Chicopee's Kwanzaa celebration highlights unity and creativity

The City of Chicopee raised the Kwanzaa flag to celebrate the holiday. 22 News Reporter Claire Overton joins us live in studio with how the Kwanzaa collective helped to celebrate. Ciara, today is the 6th day of Kwanzaa, a celebration of African American culture. And as you mentioned, the City of Chicopee celebrated earlier this morning. Kwanzaa is derived from the First Roots Swahili language and it means togetherness, creativity, family and culture. This is the perfect day to do it on Nia, which is purpose. We all as a community want to develop our purpose for working together and building communities. So it's such a wonderful principle to have here in Chicopee. Multiple members and community organizations came together to sing powerful songs including Lift Every Voice and Sing and then Maria del Carmen Rodriguez facilitated a sample of some sound healing for those in attendance. The final days of Kwanzaa, Kuumba and Imani represent creativity and faith and they will be tomorrow and the following day. Working for you, Claire Overton, 22 News.
