local government carried out the emergency repairs
and reconstruction of this village,
trying to restore its original appearance.
So I cannot say it's 100% same,
but at least 98%, 99% same as the original primitive tribe.
After that serious disaster in 2021,
all villagers moved out to a new village,
which is three kilometers away from here.
And the most interesting part is that
all villagers are invited to come here to work.
So their job is to show the Wa ethnic group culture,
like waving, singing, and dancing,
and how they do, how they offer the sacrifices.
Or like this lady, just to say hi to travelers in the Wa language.
So this village is more like a large exhibition of the Wa ethnic group,
showing the Wa culture to the travelers.
And you can earn like 60 RMB per day,
that's about 8.5 dollars per day.
Yeah, I think this job is nice.
What do you think?
This lady is waving, and this thread is so long.
It has eight meters long,
and it can be used for making clothes or quilt.
This is the oldest banyan tree in this village,
with a history of over 400 years.
Before establishing the village,
the Wa ancestors would carefully select a place
where they thought is suitable for living
and has rich resources like the soil and water resources,
and then plant a banyan tree.
And over the next year or a few several years,
they will closely observe the growth condition of this banyan tree.
If it is full of the vitality,
they believe that they have received the permission and protection from deity.
That are the granaries,
and they are usually built outside the village,
and the door of the granary is usually not locked.
And they believe that no one will steal the food.
This reflects the high level of trust and unity of the village.
The traditional houses of the Wa ethnic group
made of the bamboo, wood, and fash.
So once the fire breaks out,
these granaries can effectively protect the most important supplies, food.
You see, the roots of its six square columns are supported on the flat stones,
keeping the floor of the storage cabinet at a certain height from the ground.
And this can effectively isolate the moisture from the ground
and prevents the food from getting damp.
If I don't tell you,
can you imagine this is the graveyard of this village?
No gravestone and there is no place to commemorate
because the Wa people believe that the fallen leaves return to their roots.
So this graveyard is reused.
So this cemetery will not change
due to the increase or decrease of the population in this village.
This is the village center.
During the spring festival,
all villagers will come here to sing and dance the whole night.
And it has four parts.
The pillar represents the male and female,
and this is where the offerings are placed.
And this is for calculating the time.
I don't know how it works.
I just want to say they are genius.
And the last part is this one, the stone.
It has been 400 years when the village was established.
