Ruyi’s royal love 003: Was Qianlong’s step empress the niece of Yongzheng’s empress?
In Ruyi's royal law, Ruyi is the niece of Yongzheng's empress.
Both of them come from Ula-Nara clan. The empress wants Ruyi to become the empress of Hongli
and honor the Ula-Nara clan. In the official documents recorded in the Qing dynasty,
both Yongzheng's empress Xiao Jingxian and Qianlong's step-empress were called the Nara clan.
For example, in the formal documents that Yongzheng and Qianlong promoted them to the empress,
both of them were called the Nara clan. Xiao Jingxian was promoted to the empress
from Yongzheng's Di Fujin. So she was called the Di Fujin Nara clan.
The step-empress was promoted to the empress from Manjin Inner Court Imperial Noble Consort.
So she was called the She Liugongshi Huang Guifei Nara clan.
Today, most researchers believe Xiao Jingxian is from Ula-Nara clan. The step-empress
is from Huifa Nara clan. In the TV drama, the empress Ula-Nara is put under homorize by Yongzheng.
After Yongzheng passed away, the government officers require Qianlong to promote Ula-Nara
to the empress' daughter. But Zhen Huan doesn't agree. To protect Ruyi, the empress is forced
to suicide. In real history, no such drama. In 1691, Kangxi arranged 10-year-old Xiao Jingxian
to marry 13-year-old Yongzheng as wife. In 1697, Xiao Jingxian gave birth to a boy.
But this boy only lived 8 years. She never adopted Yongzheng's third son or helped him
in the throne competition. Xiao Jingxian not only had great relationship with Yongzheng,
she also was liked by her in-laws. Yongzheng's biological mother, the consort De, didn't like
Yongzheng at all. But she really liked Xiao Jingxian. Xiao Jingxian passed away in 1731,
4 years before Yongzheng's death. Although at that time, Yongzheng already secretly said Hongli
as the crown prince, he didn't promote Hongli's biological mother to the empress.
Ruyi, the step-empress, married Hongli in 1734. The empress Xiao Jingxian already passed away
for 3 years. The step-empress had no chance to meet Xiao Jingxian in person. In my opinion,
in Qianlong's imperial women, only the empress Xiaoxian had chance to meet Xiao Jingxian.
Because as Hongli's wife, Xiaoxian could participate in some formal royal events.
Qianlong's other imperial women were gege. They were not qualified to participate in royal events.
The imperial noble consort Chunhui became Hongli's
chef-fujin in 1734. Xiao Jingxian already passed away.
