A couple of storylines that I'm looking at today.
Number one, Charlie Morton possibly his last start of his career.
And number two, can Drake Baldwin get to 20 home runs?
Charlie Morton being back in a Braves uniform is sort of surreal
and it's going to be fantastic to see what he does today.
I'm officially calling it Charlie Morton Day.
Why not?
Pretty exciting for everybody here,
I think, to get this opportunity to see Charlie Morton.
You can see the overall numbers of what he has done as a Brave,
but it really is the memories, I think, of the postseason
that stick out as some of the biggest ones for Charlie Morton,
but it's worked out really well.
And we got to see number 50 back in a Braves uniform
at the end of the season and perhaps at the end of his career.
So he has walked Triolo.
That'll bring Nick Gonzalez to the plate.
Grounder to third.
On to second for one.
Come on.
Double play.
Five.
Two down.
Pham is on with a two-out single.
That'll bring up Andrew McCutcheon.
And the two, of course, on that date,
back on June the 10th, 2009.
Morton's Pirates debut.
Andrew in his first week in the major leagues on Friday.
And, oh, it looks like he came off the glove there of Hasan Kim.
There goes a base hit for McCutcheon.
And McCutcheon will turn 39 October the 10th.
And Bart with a fly ball towards deep left center field.
Got some carry to it.
Harris and Profar to the track.
That's Harris' ball as Rue makes the catch on the warning track
in front of the left center field wall.
The Pirates going with Johan Oviedo here in the finale.
The big righty is 2-0 with a 3-5-7 ERA in the season.
One-out walk to Matt Olsen.
And something we'll keep an eye on for Matt.
If with one more homer, it would be his fifth career 30 home run season.
Runner at first, one down for Ronald Acuna.
Ronald, 4-4-8 in this series.
Ronald Acuna lets it high.
Always nice to punctuate the season with a home run in your last game.
How about this?
Fastball right down the middle after the walk.
95 miles an hour.
And Ronald hit this thing 451 feet.
This was a bomb.
Look how far up this goes to left center field.
Wife Cindy, four kids here today.
Cam, Benji, Grace, and Amelia all to take in what could be the final moments
of Charlie Morton's big league career.
2-2.
He struck him out!
And for Charlie Morton, that's going to be the last batter he faces today,
possibly in his career.
Brian Snitger is going to come and get him.
This very well could be the end of the road for Charlie Morton,
and what a ride it has been.
When he walks off the mound, he would like to believe that he's walking off
knowing there was still something left in the tank.
The spin on that curveball, that last one that he threw,
ranked 29th highest of his career.
Of the 11,633 curveballs he'd thrown in his life,
it was a top 30 curveball.
So he's still got it.
I mean, that was unbelievable.
Something very special that a special guy did in Chris Sale
to let Charlie Morton have that moment today and soak it all in.
Flores, a wave and a miss.
Struck him out with a slider.
And that ends the top of the second.
Pirates go down 1-2-3.
One out for Matt Olsen, who drew a walk and scored ahead of the Acuna Homer.
And now a line out to Nick York.
Two are gone for Acuna, who hit a long home run his first time up a two-run shot.
Strike three call, got him with a curveball on the inner edge.
To the fourth, it's two-nothing Braves.
Braves two, Pirates nothing.
Joey Bart will lead it off.
And Sale has come out and done his thing out of the pen.
He strikes out Joey Bart looking here to start the fourth.
Good-looking slider here.
Nice job by Drake Baldwin.
Just wiped him out.
Fastball, 96.
Went up and away and got the swing and miss.
Faster runner at first in Nick Allen.
He's there with one out.
Back to the top of the order.
And Jerkson Profar, who's popped out twice.
Runner goes.
And, oh, what a throw.
Wow. Yes.
Right on the money.
Joey Bart nabs Nick Allen.
Couldn't get rid of it any quicker.
And you couldn't have thrown it more accurately.
Strong and very accurate.
Right on the bag.
Had to be there.
Right there.
