Top 10 terrifying discoveries in Antarctica
Spooky images recorded from under the ice shelf
Number one position is a mystery that scientists have yet to explain
Antarctica the frozen continent isolated at the southern end of the Earth
It is covered by 98% of permanent snow and ice with an average elevation of more than 2 000 meters
This harsh land not only harbors an bone-chilling cold with a record low temperature of -89.2 degrees Celsius
but also preserving horrifying secrets buried beneath a thick layer of ice for millions of years
From the devastating viruses poised to revive in the permafrost layers to the questions surrounding the secret base
Alien with mysterious pyramid architecture and a deep-sea monster with two tentacles and a strange shape
From another planet all have created a majestic and terrifying Antarctica
In today's video join us as we explore the top 10 terrifying discoveries
in Antarctica the findings that have shocked the entire world
Tier 10 Fire ice Beneath the thick ice
in Antarctica exists a very special form of matter called methane hydrate
It is called fire ice
Just one cubic meter of methane hydrate can release up to about 160 cubic meters of methane gas when it decomposes
When burned this fuel produces almost no fine dust or sulfur compounds
Therefore it is evaluated by the scientific community as one of the most promising clean energy sources of the future
But few people know that this rare source of energy
is due to the recent dramatic changes in the earth
It is quietly turning into a time bomb capable of destroying all of humanity
Under the increasingly evident impact of global warming
The ice sheets in Antarctica are melting at an unprecedented
rate causing the isostatic recovery of the Earth's crust
Specifically when the thick ice layer that once pressed heavily on the continental
surface disappeared the crust no longer under great pressure gradually rose up
It reduces the pressure in the underlying sedimentary layers
This change directly affects the burning coal deposits that are in a stable state
Making them less sustainable and posing a risk of disintegration
In 2024 a Spanish expedition first recorded the phenomenon
Gigantic gas plumes erupting from the ocean floor
and the volcanic mud flows on the Antarctic Peninsula
with columns up to 70 meters wide rising hundreds of meters high
However when these air columns rise to a depth of about 150
meters below the surface most of them gradually disappear into the ocean
Methane is a very potent greenhouse gas with
a global warming potential 20 to 40 times greater than carbon dioxide
Usually the methane from burning ice is slowly released into the atmosphere and is mostly
absorbed by the ocean or microorganisms so it has little short-term impact on the climate
However if there is a major
geological disturbance methane can be
released in large quantities causing serious impacts Furthermore
The process of methane hydrate decomposition still harbors very serious geological risks
When the ice melts at room temperature and releases
methane gas its volume can expand by about 160 times
It significantly weakens the slow accumulation structure
thereby potentially triggering large-scale submarine landslides
The Storresia landslide approximately 8 000 years ago in the Naui Sea region
It caused a tsunami over 20 meters high devastating the coasts of North Europe
A similar mechanism could occur in the South Pole's ice sheet
where the geology is complex and contains much ancient organic material beneath the ice
It increases the risk of large landslides and tsunamis across the ocean if ice sheets collapse en masse
Studies show that
The amount of methane hydrate in the Antarctic can reach up
to about 500 billion tons more than the total amount of methane in the atmosphere
If this massive concrete structure were to be released uncontrollably
It could quickly push the planet into an extreme greenhouse effect
At that time the Earth may have to face severe climate changes
Similarly the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum event occurred about 56 million years ago
In addition to alarming warnings about melting ice in Antarctica
some opinions still claim that the level of risk is being exaggerated
Because the methane gas is trapped deep under the sea it is very difficult for it to escape directly into the atmosphere
What about you After getting to this point what do you think about this perspective
Scientists believe that Antarctica the most remote and harsh continent on Earth
Almost like a pristine land little affected by humans
However recent studies have revealed a worrying truth
Even in Antarctica microplastics have been found especially polypropylene
This is a type of plastic with an extremely durable structure almost impossible to decompose in nature
Where do those microplastics end up in the harsh icy environment of Antarctica and how do they survive
In 2024 international scientists in Antarctica successfully isolated a psychrophilic bacterium
