My name is Shin Lim.
I'm from Boston, Massachusetts, and I am a magician.
I was 16 when I first found magic.
My first performance ever was at my parents' church.
I was doing close-up magic,
and I just got a bunch of pity claps.
AGT stage.
Yeah, I've seen it ever since I was young.
I was like, oh my gosh, one day,
hopefully I can go on this stage and perform.
I was pretty shy talking to girls,
and so I thought magic would be a good way
to kind of get a girlfriend,
but turns out you have to talk to girls, so...
Is that all? You're just gonna take a deck of cards?
That's all I do, which is a deck of cards.
Hi there. Who are you?
My name is Jimmy Ichihana. I'm a magician.
Ah.
See, it's not just the clubs.
That would be all of the diamonds, all of the hearts.
Guys, thank you so much. You guys are amazing.
Very impressive, but I wonder if there's any way
you can make it a little bit more entertaining.
Honestly, I've started to get a little bit bored
of card trick magicians.
I know the judges have seen quite a lot of card magic,
so, yeah, I'm pretty nervous.
AGT is such a big deal for me,
so I really hope the judges think I'm special enough
for my own Vegas show.
That would mean the world to me.
Hello. Hi.
Hi, welcome. What's your name, please?
My name is Shin Lim. Shin, where are you from?
Boston, Massachusetts. Wow.
And what do you do?
I am a card magician.
OK, whoopee.
I'm not going to ask any more questions, so good luck.
Thanks. Thank you. Thank you, guys.
He just winked at you. Did you see that?
Just pick one.
Anyone. Oh, you can see me.
Can you write your name?
Everyone stood on their feet. Howie?
Oh, my God.
By leaps and bounds, is the best sleight-of-hand
close-up magic I have ever seen.
Thank you so much.
Really good, like, ballerina hands.
Gorgeous.
And I still cannot close my mouth.
Literally, I feel like I was like this.
Yeah, I think we all were.
Thank you.
Well, Shin,
I did say to somebody earlier on,
I think I've had it with card magic.
Yeah, you did. You did say that.
I did say that. I'm now going to take that back.
Shin? Yes.
This was... Incredible.
I mean, this was unbelievable.
But, Howie, you have your first yes.
Mel B?
You have your second yes, brother.
Third yes.
I think there were, what, 3,400 people in here?
So amazing, absolutely.
Olivia, could you take your hand, this one,
and cover it right over here?
Make sure you don't move, okay?
Bloody hell, Shin. Wow.
That was spooky.
Olivia, you were literally inches away.
What happened?
I still don't know.
There was one card, and then there were four.
That was my hand, and it did not move.
It was amazing. It was truly amazing.
You're so gifted. Thank you.
Heidi?
Out of all the magicians out there,
you're the only one that actually makes me believe
that magic can be possible.
Thank you so much.
It's really, like, it is mind-blowing what you do.
Thank you. Thank you so much.
Howie?
You know, the last time I said, by leaps and bounds,
you're the best close-up magic I ever saw,
and this time was even more magical.
You keep delivering.
Young man, you keep delivering like that,
and you are going a long way.
Thank you, Howie. Thank you so much.
Well, you know what's gonna happen today?
Only seven acts go through out of these eight.
So we'll see. Well done, Shin.
Thanks, guys.
He crunches them up, and he opens his hands,
and they're gone.
Very cool.
She's really good.
Okay, like, what?
What the...
You know, I can't give a better compliment than this,
but I've said, by leaps and bounds,
the best close-up magic I've ever seen,
and it is so...
As a germophobe, I mean this in the best way.
It is so clean. Oh, thank you.
It is so clean and seamless.
No, it is. The way these things...
I'm looking, and I'm right there.
You are wow. People have to vote.
If you're not in the finals,
then America doesn't know what they're doing.
Okay, thank you. And then Mel,
just, like, winking at us and, like, going...
So sexy.
I just love the whole performance
and what you do with your hands.
Oh, amazing.
I mean, I was saying to Heidi,
you insured your legs for, like, a million...
a million dollars each leg?
I did, and the client did, but it's not...
You need to insure your hands for at least
five million per hand,
because what you do is amazing
and fantastic. Fantastic.
Heidi?
I agree with Howie. You definitely are the best
close-up magician I've ever seen.
I mean, first there are normal cards, then it says
I love America, then I love America's
got talent, then they're in the box, out of the box,
and then they're gone.
What?
But you do it so smoothly.
He does.
What's amazing is she understands.
Fantastic. Simon?
You're like
Harry Potter without the glasses,
aren't you?
I mean, genuinely, the only thing I would say
is I think moving forward, we have to
move away from the cards and do what
John Dorenbosch does. We need more of a
performance.
She's getting, like, a sexy woman or something, being like...
That was a performance, though.
Yes. It was an amazing performance.
