Sighting in your multi-pin compound bow sight is easier than you think I'm going to show you
ow to sight in your rifle from 20 yards to 60 yards I'll take you through it step by step to
Make sure that you are consistent and accurate Remember to stay tuned till the end where I'm
I'm going to show you an easy way to sight in your 30-yard and 50-yard pins while shooting less tha
five yards This is a very basic five-pin sight It has no second or third axis It does have a
which is pretty accurate and pretty consistent There are five pins in the sight I'm going to
Start at 20 yards and I'm going to sight this in 10-yard increments So we're going to end at 60
yards I'll show you the process from shooting to making the adjustments to ensure that you
your target I'm shooting a Hoyt RX9 Ultra It's set at 70 pounds 29 inch draw I'm using a
I have Conquest Smackdown bars front rod and side rod And for this video I have a
A very basic five-pin fuse sight It's not micro-adjustable It is however easy to adjust
but there are no small fine adjustments you can make on the sight It has five pins It's
I got a bubble in it And I've just assembled this to this specific bow I'm using Eastern 6.5 300
spine arrows with 50 grain brass in the front and 100 grain point to finish it off We're going
o start at a close distance But before we start shooting what is important to me is as you
Have your sight on the bow it is important that you actually look down the center of the
string center of your bow through where your arrow would be on your wrist and to give you a good
Indication of where your pin should be If I look at it right now my pins are all the way to
e left so I know I'm going to have to make left and right adjustments The other tip that I
Want to give you a heads-up before you start sighting in your sight is to make sure that your sight housing
It's not all the way up And you don't want this to be all the way down either With the dropper
Arrest make sure that when you lift your arrow up your arrow will not hit your sight housing
Then you know you're in the clear to go But the reason I'm saying not to have it all the way
up is because if we're going to start at 20 yards we want to make sure that we can get to
e distance of 60 yards So if we are sighting in our sight at 20 we need to make sure that your
The 20 pin is as high as it can be or close to as high as it can be within the sight housing itself
owing that you've got more than enough space for the rest of your pins I'm standing at 10 yards
I've got a huge target in front of me If 10 yards is too far and you're not sure if you're going to
Hit the target stand closer I'm going to shoot two arrows I know I'm not going to shoot
In the center but I'm going to show you which way to move when you start shooting
Your sight when you want to make the correction This is arrow number one I'll shoot another
arrow What is important before you start sighting in your bow also is to make sure that you're
Be comfortable with your anchor position and with your peep and make sure your peep is the
right size for the sight you're using Your sight housing should fit neatly into your peep
Making sure you can get good alignment every single time you shoot I'm shooting to the right
I'm shooting slightly high but what's important for me is to start making the adjustments
For the left and right and then I'll start making the adjustments for the up and down
From the start I knew I was going to miss to the right with my pins that go all the way to the
left so with my arrows landing to the right side of the target face I'm going to loosen the
e horizontal section of my sight itself but what is important for me for you to understand is that
when my arrows are to the right side of the target face you need to take your pins and follow the line
Arrows meaning we need to go to the right and follow the arrows to the right That is a very
The most important thing you need to remember when sighting in your sight is to follow the arrow I've made my
Adjustment to the right it's pretty much in line with the arrow right now and you can see the
Left and right is perfect it's a little bit on the high side which is fine by me We are standing
At 10 yards so I'm expecting to shoot a little bit on the high side but we are going to make sure
at the top pin is sighted in at 20 and we're only standing at 10 at the moment So my left and
Right is sorted out I'm ready to start moving backwards I know I'm close to the center and as
I'm going to move back the arrows are going to shoot a little lower and that is where I'm
I'm going to start sighting in my 20-yard pin I have a 6 Sauer rangefinder and I've measured this now
Exactly at 20 yards This is a high quality rangefinder if you do have an entry level rangefinder
Make sure to arrange the dark and light sections of your target space you might get different
readings but obviously your bow will only be as accurate as the measurements that you're taking
I'm going to shoot at it What's important to remember is that we have a spirit level that I'm going to make
Sure is in the middle of the the bubble is in the middle because if I am going to have my bow
Canted either way if I have it canted with the top cam to the left I'm going to miss to the lef
And if I can't get it to the right I'm going to miss to the right so make sure your bubble is in the right place
It's perfect and you know that's not the reason you're missing left or right
If you are shooting at sloped angles and ranges that have slopes then it is important that you