Strike three call.
Got him on the slider.
And we'll go to the sixth in Atlanta with the Pirates trailing two-nothing.
Chris Sale goes to work.
And he delivers to Tommy Pham.
Payoff pitch.
Check swing.
He went around, struck out.
Strikeout number six for Chris.
Brian Reynolds will pinch hit for McCutchen.
Brian Reynolds pinch hitting.
How about that?
Pinch hitter Brian Reynolds doubles.
And as he bats for Andrew McCutchen, that's interesting.
Andrew wrapping up his season with a one for two day.
And Pirates trail two-nothing.
Reynolds in scoring position.
Here with one out in the sixth.
Bart going to drop one into right field.
And Reynolds will score.
It's a two-one ball game.
A pinch hit double for Reynolds.
Bart brings home Reynolds.
It's two-one.
That's what you like about the extra base hit.
Yeah, you only need two hits.
Hit a ball hard, get on second, and just a little jam shot.
But well placed out there in the right field.
Take it off for second base.
They got him.
They did.
You are right.
Excellent throw by Baldwin.
And Allen does the rest.
They're thinking about it, but they're not going to do it.
And Drake Baldwin, we saw some throws to the third base side
of second base.
Good adjustment here as this one is on the money.
Good pick from Nick Allen to get that tag down in time.
One-two pitch.
Swing and a miss.
Stuck him out.
Canario not singing that tune this time.
And coming on in relief for the parents.
Second big league appearance for the lefty Hunter Barco.
Matt Olsen, liner to left.
Bounces into the third row.
A double for the Braves first baseman.
Solid at bat here for Matt Olsen.
You see a guy who you've never seen before,
and it's left on left.
And there's a 94-pound hour fastball right down the middle.
Not a lot of movement to it.
Comes back to strike him out.
How about that?
Hunter is especially a guy as good as Acuna.
You tie him up with a fastball,
especially at a fastball count 2-0.
You speed up that bat a little bit.
So you got the chase on the breaking ball and then the split.
Builder's choice for Flores.
He's at first and one down.
Yeah, it's 96.
Painted inside corner.
Kim Devaney.
A little frozen pizza here on the final day of the season.
And what does Chris Hill usually do in these spots?
He empties the tank as good as anybody.
And he got him looking at a fastball.
A final strikeout of the season for Chris Sale.
Nine strikeouts today.
He had to battle through injury this year,
but still put up wonderful numbers
on the heels of his IEM campaign in 2024.
One down here in the eighth.
Well, one final shot for Matt Olsen,
most likely, for that 30th homer.
That'd be a great time for it.
Olsen. Soft little liner.
It drops.
Allen around third.
He will score.
Insurance in the eighth.
Still a good way to end it for Matt Olsen.
RBI single in a spot in which you were looking
for a little bit more room.
Fastball mislocation in off the plate, but high velocity.
It looked like Matty might have got jammed a little bit,
and that might have been a good thing.
As Allen slides in, give Matt Olsen 95.
Runs driven in this season.
Battle in the hands of Drake Magdalen.
One final trip to the plate,
most likely for Drake to wrap up his rookie campaign.
It won't be a homer.
It's a bouncer to short.
Routine as it can get.
Throws one in the dirt that Flores can't pick,
and it leads to another run.
Raizel Iglesias on here in the ninth inning.
He'll be working for his 29th save and 34 chances.
Line to center, Michael Harris.
Yeah, one more great catch for him.
It has been consistent all season long.
Everything that's gone on with Michael,
yeah, there's been some up and down with the offense,
but the defense has remained consistent all year long,
and why not one more time here in the ninth inning
to gain number 162.
...thing for out number one.
O'Neal Cruz up to the plate now.
He'll be pinch hitting for Canario.
And getting a strikeout of O'Neal Cruz.
Two down here in the ninth.
From off of Iglesias' glove, Allen makes the play.
Final time in 2025, Braves win.
And that's the season.
Another year in the books.
The Braves win it four to one.