How are you feeling right now? I mean, I think you've got,
like, a lot of women in America and across the
world going, whoosh.
Well, I'm really excited to show you what I have next.
I think, Simon, you're going to really like it.
It has to do with cards, but if I go through,
I promise you will like this next one.
Make sure you keep
winking at us. We like that.
Alright, good luck, Shen. Okay, we're going to keep
it moving.
My turn?
Pick one of these cards.
Show it to the camera.
Go ahead and open the marker.
Show it to the camera.
Very good.
I'm nervous.
Okay.
You just saw a ghost.
Wow. Look, for anyone who
says they don't believe in magic,
hello!
That wasn't a trick, because
you girls were sitting there with him.
We were watching things go from your bum
to your mouth.
I mean, it was
actually incredible. And I'll tell you
why you were better this time around.
It's that your whole presentation was better.
From your intro, it was more
dramatic, the music was better, it was
eerie, but what you do itself
is sensational.
And you look like a star.
Well, first of all, you need
to be in the finals. America's got to vote.
The whole time you're up there, it's like
how does he do that with the card?
How does he do it with the marker?
How does he do that with his hair?
We don't know!
I want you to do it. Do it, how he does it.
Pardon me? Do the sex thing.
How can I? I can't. I know he has a look
and everything. But you are truly
amazing. You are on top of your game.
YouTube can't be wrong. I've been watching you on YouTube
and you're just the most
amazing close-up magician I've ever seen.
You've got to be in the finals. America,
vote. What? Do you see that
sexy thing that he does? The hair thing?
I don't know if it was sexy, but yeah, it was kind of very
mysterious. Very mysterious.
You had me at the word go.
I was trying to figure it out. I was saying to myself,
are my eyes actually seeing what
I'm seeing? And yes, I
witnessed true,
classy, mysterious
magic and I loved it. Thank you so
much.
First of all, I want to thank you for picking
me so I can really see it super
up close. It was absolutely insane.
I really feel you will be
like a household name like
David Blaine or David Copperfield
or Houdini. Chin,
limb, I can see it.
They're reacting to your magic.
They're reacting to your stage presence
and Heidi just put your name
in the same sentence as Houdini.
How does that feel?
I can't even speak right
now, so thank you. That's amazing.
And I never would imagine
that my name amongst all those amazing
great magicians, so thank you. Thank you guys.
But I think you're going to be the first sexy one.
Sexy one. Good luck.
I was
19 when
I first developed carpal tunnel in both
of my wrists.
Eventually I had to
quit playing the piano and
take what used to be a hobby
a little bit more
seriously.
Before I knew it,
a new passion had ignited
just like that.
See those dice over there? Grab onto it.
Roll it.
What do you see?
Can you show it to the camera?
Or you can hold onto them.
You said nine, right?
Watch. Out of those nines, which ones
do you want?
I want the nine of hearts.
Nine of hearts.
Oh my god, Shin.
I mean, oh my god.
You have been
consistently great. I had
one criticism about you throughout the competition
which was your lack of showmanship.
Tonight, thank god,
you proved me wrong because not only
was it an amazing act,
the whole presentation, from the
piano to the cards,
seeing something I've never seen in
my life, this was so good, Shin.
You know what? You could actually
win the competition.
Thank you so much.
It was right there close.
It was amazing. Howie?
I agree with everything that
Simon just said. That was a
one million dollar act.
This is worthy of
your own show in Las Vegas.
You took something so
small and made it so huge
and so effortless and so
sexy and so...
I'm glad you see the sexy, Howie.
He's very sexy, this man. I'm okay
with my manly hood. You're very sexy.
Thank you, Howie. And I loved everything
about this. This is a winning
act. It really was a winning act.
There's no more to be said. Mel B.
Wow, wow, wow.
I mean, let's think about it.
Tyra, you could have picked any card.
Any number, any
parts. Yeah, I have on this dress, I felt
like I was going to the club in this dress. I was thinking about
nine clubs and I decided hearts at the last minute.
Well, you look amazing. She rolled the dice.
I'm just saying, it could have been anything
that you picked and you made a whole
entire act based off what
Tyra picked. I can't explain it
any other way apart from that was pure magic.
I mean, I do believe it exists and you
just proved that point. It does exist.
Well done. Thank you. Heidi?
Shin Lim, you definitely
are one of the best close-up
magicians that I've ever seen. Not
only on this stage here at America's Got Talent
but in the world. And nothing
would make me happier if you
get that million dollars tomorrow!
This
is so much love. Everybody was
on their feet. These judges are in love with you.
I'm flabbergasted. I was right
there. What is going through these
magical veins of yours right now? I can't believe
it. This is the first time I've ever performed this act.
It's so new and I'm just so glad that
you guys liked it. Thank you so much.
And you play the piano. Oh my gosh.
