Swimming enthusiast Cody Miller here, and today I am in the great state of Maine.
I am in a small town called Watersville, Maine.
This is the swimming center.
This place is extremely cool.
They even have a Ninja Warrior Gym, which is sadly closed right now, but I met some
real-life ninjas yesterday.
I got swung on the monkey bars and did the Sam Ladder.
It was cool.
This is my first real meet in a while, like a real swim meet, and gotta hydrate.
Number one, always have water on you.
23.6.
Nice.
Now, I am double the age of everyone in this heat, so that should probably automatically
disqualify me.
Yesterday, I ran a swim clinic here at this pool for all the young athletes.
They got to race me.
I showed them some tips and drills.
Today I'm racing in the meet, and we're doing a 50 breaststroke shootout.
So it's gonna start with eight people, like the eight fastest, the 14 and up category.
I'm in there.
You just saw on Top Seed.
Then it's gonna go down to six, then four, then two, so I'll be doing four 50s, I think
on around 10 minutes.
Haven't done one of these in a long time.
Should be fun.
That little girl was fighting to make it every 25 during our swim clinic yesterday.
Never complained.
I was always in the back, just trying to keep up.
She did great.
She earned that cap.
This warmup is a little bit of a jungle.
There's a lot of little chicklets everywhere.
Thank goodness we have touch pads today.
Yesterday, when we were doing our backstroke races, we had to curl our toes.
This is an official meet with an official scoreboard and record boards, and one of those
will be going down today.
Now, for being only a six lane pool, this pool feels very fast for a few reasons.
This pool has what we call a drop in gutter, meaning it's not an overflow gutter.
See, this is the top.
It drops in under here.
That right there automatically makes the pool a little bit faster than others.
It's a little shallow on that side, but they've got a good deep side, so you can rip a really
good deep underwater kick or pull down.
They've got great blocks, brand new, FINA approved blocks with the wedges, the blue
ones.
You know them, you love them, and we're going to go fast off of those today.
I've got my racing suit on.
It's old.
I'm going to start training for a 50 breast in August for my relay team to set a world
record.
I have not started training yet.
I am not training.
This will be a good test to see where I'm at.
450s, the plan is to descend each 50, get faster, and rip the 450 and just see how we
go.
Some stiff competition here.
There's medals on the line.
There's real medals.
You see those?
Yeah.
First 50, here we go.
All right, you can hold that.
Thank you.
I quit.
We advance to the next round.
We've reached the final four.
This is the third 50.
I'm going to turn up the heat.
The goal on this last 50 is to get as close to 23 as I can.
One kid in the previous heat didn't hear the starter say take your mark, so it's going
to be three of us.
Final 50 breast.
Here we go.
27.
Oh, dude, you were so close.
Good race.
Slightly disappointing, but that was good.
Oh, man.
We let the pressure of the moment get to us, guys.
We couldn't get under the devil.
All right, 400-diameters, the water's ready.
Let's go.
Congratulations.
I want to thank my mom.
I want to thank everybody.
Good job.
And that right there embodies the struggle of the 50 breaststroke.
Try harder, go slower.
How many times have I talked about spinning on this channel, trying to not spin?
My third 50 was a 25.4, and it was easy.
It was smooth.
It didn't hurt.
My last 50 was a 25.0, only four tenths faster, and it hurt tremendously, and I just didn't
have a good grip on the water, especially the second 25, just spinning.
So I definitely know what I need to work on moving forward.
I am very confident that if I had just swam that smoother, again, not been too choppy,
probably would have been like 24.5.
So I think that that's realistically around where I'm at, which is pretty good leading
into the 50 breaststroke training we're going to be doing after the summer.
So I'm feeling really good about that, and I think everyone had a great time.
A lot of good, positive feedback, seemed like all the athletes had fun at the swim clinic
yesterday and racing me today, a lot of best times.
So big, huge thanks to, you know, Waterville, Maine.
I'm leaving Maine now, which is a bit of a bummer because I had such a great time.
Fortunately, I will be coming back a couple of times this year.
Two of my best friends in the world, one is Lily King.
You know her.
The other is James Wells.
They're getting married in like a few weeks.
So I'll be coming back to Maine for that.
The whole reason I came out here is because one of you viewers sent me an email and asked
if I'd come out and run a clinic and swim with me.
So if you have any interest in something like that with me later this summer, later this
year or next year, go ahead and send me an email right there.
And who knows, maybe I'll be racing you sometime in the future.
I couldn't come to Maine without getting a lobster roll.
So I'm getting this in before I take off.
I made it to Philadelphia and my flight got delayed two hours, which is a huge bummer.
But on the bright side, now, now I get to try Philly cheesesteak.
Normally that would not be a part of the diet, but when in Rome, you got to have cheesesteak
in Philadelphia.
And I'm kind of still hungry, so I think I'm going to get something else.
I think it's sushi.
Admittedly, walking through this airport, there were a lot of other better food options
that I could have chosen.
Insanely average airport sushi, but you know what, sometimes it's just what I want.
Not bad, not bad.
I am a professional swimmer, sure, but I'm also kind of a professional traveler.
I was just thinking about this as I'm laying here in the airport by myself, that I can
sleep on planes, no problem.
I can sleep on the floor here.
I'm probably going to take like a two hour nap here because I got delayed another two
hours.
Also, I just don't really get worked up about stuff.
Like my bum that I'm delayed, yeah, but I was going to go home late no matter what.
So I'm just going to fall asleep, set an alarm, and no big deal.
I pack light.
I only ever bring one bag.
I'm a pretty easy going traveler.
I don't know if I've always been like that, like if it's my nature to be comfortable in
these situations, or if it's like the 10 years plus that I traveled all over the world swimming
for Team USA.
I don't know.
Anyway, thank you all for joining me.
This was a really fun one.
I am actually headed off to Canada now for an entire week, and then when I get back,
we basically got Swimming World Championships, so going to be covering that.
We're going to do some videos on it.
Maybe some live streams.
It's going to be a lot of fun.
If you'd like a personalized video from me, right there, right there, I'm available on
Cameo.
If you'd like to book an event with me, a speaking event, a swim clinic, a competition,
something, send me an email to codymillershowatgmail.com.
We have merch available on the merch store, codymillerswim.com.
Don't worry.
I will get home tonight.
No big deal.
I'm going to make it back, and until my next one, I will see you all later.
