Kittens can switch to adult cat food at around eight to 12 months. To make things easiest (and nicest) for your kitten, it's best to know what you're doing. Our vet explains all.
When does my kitten switch to adult food? Kittens grow fast
and their diet needs to keep up. Most kittens are ready to move to adult food
between 8 and 12 months of age. That's when their growth slows down
and they stop needing all the nutrients packed into kitten food.
Begin by replacing about 25% of their kitten food with adult food and slowly
increase the adult portion over 7 to 10 days.
Making the switch gently helps avoid tummy upsets.
There are diet options for indoor cats, active cats
You'll want the best fit for your cat and their lifestyle and if in doubt
your vet can help you choose. Keep an eye on your kitten's appetite,
energy and digestion. A healthy switch over means no vomiting or diarrhea
and their weight will stay steady throughout. If there's any trouble
slow the switch down and check in with your vet.