This is too much talent. Thank you, Shin.
Hi, Tyra. Hello.
Alright, everyone. We're going to try something literally
interesting. Can you grab the deck?
Can you just give it a mix? Give it a little mix?
Yeah, shuffle it up as much as you want. You can even
look through the cards and see
if they're all different.
Are you happy? He's a professional card player
over there. Only when you're happy.
Alright, cool. Here we go.
I'm going to riffle down the deck like this.
You just say stop anytime
you want.
Stop. Right there?
Remember the card.
Don't forget it. Forget it. The trick's over.
Have your hand out like this.
Shuffle up the cards.
Mix it up as much as you want.
Again, until you're happy and it's thoroughly
mixed inside. That way I have no idea what your card
is or where it is. Can you close your eyes?
Alright, I'll do whatever you want.
Alright, cool.
Here we go. We're going to try to find your card,
but not me.
All of us.
Yeah, here we go.
I'm going to try to split the deck into
four equal piles.
I'll try my best to make them
as equal as possible.
I was never very good at math, but
here we go.
I don't think that's funny, but
yeah.
Alright, Akbar, you pick the card.
You get to point to a pile. Just point to one.
Point to a pile? Yeah, point to a pile.
Alright, give it to someone other than yourself.
How about
you get that one.
Point to another one.
This one. Alright, give it to someone other than yourself.
Alright, both.
Thank you.
Let's take this one. Alright, cool.
We all grab the deck like this. This is what we call a gambler's
grip.
A what grip? Mechanic's grip.
What a dealer would do at a casino.
Try dealing the top card right over there.
Yeah, very good.
And then shuffle like this. And then deal.
And shuffle and deal.
But make sure it's in a nice, neat little pile
like that. Because neatness does count.
You can even deal multiple cards like a packet
if you want. All we're doing is
we're actually just thoroughly mixing up
the cards. That's all we're doing.
Until you are finished.
Very good. You're fast.
These two others are a little slow.
Okay, okay, okay. Hurry up, Matt.
Sorry, Tyra.
Live TV. You have your cards. Grab it.
Now you guys play poker? Yes.
In poker, we burn the top card like this. Go ahead, try it.
Burn it. Do you know why we do that,
Tyra? Cheaters. Yeah, that's right
because sometimes there's marks
on the back of the card. That's why we burn it.
So in this game, we can burn as many as you want. Go ahead.
It's hot. Burn it.
Okay, I'm not burning them, Tyra.
Stop whenever you want. I'm stopping here, but you guys
don't throw all your cards, obviously.
Now let's count in one, two, three.
I've got two. I've got one,
two, three, four.
Was I supposed to have kept more, Shanton? That's okay.
No, no, no. You can throw as many. I have six.
Don't touch your cards anymore. So look in this pile.
Look, I'm not going to do anything funny.
I would say about half of our cards are in here.
Would you say that? That's about 60%.
Yeah, 60%. That's very accurate.
You threw a majority of your cards.
I did throw a majority of mine away. Yeah, which makes
this trick a little bit harder, so thank you for that.
Now, for the first time ever,
what was your card? Because they don't know what it is.
Okay, you sure? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You can say it. Jack of Clubs. Jack of Clubs.
So the chances of it being in here is about
60%, right? Yes, 60%.
You gave us the piles.
I had no influence on you whatsoever.
No. We didn't talk about this backstage
or anything like this. This is the first time you've ever
seen this, right? Yep, that's right. This is the first time.
We then shuffled the cards very
thoroughly. Yeah. I feel like you're about
to do something to us here, Jen.
What if I told you,
even though all of that happened,
that Jack of Clubs is in your pile?
In my pile? Yeah. Never.
What would you say? That's a 20% chance?
Zero. Less than 20%. Well, okay.
Let's do better. Okay. What if it was at the top
of your pile? No.
That's impossible. Lift up the top card.
Show them. What is it?
Show us! You shuffled the pile.
I did. But we're playing poker, right, guys?
Yeah. And you know, in poker,
a four of a kind's the best hand.
Yeah.
That's why I have a Jack. Tyra,
that's why you have a Jack. What the hell?
Jack of Clubs. Oh!
And Shin Lim. Okay, after the break,
one of the world's greatest violinists,
Miss Lindsey Stirling, and it's gonna be so cool.
Congratulations to both of them for an
incredible season, but
America's chosen as the winner.
Good luck to both of you.
America
has voted.
The winner of the $1 million
and the star of the
headline show in Las Vegas
is
Shin Lim!
Thank you so much to everyone.
I love you all so much. Thank you,
every single one of you. Which one of you?
I can't speak right now. It's okay.
You're amazing. I cannot wait to go
to your show. We are going to be back
next year. New talent,
new stars. Do you have
a talent? Do you want to win
a million dollars? Auditions
start soon. I want to see you on the stage.
