Honda XRE 300 or Yamaha Tenere 700 for South America?
Will this Honda XRE 300 be suitable for my trip to South America?
And can I compare it with Tenere 700?
These are good questions and in this video I'm gonna tell you the answers.
So if you have nothing to do, grab your favorite drink and stay with me.
Welcome back.
I perfectly understand that this Honda 300 cannot be compared with my Tenere,
but considering the current situation and seeing the whole picture
and knowing the cost that is going to save me,
it looks like this will be the perfect option right now.
Let me now tell you a few words about the specifications of this model.
It has 300cc air and oil cooled engine and delivers 25 or 26 horsepower.
It has a good ground clearance, 21 inch front wheel and 18 on the back.
41 millimeter forks, which I believe will be very soft for my weight,
but I can live with it.
It weighs only 150 kilograms and this will be a big plus in difficult terrains.
The tank is only 13.5 liters, but considering the low petrol consumption should be OK.
Also, I can always buy a petrol can when I need it.
You can see once again that these motorcycles cannot be compared
and a Tenere 700 will be way better for someone with my size and weight,
but to bring it to South America and back will cost me at least 3000 euros,
maybe a little bit more.
And when I add the fact that this Honda 300 was provided to me for free from Thomas,
my decision is pretty obvious, right?
Thomas, if you watch this, thank you very much.
This help is highly appreciated and as I said many times,
I really hope that one day I'll be able to return the favor.
The price is the first obstacle.
The second is that it's not so clear how much the local customs fees are going to be.
It might be anything from 100 to 600-800 dollars.
And I will understand it only when my motorcycle arrives there
and I cannot do anything about it.
And this makes me somehow nervous because I have to add this amount
on the top of 3000 euros that I already need to pay for transportation.
The third is not so clear arrival date.
It might be anything from 1 to 14 days.
So if I have to wait over there for two weeks just waiting for my motorcycle
and every day paying hotels and food and everything,
this is not going to be funny at all.
The fourth is that this Tenere 700 is not so popular in South America.
This means that in the case I have a technical problem, for example,
I might need to wait a little bit more than usual to get the spare parts.
On the other hand, this Honda 300 is made in Brazil
and it is one of the most popular adventure motorcycles in the whole South America.
And in almost every garage, you'll be able to purchase parts or fix it in the case you need it.
And as you already know, I'll bring my own mechanics.
So all of these different obstacles make it even more easy for me to go for this Honda.
Back to the questions.
Will it be better than Tenere?
No.
But will it be cheaper and easier to get it and run it and use it all the time?
Hell yes.
And when I checked all the pros and cons for me, the clear winner is this Honda 300.
Also, as I said many times, the bike is just a tool.
The travel is what really matters.
I have done many, so many interesting trips with different motorcycles
and I enjoyed them very, very much.
So I don't think that now it's going to be an exception.
As usual, I'm going to use my trusty saddle bag from 21 Brothers,
but this time I'll be even lighter.
I don't think that my entire luggage,
include my tank bag with all of my camera gear, will be more than 10 kilograms.
No tents, no sleeping bags.
As I said, I'll try to do it as light as possible.
The less time I have left, the more I cannot wait.
Now, until the trip, I will continue with this schedule one video per week
to tell you something about the trip, how everything is going,
preparation and some new information and so on and so on.
But once I start traveling, I do plan to upload at least two, three times per week,
short updates, non-edited short updates from the trip, how everything is going,
what is the current situation, where we've been at the moment and stuff like that.
Like usual, short update, two, three times per week.
And the long episodes, of course, I will start editing and upload only when I get back home.
Also, on my Instagram, Facebook and the new TikTok account, I will upload almost daily
interesting posts, pictures or some new information that I've got.
All the details will be in the description down below.
So, thank you very much for watching this episode, guys.
Press like or dislike, whatever it deserves.
If you subscribe, even better.
See you in the next one.
Ciao!
