How to make a Tropical Flower Arrangement - FLORISTRY⧸FLOWER ARRANGING - How to arrange flowers

Flower Arranging Art Short Videos

Welcome back to another tutorial I do have a run of videos where I'm using very
similar colors and flower varieties and that's only because when I have flowers in bul
I get to do a series of videos that sometimes use all the same flowers What I have to
s a gorgeous gladioli and if you're in the UK or anywhere with the same climate
Then you'll know that gladioli are now in season and they're a fairly inexpensive flower that
you can get hold of from most supermarkets or you might even be lucky enough to have them growing
the garden Now this one is a really vibrant pink and what I've paired with it is two sort of
Very vibrant colors This one is the pincushion protea and you might be thinking it's orange
and it doesn't really go with the pink but when you look at it up close the little tips of the
The pincushion protea has a gorgeous pinkish tone to them so it's quite a vibrant color combination
It might not be suitable for all of you but that's my choice for this week and then to pick up o
The orange tones that are in the pincushion protea I'm going to reuse the orange roses
that you might have seen in a few designs before but I really love this quite vibrant color
Combination It's really great to show you what you can do with them Now I'm going to start with the
but first of all I'll walk you through my container I've got this quite heavy sort of
I've probably used this a few times before but it allows me to put a fairly large piece of
Floral foam into the top and because this design is quite structured and almost follows a bit of a pattern
Pattern it's easier to use floral foam than it is to use some wire netting and I probably haven't
I've done quite a loose arrangement for a while using chicken wire so that will have to go on my list
of things to do Now I'm going to start with the gladioli just get them all out I think there is
five in a bunch and I've had them for probably about three days because I wanted to get the
color showing so that it looked more impressive on the video and what I'm going to look for is
One that's fairly straight and has the least amount of open flowers on it and this is going
To create my height flower and I'm going to pop that into the foam I'm on the left hand side of
e foam as I look at it and I'm right way back in the back of the foam so I'm starting a
e back and I'm going to work my way forward and what I'm going to do is create almost like
A column effect one side so I'm going to group them quite close together bring all the
beautiful color and texture of the gladioli all the way down to the front and to the base so if
We go to a side view you can hopefully see that I've stepped them forward maybe an inch each time
I've added a flower and then I've got that column shape of flowers one side a bit more
of a modern feel a bit more of a modern trend and behind it to the right-hand side I'm going to
Use these wonderful pincushion proteas and if you're in a part of the world where they grow
You might find them in the garden or in the parks and I'm really quite envious
because it's such a beautiful flower and really what I'm going to do here is replicate the colum
of gladioli and do the same with the protea on the right side I've probably done something
quite similar to this in a tutorial before but it would have been with a different color
Combination and a different flower choice and I'm just going to tuck them down in that
quite severe column one side making use of the smaller heads at the top and then the larger
More open heads to the bottom and I'm just kind of looking to see which one fits next
Position and it's going to be this one I've made sure there are no leaves on the bottom
When I insert it into the foam and I've got three so far and I think that's probably going to be
I've got five altogether but I think three is adequate for today's design
What I am going to do with the remaining two gladioli is almost use them towards the back now
quite often we would cover the back of our foam with foliage maybe a ribbon bow or some moss
but since I have these two fairly open gladioli left I can pop them in and take them right down low
In the foam and straight away we've covered all of the foam that's at the back and remember it's
It is important to always cover your floral foam so that the water doesn't evaporate and then it
will leave your flowers without any water Now the obvious gap to put the remaining flowers in is
I'm going to be on this side but before I do that I'm going to add some greenery one side
of the arrangement first and for that I'm going to use two of the fatsia and I'm not going to
Place them on either side of the arrangement I'm going to place them in a bit of a group
together to give me a bit of width in the arrangement different color different texture
and give me a nice contrast against the very fussy head of the pincushion protea
so that's introduced a little bit of an asymmetrical element but what I'm going to
Now on this side bring in some almost manipulated foliage you'll probably all recognize
this from the garden This is broom or genista and it's quite messy and untidy to go
the style of arrangement that I have today so what I'm going to do here is I'm going to use
I'm just going to move this to one side I'm going to use some of the bullion wire so this is a very
pale rosy pink color and I'm going to wrap this along the length of the stem it's going to give me a
shaped branch that now has more control and I've got this lovely curved section instead
That full heavy bulky piece I'm going to do that a couple of times just so that I've got a variatio
In lengths and thicknesses I've done three if you don't have any broom or genista in your area
Garden then you could quite successfully do it with some conifer you just need a foliage
that leaves will pull in tightly for you to be able to wrap the wire around and what I'm going
o do is to curve them so that they are coming up on the opposite side of the design from my large
Fatia leaves and it's going to open up some space give me a little bit of interesting movement
Give me a counterbalance to the fatia on the opposite side I'm just going to loop them
Between each other so we get some casual lines I think that's working quite well now
Done three but I don't know if I need to use all three or I think I'm going to go quite tall
So I'm going to straighten it up slightly and then place it in so we're giving the design a
A little bit more height I thought maybe it was going to be too untidy but I think that works
Quite well so a lovely bit of enclosed space in amongst these big loops and it counterbalances
ose really big fat leaves on that one side and now rated the base I'm going to put some
variegated fats hederas and if you're not familiar with these this is a mixture or a cross betwee
The fatia and the ordinary ivy leaf that you find in the garden and these will help
Almost give me something like a surface or a base to put my roses on I can grow this quite successfully
In my garden and it cuts you can cut it back and it keeps on growing and keeps on growing
Now that group or that band of leaves on the one side can give me a little contrasting base
So I can place my roses on top and I am using the short roses that we've used before
The arrangement but it gives a really lovely color link between the oranges that are in the
protea I quite like the color orange and pink together I think it gives you a really good
Contrast just spin it around so far we've got a little group of four but I'm going to keep
going probably with another two maybe another three but with some quite simple elements
I think we've ended up with a really striking arrangement now because I went quite wide one
side with the manipulated broom I'm now thinking that I'm going to add in two more of them
The proteas on this side here are just to balance to visually balance it so fortunately I
have two left and at this time I'm going to extend them out a little bit more to give me
A wider floral design right let's just pop that one in and I'm going to lower down this one so
There's not quite such a big gap between those ones there but I think that works really well
This will sit really nicely on a reception desk or a side table I'm just going to open them up
Slightly so we've got a bit more space between them now that I've adjusted the placement
protea I think the design works a little better and I've nearly forgotten that I need to
Add in my green trailing amaranthus and this is going to work really nicely along the side of
the container alongside those orange roses and I'm going to group this together I'm not going to
Do it all throughout the front because it's going to look a bit artificial and when I'm
By doing this I can remind you that there is a brand new website sharondower com if you want to pop over
And see what courses are available if you don't already know I run lots of online courses and
they are now accessible through the new website there are roughly seven or eight courses that run
£295 as a standalone course or you can subscribe to the channel for £49 a month and
You have access to all courses for as long as your subscription is valid if you want any one-on-one
Tuition then we do that online as well via Zoom and don't forget there's that Facebook group
Sharon's Innovations where you can join me and share photos of designs that you make so
We've got one more of the amaranthus this is going to pop in right underneath those orange
roses I think that's a really fabulous tropical design and I've really loved doing that one
Because I like those bright tropical flowers as ever thank you very much for watching Don't
