Hello, welcome back to my home. Late November brought the first frost to the Somerset countryside
and my home and village have been waking up to thick fog and frost every morning.
Life and the shop have been busy with Christmas approaching
and despite saying I would decorate early I still haven't put my Christmas tree up.
Andrzej is busy in our little studio but this morning truly feels like the first real day of
winter. Bright with sunshine yet crisp and cold in the air so I went out to clean and decorate
the back door that leads to our pantry. We use this door quite a lot when we come back from walks
with muddy shoes and to take the beans out so I thought it deserved a little bit of Christmas magic.
I can't even put into words the feeling I have when working with Andrzej on decorating for Christmas.
It's our first home, we worked so hard for it and now it's finally a reality and I get to decorate
it for our family to create the most beautiful memories. As I look around I can already think
of so many more things we could do. Lights along the gutter would look lovely, perhaps a little
reindeer and a few more decorations on the window and the door. As the years go by I'm sure I'll
figure out the best way to decorate our home but for now this is more than enough. I'm just happy
I get to spend the first Christmas in my own home.
One of the best things and the main reason we wanted to live in the countryside is how close
nature is. Our village is surrounded by farms, fields and pastures with rights of way so within
a short walk we get to be surrounded by all this beauty and peace and even meet a few curious eyes
each day now as we journey towards winter solstice. This calls for lamps and candles to repel the
darkness and bring warmth into our homes. On afternoons like today my kitchen feels like
the coziest, safest place and I love spending my time here, especially baking.
My regular viewers probably already know what I'm baking. Andres and Jacob's favourite cinnamon
rose but with a festive twist. I've added a sprinkle of ground ginger to the brown sugar
and cinnamon mix to make them feel more like Christmas.
The rose are on their second rise so I popped out with Andres to the sorting office to drop
off the shop orders. I just want to thank you all so much for supporting the British economy
and choosing to shop small this Christmas. I also need to gently remind you that the closer we get
to December the longer Royal Mail takes to deliver parcels so please don't leave your
They look extra cute and I think I might make them again for our Christmas Eve family movie night.
I can't believe we're entering the last week of November. The seasons are turning and another
year is coming to an end. It's such a special time of year but it's easy to get lost in the
constant noise of fast changing fashion, other people's opinions and the busyness of everyday life.
I've shared my thoughts on how to have a slow living Christmas in tune with nature over on
the blog and I hope it helps some of you enjoy a peaceful Christmas that truly feels like you.
Thank you for watching and I hope to see you over on the blog.