Make sure you get a sight that you can adjust your second and third axis it does help
Thank you very much for your accuracy This is very basic this is a flat surface that we're just going to
A 20-yard shot pretty much the same spot where I took my 10-yard shot
I'm about two inches high I'm going to shoot two arrows you can see both arrows are
Very close to each other in the grouping as with the left and right following the arrow rule
I am going to move my individual top pin and I was shooting high so I need to follow the arrow
The meaning is when I loosen this pin I need to move it up I need to loosen this and I need to move it
Adjust it a bit to a position where I think it's going to be and this is a good estimate
For the amount of inches that I am high on there I'm going to shoot it again and make sure I hit
The spot nicely and if not I'm going to do the same thing over Shooting our next two at 20 yards
After making the adjustment it's nice in the center but the wind is blowing so keep
in mind that the wind might affect your left and right and if you're executing badly
Shots don't let a bad shot make you lose focus The wind caught me off guard there
Slightly low so I'm going to make a small adjustment by lowering the pin a b
Towards the arrows follow the arrow and then I'm just going to shoot this final arrow
to see if I get that to hit the middle A slight adjustment of the well-executed shot
I can see that my left and right are sorted out and that the last arrow is in the X I'm happy with it
That last shot was in the X exactly where I placed it The left and right are sorted
Out there is a little bit of wind that is coming into play while I'm doing this video
but what is quite interesting with that last shot is I've just shot a Robin Hood with the
One arrow into the other that's a pretty solid X both arrows are there in the X
Completely broken but it's nice to see that my 20-yard shot is on the money exactly on the X
Inside the other arrow straight into the back of the other arrow 20 yards is done
If we keep going at it for the longer distances we might run out of arrows but we're going to
Move to 30 20 is perfect 10 yards further for the second pin let's get going Something to
Keep in mind when you're sighting in your bow my rangefinder is set to yardage
If you want to sight in your bow in meters make sure your rangefinder is
set to meters and that when you go hunting it is still in that same setting
We're standing at 30 yards I'm going to make a slight adjustment to my top pin because
The pin setting at the moment is just too wide this bow with these arrows has a speed of
Approximately 284 feet per second so I know that with this pin gap it's just too much
When you are sighting in your bow like we do now make sure that you have your target face
the middle of the bow because if you are going to miss high or low then at least you've got a good chance of hitting the targe
I have some area to work with That's a little bit on the high side I'm going to shoot more than one
arrow you can see both those arrows are a little bit on the high side I am going to make the
adjustment they are not close to each other but I can clearly see that they are bo
gh I've made my adjustment the wind was definitely making me aim a little bit longer
That one the one inside the 10 I'm going to shoot more than one both of those arrows are in the 10
ot the best grouping These were my first two arrows that I've shot at 30 yards After I've
Made the adjustments these were the two arrows I've shot not bad I'm not unhappy with the
grouping especially with the wind and the way the wind is blowing So my 30-yard pin is hitting the
Center we're going to go down to 40 yards and I'm going to show you how to get the pin gap close
To your 20 and 30 we'll hit this 10 pretty quickly Before I'm going to sight in my third pin
which is going to be 40 I'm going to check my 20 and 30 yard pin gap and I'm going to adjust my 40
The yard pin is very close to the same pin gap as my 20 and 30 pin It's slightly bigger
Gap but that is good enough for me to give it a first go at 40 I might as well move my 50 and 60
o be the same and that'll give you a good indication that my pins are going
o be hitting the target I've moved all my pins so that the pin gaps between the distances are correct
Pretty close to each other This is 40 yards this is our first arrow the wind is coming from the right
To the left so I'm going to compensate a little for the wind It's a bit high and a bit
Turn a bit to the right so I guess I overcompensated for the wind this time
So from those two shots I can definitely see that the arrows are hitting a little bit
high so I'm going to move my pin up and as we've said before we are following the arrow So
I'm taking my 40-yard pin and moving it up I see that I'm grouping a little bit on the high
Side This is where a micro adjustable sight would be a nice feature Moving this individual pin
without any micro adjustability can be quite difficult sometimes but I am going to move this
A little bit up and then I'm just going to take one final shot a well-executed shot just a little
A bit to the left from a height perspective that is perfectly in line which just went way left
Let's go take a look My last arrow was pointing to the left but I'm not entirely satisfied with that arrangement
That I got at 40 so I'm just going to shoot three more arrows to make sure I got it right
Grouping and I'm dialed in at 40 then we're going to move to 50 The wind is pushing me
