Game 1 was a wonderful performance on the defensive end (for the most part). The Raptors' main goals were to keep the ball out of Steph and Klay's hands, and when they did get it, to force them inside the 3-point line. In order to do that, they were willing to give up wide open shots to Draymond and Iguodala.
Welcome to Game 1 of the NBA Finals and welcome world to Toronto, to Ontario, to Canada.
For the first time ever, the NBA Finals is outside of the United States.
No better place than the great city of Toronto.
Fifth consecutive Finals appearance for Golden State.
It's the first time during this Finals run that Steve Curran Golden State will face an Eastern Conference team
other than the Cleveland Cavaliers and LeBron James as the Raptors.
Defense, Lowry gets back, Thompson stays with it and banks it in.
Great initial defense by Kyle Lowry, Danny Green as well, but Clay Thompson staying with it.
Green, shot doesn't go as Green is trying to get going early.
Steph and Seth, great family.
And Steele, going to play inside and out.
Green, kicks it, here's Thompson, gets all on the glass.
Clay Thompson inside, shot clocked by Siakam.
A series in his postseason career.
In the spectacular Game 1 against Milwaukee, Thompson's shot doesn't go.
Looney, cut off, sends it back to Sean Livingston.
Again, good denial by Fred on Steph Curry.
It's a tough cover.
On the glass, there's Kawhi Leonard.
Yes, the Golden State Warriors, yes they won or lost, but you can run on them too if you pick your spot.
7-0 run by Toronto and a minute remaining in the first quarter.
Curry, Golden State has missed their last six shots.
Batted away and Livingston commits the foul.
One of the reasons why the Raptors were able to come through with a series victory against Milwaukee.
Great job just making the shot difficult and that help defender coming over the back.
Looney, Cook, good defense by Gasol.
Points against Milwaukee, shot 47% from three-point range.
Curry, net by Gasol, swatted away and a foul on Steph Curry.
And Fred VanVleet getting assistance from his teammates and up on his feet.
All right, Fred staying glued and that's what he's got to do.
Net by VanVleet, trapped and a jump ball is called.
And Marcus Saul's been a presence against Curry.
The aggressiveness of this Toronto Raptor defense is frustrating and forcing the issue against this Warriors offense.
Alvin Sherman and Michael Green.
Green, the charge, standing his ground is Kyle Lowry.
Nobody reads those plays better than Kyle.
Green, pass stolen by Gasol.
Great anticipation.
It all started, though, in the other end with Kyle pushing that ball up the floor.
By Gasol, saved.
Curry, sees bodies, pass, stolen away.
Leonard, pass, go.
Thompson up top, see Hackam guards him, pushes off.
Looking to move the feet.
Now Thompson drives, kicks.
A good dollar, three, doesn't go.
Leonard on the glass, his fifth rebound.
Hey, Matty, what do you want to do?
You want Clay Thompson to get rid of the basketball.
VanVleet and surge right there.
Hawaii now, Pascal, sidestep.
How about his performance?
Cook in the post and Lowry commits the foul, his fourth.
He thought that he had all ball.
Kyle, I don't bet anybody does a better job at getting back defensively.
Livingston denied by Habaka.
That was a circus power move.
Into the front court.
Gets it back, Lowry closes out.
Cousins in the paint, sends it to Green.
Green trying to make a move.
Over the shoulder, underneath.
Raptors by nine.
Curry at the table to check back in.
Another read by Kyle and he gets the charge.
North Philly's finest takes the charge.
Draymond, denied.
Then spicy P.
Green now, here's VanVleet.
Raptors lead by 11.
Five minutes.
Big numbers right there.
Good pressure on the ball from Danny Green coming up the floor.
Holden State.
106-94, Raptors with the lead.
Thompson, guarded by Siakam.
Backs up, now drives.
Gives it to Green.
Shuffle pass over to Curry.
Thompson, jumper to the Toronto Raptors.
Take game one of the NBA Finals.
118-109.
You have been consistent throughout the playoffs.
What is making this group so good defensively right now?
We have a lot of bodies.
We got guys that are just willing to move and play defense.
We use it to our advantage.
I think we're doing a pretty decent job.
There's some possession there.
We made some mistakes, but for the most part, we played solid.