Demacoccus SPAEDL3 from frozen soil This bacterium is capable of surviving in low temperatures
and uses polypropylene microplastics as the sole carbon source for growth
To evaluate the degradation ability of AEDL3
Scientists conducted a 40-day experiment
This bacterium was cultured directly on commercial polypropylene
But without any preliminary processing steps while monitoring the material's weight changes
Polypropylene plastic reduced by 7.8% in weight reaching a peak reduction of 23% by day 20
For 40 days of the experiment the plastic continued to degrade at a slow rate
Demonstrate that AEDL3 has the ability to stably and durably degrade polypropylene
The notable thing is the AEDL3 strain even without any preliminary processing with plastic
It is still possible to actively break the polymer chains of polypropylene
This shows that this bacterium does not require the assistance of light or a thermal decomposition process
They are created by humans to weaken the plastic structure which can directly affect the intact polypropylene particles
This phenomenon is extremely rare in microbial degradation studies
Chi Demacoccus is a group of Gram-positive bacteria that have been documented to
be capable of degrading DDT low-density polyethylene and other organic pollutants
The discovery of the AIDL-3 strain has significantly expanded the range of this genus
Especially when demonstrating the ability to degrade polypropylene in extremely cold environmental conditions
This discovery opens up great prospects for future biological restoration technologies
Strain AIDL-3 is not only representative of a promising solution in environmental protection
but their ability to adapt and function efficiently at low temperatures also allows for use in cold storage systems
Furthermore if the key degrading enzyme that AIDL-3 possesses can be identified and isolated
while applying advanced movement techniques to enhance the performance of this enzyme
It could potentially spark a revolution in the plastic recycling industry
Future studies may focus on the synergistic effects of the microbiome
For example combining with other mineralizing
microorganisms thereby accelerating the decomposition process
In addition the application of gene sequencing technology can help comprehensively decode the molecular mechanisms of degradation
In addition when combining light thermal processing and other pretreatment
methods the degradation efficiency can be significantly improved
The discovery in Antarctica not only highlights the severity of microplastic pollution
but also opens a new ray of hope for humanity in the fight against the plastic crisis
And AIDL-3 may be the crucial key
The 8th Ice Hole
Scientists analyzing unusual gravity data at the South Pole
They were extremely astonished to discover a huge hole with an unusual shape
Its structure gives the impression of a lingering trace of a guest
from outer space and it is called the Wynkesland Impact Crater
Since 1962 two American scientists Smith and Whitehook
based on seismic survey data from Victoria Land
along with gravity measurements conducted during the 1959-1960 phase
They proposed the hypothesis that beneath the Antarctic ice there could be a huge impact crater
With a diameter of up to 243 km and a depth of approximately 848 m
By 1976 Whitehook had officially published a scientific paper
in which he presented a more detailed account of this hypothesis
But in 1979 this hypothesis began to waver
Glaciologist Henry Sarklee Bentley publicly opposed it
He did not support the meteor impact scenario but leaned
towards the possibility that it was simply a natural depression
By 2006 two scientists Ralph von Fritz and Laramie
Bosch through data from the Gravity Recovery Satellite
It has detected a mass concentration with a diameter of about 300 km
This area has a U-shaped structure
It has a large central mass while the surrounding ring is lighter
Such a distribution pattern is commonly found in impact craters on the Moon and Mars
and is considered a distinctive mark of ancient collisions
This discovery once again brought strong attention to the hypothesis of an impact crater
In the following decade
Scientists continuously apply increasingly
advanced analytical methods to study this phenomenon
By 2018 a group of scientists had combined gravity data
from the GOCE satellite with BEDMAP2 topographic data
Thus confirming that the giant hole can be as wide as about 510 km
All these signs match the characteristics of a large-scale impact crater
The latest 2025 study further proves that this assessment is well-founded
Lysang said that this structure is located about 1.6 kilometers deep
The origins of this phenomenon can be traced back 250 to 500 million years ago
Even earlier than the time when the Antarctic and Australian continents separated
That also raises a disturbing hypothesis about whether such a massive collision could have occurred