Little bit to the left but I am happy with the height Now the height on those arrows
I'm comfortable with the height I see it shooting a little bit to the left hand side
This sight also does not have a second axis and I am wondering if that is also the case So I'm
Shooting a little to the left We've sighted in our bow at 20 30 40 You can clearly see that 50 and 60 are off
It is not the same pin gap as the 30 and 40 So I am going to move my 50
at it is very close to the same pin gap as my 30 and 40 The pin gaps are nice and sort of
close together The reason the pin gaps are close is because the bow is quite fast I've go
my five pins The pin gaps are pretty close to each other Obviously the further that you're
The pin gap will get slightly wider I'm going to shoot at 50 The wind's blowing from
right to left I am pretty confident that my 50 pin will be hitting the middle It's a windy
Day by day and obviously the further you go the more difficult and tricky it gets to want to
execute good shots and to get a good grouping I definitely would recommend you focus on getting
Your sight settings are confirmed on a day when there's absolutely no wind For me today it's showing you
And we've now reached 50 and we're going to go to 60 You'll see the pin gap at the end
We are going to shoot our first at 50 We've made the adjustments to our 50 pin and I'm pretty sure
We'll hit the middle With the wind that's blowing I was a little unsure about the left
and right movements I bubbled a little bit so I can't get my right cam into the wind I did miss
at one on the left This grouping under the circumstances I'm not unhappy with I would say
50 yards is pretty good for now I'll definitely confirm and double check it on a day that's not cloudy
As windy as today Let's go to 60 wrap this up and get ready for some action in the field 60 yards
bottom pin wind is coming from the right I'm going to bubble again I'm going to make sure tha
I get a grouping It's very important to take good shots at longer distances Not a bad shot
Both arrows are high I am going to make an adjustment and at this distance small adjustments are
going to make a big difference It's important to remember you move your sight pin towards the target
Arrow I was shooting high and I was moving that pin up a little bit to the left
Those two final arrows weren't bad My take on these last four arrows from such a long distance
Longer distances make sure you double check your sight settings on a day like today when it's
Windy These long distances will only be an estimate but make sure to come and check it
Go out and double check it when the wind is not blowing It sounds horrible but it is a windy place
day and I'm not shooting very well When I started off with my 60 pin this is a little b
on the high side I've made the adjustments and I've shot these last two They were a little bit
Left but I'm happy with the height of my 60-pin The wind is blowing hard and you can clearly see
The wind is having a significant effect These are 6.5 arrows I am not going to conduct any further tests
with Eastern 6.5 arrows or any 6.5 arrows for that matter I'm going to make sure I get some good ones
Arrows for long distance shooting and long distance accuracy I've sighted my bow from
20 all the way to 60 but if you don't have a lot of time to sight in your bow and you want to sor
get a quick estimate of where your 50 and your 30 yard sight pin should be on a multiple
sight or even for an adjustable sight for that matter Your 30-yard pin you can get it very easily
Close when you stand at five yards and aim at the golf bag and make the adjustments accordingly
and when you move to three yards you're going to use your 50 yard pin and that will give you a good
Indication of where your 50 yard setting will be for your sight setting This will not be 100%
Accurate but this will give you a good idea and you won't miss the butt at that distance
You're going to take three yards from target one two three and you're going to aim with your 50
I have a big golf ball on the target there My 50-yard shot is already lined up
I'm standing three yards away I'm going to aim with my 50 pin I've hit that pin perfectly
I'm going to draw this arrow I'm going to go I've literally split this golf pin at three yards
With my 50 pin and just to get the golf pin back there we're going to go five yards three four five
Yards and then you use your 30-yard pin So keep that in mind if you do have a shot at such a close distance
Distance So this will be 30 yards when there's wind but that is very close That is a quick one
Tip for today If you are a multi-pin sight shooter make sure to practice the in-between
distances and not only the 20 30 40 50 60 yard shot When you do get a shot at 36 or 43
Make sure you know how to aim where to aim and that you do not develop the habit of just wanting to
To aim with a 40-yard pin If you want to shoot at 43 yards practice and make sure you know where
You want your 40 yard pin to be on the specific target you're shooting and remember every
single target you are shooting or encountering in the hunting field might be a different size bu
Do get yourself into the habit and go practice 24 36 and 49 and at the longer distances
These very basic sights do pose a challenge to sight in perfectly so I do want to urge
you to invest in buying a sight that is micro-adjustable something where you can adjus
e second and third axis because sometimes in your life you're going to encounter an area or
a space where you are going to miss having a second or third or micro-adjustable sight I do
