We're here at the Christmas market in Helsinki and we're gonna try out some of the most popular
foods. Some of the foods might surprise you because we don't have the most traditional
Christmas market foods here in Helsinki. We're gonna rate all the foods based on how they taste,
how they look like, how long we need to stand in line for and how much they cost.
We haven't even eaten breakfast yet so that we can try as many foods as possible.
So this is the 2025 specialty, a reindeer corn dog. I've never actually had a corn dog before
and the only reindeer I've eaten has been in a stew. It cost 9 euros 50 and 35 minutes of
standing in a line. So let's see how it tastes. Very interesting. It has like melted cheese,
a crispy crust, potatoes and for some weird reason it has a sugar coating as well which
is kind of weird. There is supposed to be a reindeer sausage somewhere inside. Haven't seen
it yet. Still no reindeer. So now I found the reindeer sausage and there is like four or five
centimeters of it. I'm gonna tell you this is the scam of the year with this amount of reindeer
sausage. I mean it's all right but given the price, given the time in the line and the amount
of reindeer it actually has, this is I don't know 5 out of 10, 6 out of 10. It's okay but
not worth the hype. Now we got the Haapasalon Hatsapuri. So it's a Georgian cheese bread.
They even have a gluten-free version so I get to try two. There was barely any line. I think we
were there for like three minutes and got this immediately. So great start. It's freezing cold
here today so this is nice and warm. It's stuck on the plate or this so it's a little bit difficult
to eat. So it just tastes like bread and cheese like it probably is supposed to. The bread is nice
and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside but it kind of feels like it's missing something.
There's not that much flavor. You want to try? So maybe I would give it 5 out of 10 because it
doesn't have that much flavor. What do you think? Yeah I think 5 out of 10 is fair.
The cheese is okay, nothing too special and it was a tiny bit dry but that's understandable
because it's gluten-free. Next we're gonna go get the most popular dish in the whole market.
That's the line to the next spot. It goes all the way from here to there so let's see how long
it's gonna take. So the most popular dish in the whole market is this rice porridge. So rice porridge
is a traditional Finnish Christmas food. Every family eats rice porridge on Christmas Eve either
for breakfast or for lunch and the traditional rice porridge is made in a pot and then it's
typically topped with cinnamon sugar but this viral porridge from Naku is made in the oven instead.
Then it has some interesting toppings. There's brown butter, miso, caramel, spicy apples,
some almonds and I think those are lingonberries. So let's try it out. I like this. I think it's
The porridge itself is very soft and creamy and the toppings are actually a pretty good combo
but the bowl is quite small and this costs 12 euros so about 14 US dollars. The line was very
long as you saw but it moved very quickly so maybe I would rate this 7 out of 10. Now Aaron gets to
try it out. All right so a fun fact about the porridge is in the previous years they have sold
over 15 000 portions. Sometimes people have stood over an hour in the line to get the porridge so
let's see how it tastes. Yeah this is actually kind of nice. This is 7, 7.5 out of 10 I would say.
We just went to the store from Ekberg. Ekberg is the oldest cafe here in Helsinki. We got their
most popular dishes. I got this hot chocolate that is topped with meringue. It doesn't look that good
but let's try it out. It's good. The hot chocolate isn't very sweet and it's very
chocolatey. There's not that much meringue on top but it's good. The hot chocolate cost 4 euros
and 90 cents and the meringue was extra 2 euros. There was quite a long line. I think we stood in
the line for about 10 minutes. I would rate the hot chocolate maybe 7.5 out of 10. So this crumble
is something completely new this year from them. It's gone completely viral online in Finland of
course. So it has cookie crumble, a vanilla sauce and some meringue. Some frozen freeze dried
berries. 10 euros so it's quite expensive and I know the cup looks very small but it's actually
quite big the portion. I mean there's a lot of crumble. It's a lot to eat and it's good. I like
it. Like 7.8 out of 10 I would say maybe. There's a layer of jam at the bottom and here we have the
blueberry cinnamon roll. I think it's been topped with whipped cream, caramel sauce and of course
some blueberries. It's dry and it has a very very artificial taste. I mean it looks good but I'm not
the biggest fan of it. This is how it looks on the inside. It's a complete mess. 3 out of 10.
It doesn't taste good. It has very artificial taste. It's dry. It falls apart. I do not recommend.
I couldn't try out the cinnamon roll or the berry crumble because they weren't cream free but we
found these cream free babu waffles. I got the Nutella flavor because I've seen this over TikTok.
It is freezing cold. Aaron said that my lips are already blue so let's try this out. I don't know
how I'm gonna eat this without making a horrible mess. Look how much whipped cream there is.
This is really good. The best cream free waffle I have ever tried. It's super crispy
and yummy and the whipped cream isn't too sweet and there's a lot of Nutella. This cost 15 euros so
pretty expensive and it took a while for them to make these. I would give this maybe 8.5 or 9 out
of 10. It's really good. We had to take a break for a couple of hours because we were freezing cold
so we went Christmas gift shopping but we couldn't find anything but now we're heading back to the
Christmas market. Besides food there's also a lot of handmade and sustainable gift ideas here.
It's freezing cold so I got glöggi or glögg. It's a Finnish Christmas drink and we also got
Finnish salmon soup so it just has a creamy broth and salmon and potatoes so let's try it out.
It's really good. Perfect for this weather. The bowl is quite small though and this was...
How much did it cost? 13 euros so maybe a bit overpriced but the taste is good so maybe I
would give this seven and a half out of ten. There was only one food on my list that we didn't try
and that was spiral chips. The line was so long and we're already so full because we've eaten so
much food so now we're heading home but I wanted to wish you all a very Merry Christmas
and Happy New Year. See you in 2026. Bye!