Has there ever been a mass extinction in the history of Earth
To answer this question scientists have proposed the antipodal volcano theory
As a result when a huge meteorite collides with one side of the Earth
Energy passing through the planet's core can trigger intense volcanic activity on the opposite side
This disaster may be related to the Burmese Triassic mass extinction
If this hypothesis is correct
The Green Cat's Land impact crater may be the cause behind global ecological changes
However a part of the scientific community still maintains a cautious stance
They propose alternative hypotheses such as the rise of magma
ectonic activities deposition processes or erosion caused by glaciers
And with a thick ice layer of about 1.6 kilometers it is still not possible to drill through to collect samples directly
Therefore there is no conclusive evidence to confirm which hypothesis is correct
In the future if it becomes possible to drill deep through the ice to collect rock samples from the bottom of the hole
This mystery can be completely solved
It not only helps determine whether this structure was formed by a meteorite impact
but also helps us understand the mass extinction events in history
Rank 7 Column bird classification
Under the impact of human-caused climate change
Antarctica the land of ice and snow seemingly unchanging is warming at an alarming rate
But a new study shows that guano unexpectedly helps to curb global warming
It may seem hard to believe but it can play an important role in helping Antarctica maintain its natural coldness
According to a study published in 2024 in the journal Nature Communications
Ammonia from penguin droppings may contribute to increased cloud cover in the Antarctic region
This cloud layer reflects solar radiation thereby reducing local temperatures
This surprising discovery comes from a research group led by atmospheric scientist Matteo Borgi
The team deployed measuring equipment at the Marambio base in Argentina
Combining field observations of flocks of storks to analyze the impact of bird droppings emissions on the atmosphere
In the experiment the wind blew from an area with 60 000 Adderley pigeons increasing the ammonia concentration
Rising to 13.5 ppb thousands of times higher than the background level
This gas combines with the floating forms from plankton to create aerosol particles that form clouds
Even when the birds have left the remaining droppings continue to emit ammonia maintaining a concentration about 100 times higher
It shows the important ecological role of the hornbill in the process of cloud formation
And the survival challenges they face which few know that they
also possess a special superpower in regulating the climate
In fact the impact of stork droppings goes beyond their ability to contribute to cloud formation
In 2020 a study led by scientist Paul Elberling
of the University of Copenhagen in Denmark
They have discovered an unexpected fact: parrots can release laughing
gas This is a gas that was once widely used in warehouse anesthesia
and due to its short-term fragrance-inducing properties has been abused at some entertainment venues
However on South Georgia Island in the South Atlantic Ocean
Scientists who studied medium-sized birds and had prolonged exposure to environments containing feces
Symptoms such as headaches dizziness and even mental disturbances have appeared
The process of forming laughing gas is actually quite simple
The barn owl preys on fish and other mollusks
Then this nitrate seeps into the soil and is converted by soil bacteria into laughing gas
This type of gas gradually accumulates in the air and in enclosed areas or when the wind is weak
The concentration can rise rapidly enough to affect the human nervous system
It's hard to believe that a seemingly ordinary pigeon droppings
It can also contain such great scientific value
But it's truly sad that these incredibly valuable natural engineers are now facing the loss of ice
The breeding environment is increasingly shrinking along with a host of other threats
If their population continues to decline
The mechanism of cloud formation and the ability to regulate microclimate will
also be affected thus contributing to the acceleration of warming in Antarctica
Today Antarctica is the most remote and frozen continent on the planet
Only the hardiest creatures can survive in the harsh conditions around the South
But if we go back in time hundreds of millions of years the scene here was completely different
At that time Antarctica was a vast forested land in a high
latitude belonging to the largest forest belts on Earth
At its peak its area could rival the Amazon rainforest today
Travel back in time to the Paleozoic and Permian eras the
Antarctic was once part of the supercontinent Gondwana
At that time although it was located near the poles this continent was
not yet covered by ice but had a warm and humid climate
In that fertile land dense forests developed
With lush green trees and towering ferns reaching high
