Florence Pugh and David Harbour sit down with “Extra’s” Jake Hamilton to talk “Thunderbolts*”! Florence dished on an epic stunt that had her jumping off the second-tallest building in the world... with no net below! She showed love for Tom Cruise and everything he’s brought to the stunt world, and said she hopes this earns her some cool points. David talked about getting to deliver the epic line, “We are the Thunderbolts!” quipping, “I’m the only guy who thinks we’re a team.” We also had to talk “Avengers” Doomsday” — David hopes he gets to interact with some OG “X-Men” characters! “Thunderbolts*” is out May 2.
Guys, an honor. Thank you guys for taking the time. I appreciate you.
You're here.
I'm here. So good to see you.
So good to see you.
Floors, I'm going to start with you. Obviously, the movie kicks off with
what is honestly one of the coolest stunts I've ever seen in my entire life.
I know everyone's talking to you about it.
That seems like the kind of thing that seems like a good idea on the ground.
And then when you're up there, a little less so.
What is the difference between what you thought that fall was going to be
versus what it actually was?
So when I read it, I thought that obviously the way they were going to do that is
there's of course going to be like a net underneath me.
I mean, they would never let me jump off.
Obviously, I'd be wearing a harness, but like there'd always be something underneath me.
And then I remember like maybe two weeks before the stunt,
I was asking one of the stunties being like, and where's at what level is the net?
And they were like, what do you mean a net?
And I was like, well, where's the net?
And they go, well, we can't rig a net around the building.
And I was like, oh yeah, of course you can't rig a net around the building.
So there was no net.
And that was one of the biggest differences in my brain where I was like,
obviously there'll be like a trampoline.
But there was no trampoline, no net.
And I was just hanging there.
And of course, when you hang, when you, when you drop and it catches you,
they then need to winch you up, which takes a beat.
It's like a meee face.
So you're just hanging there.
Trying the least unsexy pose ever.
Trying to keep your brain really calm and cool.
The movie I want.
Just the first 45 minutes before she's still being pulled up.
I've seen worse, dude.
Give the people what they want.
I know you've talked about Tom Cruise being an influence.
Do you know, has it been sent to his people?
Do you know if he's seen it?
Oh gosh.
I hope he thinks I'm cool enough.
But here's the thing.
I, I just, I love everything that he does and what he,
what he brings to the stunt world and the appreciation and,
and just the real, he's so vocal about how amazing the stunt world is and are.
And I wouldn't have been able to do any of the stuff on this movie
if it hadn't been for a fantastic stunts team,
fantastic Heidi Moneymaker and my stunty Sarah.
Like it just would, none, none of us would be able to even walk in our suits
if we didn't have someone badass next to us teaching us how to do it better.
So yeah, I think, yeah, of course Tom is, is admirable,
but I'm not coming for his medal.
I just want, I just wanted to try it.
Well, I mean, let's be honest,
this would have been nominated for the Oscar category.
That's coming up in a couple of years.
A hundredth, a hundredth Oscars is coming up.
Um, David, you have what might be the line in the movie,
which is in full Red Guardian gusto, we are the Thunderbolts.
You've got to know in that moment, this is going in the trailer.
You got to know it's a trailer.
What is there?
You can lean into it a little bit.
Is there a moment you wait for?
And then once the clothes, once they get real close, you really play it.
There you go, ladies and gentlemen.
No, of course.
Yeah. There's that.
I mean, it's a great moment.
There's a little more color in that line in the actual picture too,
which you'll see, uh, then they've shown you in the trailers.
But, um, yeah, it's great to be the guy on the ground who gets to
scream out the name right before, right before entering battle.
It's, you know, you do it a lot of times assemble.
Well, yeah, cause I'm the only guy who thinks we're a team.
Like all the rest of you are like, I'm out.
I'm like, guys, this is the moment.
There's never a question Mark.
It's always the excellent.
What is it?
We've, we've known each other a long time.
What's the rule on asking an actor in an interview to say the line.
To say the line.
Oh my God.
I mean, if it's De Niro, I know you can't get him to say, you're looking at me.
He said it.
I said it.
No, he did.
I swear to God.
I'll send it to you.
De Niro said it to you.
All right.
If De Niro did it, I'll say whatever you want.
Should we, what's the line before?
What do we want?
I'm waiting on the.
West Chesapeake Valley.
Oh, I need more spit.
Like another one.
No, I don't.
That just sold like eight tickets in that moment.
In that moment.
I know a lot of people are probably asking you guys about doomsday and I know there's
not really anything you guys can tell us that's going to do anything, but I want to ask something
maybe in a way you haven't been asked.
We're getting OG X-Men.
We're getting Fantastic Four.
We're getting some of the OG Avengers.
Who is someone that's going to make an appearance in doomsday that you're curious to see how
they're going to interact with the person sitting next to you?
I'm really excited about.
Oh, sorry.
Go ahead.
Mary Poppins.
Mary Poppins is in the film.
I don't remember seeing that chair.
With the umbrella.
Oh my God.
The scene with the umbrella.
She can cover herself from the spit.
I didn't get Mary.
On a personal tip, I got to say, I hope I get to interact with some OG X-Men.
Yeah, that would be really cool.
I grew up with Ian McKellen.
You got Alan Cumming coming back with the tail and the nightcrawler running around.
I mean, Rebecca Romijn in blue.
I know.
Gimme.
I want to joke around.
Imagine Rebecca Romijn.
Well, I want to say some stupid Thunderbolts thing.
Well, what if she transformed into you guys and then you guys get to be Mystique?
Oh my God.
Wait a minute.
Somebody get a screenwriter down here.
That's amazing.
I want Mystique to play Red Guardian at some point.
Which means you get to play Mystique.
I get to play Mystique playing me.
My God, your ego would just go further.
My brain would explode.
That's amazing.
Somebody get that screenwriter down here.
Where is he?
This was a good interview.
Lot of fun.
I love you guys.
Coffee.
Bourbon.
Yeah, I got you.
For me.
Guys, thank you so much for everything.
You guys have been kind to me for a very long time.
The way that I casually drop in a conversation.
I was talking to Florence.
I was talking to my friend Florence today and they hate it.
But thank you guys for always being so kind.
We Instagram message all the time.
Oh my God.
I'm jelly.