The most notable is the polar willow which can grow up to 40 meters tall
From the Triassic to the Jurassic period Antarctica once had lush and thriving forests
In the Alan mountain range area today
Scientists have discovered a nearly perfectly preserved Cretaceous fossil forest
It consists of 37 fossilized tree trunks
These ancient trees can grow up to 20 meters tall thriving on the alluvial plains of the Cau River system
During the White Cretaceous period of the Mesozoic Era when dinosaurs still dominated the Earth
Antarctica is experiencing an unusually warm climate
Even areas near the Antarctic Circle at around 82 degrees south latitude
They once had lush vegetation similar to the temperate rainforests in New Zealand today
In the summer the temperature here can reach around 19
degrees Celsius and even though there are endless long nights
The forest ecosystem still maintains a strong vitality
Modern climate models show that during that time
The CO2 concentration in the atmosphere ranged from 1 120 to 1 680 ppm much higher than the current level
Another astonishing discovery is that in the sediment layers with a base dating back about 30 million years
Scientists have found pollen traces of palm trees This evidence
suggests that ancient Antarctica may have once been a paradise
With a tropical ecosystem
The latest fossils of the shrub Notophagus date back about 15 million years
During the Earth's climate phase the Middle Pleistocene era entered a period of cooling
This is seen as a milestone for the final days of the forests that once covered Antarctica
Since then global temperatures have dropped sharply and the Antarctic ice masses have gradually formed and expanded
The vegetation here must wither and disappear completely
The dense green forests of those days
It is replaced by the vast cold tundra and eternal snow and ice as we see today
From the vast tropical forests that once covered the distant poles
From the snow-white desert of the present the story of the flourishing then declining Antarctic fores
It is not only a magnificent legend of nature but also evidence
of the harsh climate changes that the Earth has undergone
Rank 5 Alien Abductio
Antarctica a land long regarded as one of the most isolated and inaccessible places on Earth
The harsh climate and violent snowstorms nearly halted all human exploration efforts
But it is precisely this wildness and mystery that makes Antarctica the center of countless rumors
Among them are hypotheses about the presence of extraterrestrials
Besides the explosion of the entire story which originated from Brian a former U S Navy member
He mentioned that during his service when he was on duty with the flight crew in Antarctica
They had often witnessed silver UFOs gliding swiftly over the ice fields
Notably the appearance of these UFOs seems anything but random
But it is linked to an enigmatic goal fixed deep beneath the ice
In 1985 during a mission flight a medical helicopter accidentally discovered a cave
uge with a diameter of up to about 91 meters Notably around the mouth of the cave there are
The tracks are clearly visible looking like the marks of large vehicles
This discovery quickly sparked a series of hypotheses about the existence of a base
Underground secrets And as satellite technology continues
to advance more incredible images continue to be revealed
A publicly released satellite image has revealed a shocking discovery
Just below the thick ice layer is a massive pyramid-shaped structure
with an estimated width of about 1.9 km What is remarkable is that its four sides are almos
Such a high level of accuracy in design and construction makes it hard for many to believe that this is just a natural phenomenon
Naturally the shape of this structure strongly resembles the ancient Egyptian pyramids
But its harsh location and climatic conditions seem to surpass human construction capabilities
In another image previously released by Google Earth people
were surprised to notice a cave hanging on the cliffside
The entrance clearly shows the heavy steps and marks as if heavy machinery had been dragged through
But after a short time this image was inexplicably replaced
That careful cover-up only raises questions about whether there
is a secret here that the U S government does not want exposed
There are rumors that the US once conducted a secret expedition
To explore the ruins of a pyramid temple deep within Antarctica
Although the expedition team brought back images as evidence
But all these materials were later recalled and never widely published
A person who claims to be a member of a special forces unit with the nickname Hai Cau No 1 revealed tha
He once discovered an underground architectural complex spanning 250 000 square meters
In a large room he discovered a star map device and high-
tech relics possibly left by an extraterrestrial civilization
According to him many soldiers and scientists have encountered strange phenomena here
And then they all had to attend strict secret press conferences
Even anonymous archaeologist withdrew from Antarctica
A witness known as Spartan once discovered a metal structure beneath the ice
The huge octagonal structure is decorated with intricate carvings and a star map
This experience once again confirms that Antarctica is hiding unexplored mysteries
When faced with phenomena that seem to exceed the current limits of science
How many secrets on this earth are still waiting to be uncovered
In 2021 scientists in Antarctica discovered beneath the ice of the Weddell Sea
In the deep water area about 500 meters down a massive fish breeding ground known as the Icefish Empire
This magnificent ecosystem spans an area of up to 240 square
kilometers equivalent to about a third of the area of Washington D C
It is remarkable that on average a termite nest appears every 3.85 square meters
A total of about 60 million active hives with a total biomass reaching 132 million pounds
The Antarctic krill is a species endemic to the Southern Ocean and the surrounding seas of the Antarctic
To survive in the extreme cold
They develop a clear blood stream containing antifreeze proteins which help the body from freezing
Previously scientists had never seen them reproduce at such a high density
Even species of freshwater fish known for their communal breeding habits build only a few hundred nests
But beneath the Antarctic ice this icefish empire creates tens of
millions of nests almost seamlessly connected and covering the ocean floor
This discovery happened entirely by chance
In early 2021 marine biologist Purser from the Anfeld-Wiesener Institute in Germany
He and his team took the icebreaker ship Polarstern to the Gettel Sea
Initially their goal was to study the chemical relationship between the sea surface and the sea floor
The research team used a combined camera and sonar system to observe and study the ecosystem here
As the device swept over the Fiedler Ice Shelf round structures had continuously appeared in the lens
It was quickly identified as a polar bear's nest
During their four-hour first dive the researchers were amazed to see
Continuously captured images show neatly arranged fish nests almost without any interruption
In the next three consecutive surveys
The researchers noted an extremely high density of coral nests within a few kilometers
Each colony usually has an adult individual guarding around 1 700 eggs
This phenomenon not only reflects the impressive reproductive strategy of the icefish
but could also reveal an important piece of the Antarctic ecosystem that has long been overlooked
This massive breeding area of the Antarctic toothfish may even play a significant role in the Antarctic food chain
Scientists observed that two types of frequently appearing ice formations are present in this area
They dive to the areas where icefish live throughout the year to search
for food and icefish are likely one of their main sources of nutrition
The cause of this phenomenon has not yet been clearly identified
Scientists speculate that this area is rich in plankton providing an abundant food source for young fish
In addition the sea temperature here is much warmer which may have provided ideal conditions for the icefish to spawn
Although the exact cause is unknown such a high reproduction rate in fish is extremely rare
It almost created an entirely new type of deep-sea ecosystem
However this enormous structure also harbors serious fragility
If the reality shows that most icefish reproduce only at this exact location
That means they are betting their future on a single area
When this place is affected by climate change human activities or other ecological factors
This species of fish is facing the risk of extinction
In the men's singles event a remarkable and impactful phenomenon is quietly unfolding
Some glaciers are flowing faster than ever before while
others are unexpectedly slowing down in a puzzling manner
So how is this happening
Based on satellite image analysis from 2005 to 2022
scientists have discovered tha
The Kohler glacier area in the southwest pole is experiencing an extremely unusual phenomenon of ice flow restructuring
Especially between the East and West Kohler Glaciers there is a notable interaction
The East Kohler Glacier moving rapidly and losing thickness
It is rapidly sucking ice from the western neighbor Kohler
This strange phenomenon has been likened by researchers to a "snow robbery" behavior
Previously scientists often believed that
It may take several hundred even thousands of years for the change
in the direction of ice flow and the redistribution of the ice layer to occur completely
But a new study published in the journal The Cryosphere has completely changed this view
Thanks to the high-accuracy data from the European Sentinel satellites and the CryoSat satellite
Scientists have for the first time clearly observed the icebergs
A phenomenon in which within less than 20 years the neighboring glaciers have been completely overtaken by this one
The research team focused on analyzing the eight major glaciers near the Amundsen Sea coast in Antarctica
Includes the famous Pope Glacier Smith Glacier and Kohler Glacier
These glaciers ultimately flow into the Dawson and Crosson ice shelves floating on the Amundsen Sea
Data shows that since 2005 the average speed of glaciers has increased by 51%
Among them four glaciers recorded impressive increases of 60% to 87% within just 17 years
By 2022 the East Kohler Glacier and the West Smith Glacier were melting at an average rate of more than 700 meters per year
However in the glacier race the western Kohler glacier has
unexpectedly slowed down with a 10% decrease in flow speed
Researchers believe that the East Kohler Glacier is stealing ice from the West Kohler Glacier because it is flowing faster
It thins the ice and draws the western Kohler Glacier flow towards it causing this glacier to flow eastward
The retreat of the glacier's grounding line accelerates the flow of
ice into the ocean creating a chain reaction among the glaciers
They are not isolated systems but rather a complex interactive network
The intense melting of the East Kohler Glacier is not only weakening the structure of the West Kohler Glacier
But it can also spread to nearby glaciers causing irregularities in the ice flow
And this phenomenon of ice thieves seems to be silently affecting the globe
Even if the deadly viruses from the past are released from the permafros
It sounds like a scene from a science fiction movie but this risk is very real
Global warming is accelerating the melting of the ice caps
causing chemical waste thousands of years old to be released
These darkening agents even ancient viruses can quietly come back to life
In 2003 virus researcher Glavary first discovered a virus
especially named zombie virus Unlike ordinary viruses which are small and only
It can be observed with an electron microscope this virus is significantly larger
Enough to be seen under a regular optical microscope making it a specimen
deal for studying the origin and evolution of viruses In 2014 he and his research team were
Success in reviving ancient virus excavated from the permafrost
After 30 000 years of hibernation this virus has regained its ability to infect Although it can only attac
Single-celled organisms such as amoebas and are harmless to animals or humans
This experiment still reveals a terrifying potential causing many people to shudder
A year later he continued to separate and revive another virus from the frozen layer
Targeting the variant strain And in the 2023 study Glavary and his team exploited
Ancient virus strains found in Siberian permafrost These viruses were extracted from the layers
different geology with the oldest sample located 16 meters below the surface dating back approximately
48 500 years old with the youngest sample found in the stomach and fur of a mammoth
about 27 000 years old What is surprising is that among these specimens they have discovered
They are completely new viruses Although these resurrected viruses currently only have the ability to infec
But despite their diversity no scientist is certain that they will not change
The future and may be transmitted to humans In reality in the permafrost layers
Scientists have discovered viruses and bacteria that are capable of infecting humans
For example in 1997 on the Seward Peninsula in Alaska from a woman's lung sample
Researchers have found the gene segment of the virus that caused the 1918 pandemic flu
In 2012 researchers discovered traces of the smallpox virus gene
A 300-year-old preserved body was excavated in Siberia Then in 2016
An unusual summer heatwave in Siberia caused the permafrost to thaw deeply
It exposed anthrax spores This event led to an outbreak
causing more than 2 000 sea turtles to die and many people to become infected
Today scientists still cannot determine whether these ancient viruses
When appearing in a modern environment are they still infectious and it
is also not yet possible to predict whether they can find a suitable host
However the risks from climate change are certainly increasing
The Antarctic ice sheet may be the final grave of viruses throughout human history
When long-dormant viruses are awakened it not only triggers
Scientific curiosity but also poses a serious threat to global public health
In the cold deep waters of the Antarctic there exists
a creature that leaves anyone who sees it in awe
It has 20 long flexible arms that resemble sliced strawberries in shape
It evokes the alien mask from the movie
This unique creature was named the Antarctic feathered beard star by scientists
From 2008 to 2017 scientists conducted numerous boat expeditions in the Southern Ocean
cluding the Nam Oc Mi Islands Elephant Island David Sea and the Nam Sunweed Islands
They deployed deep-sea trawling nets to search for previously unknown marine life
One of the most astonishing discoveries is this 20-armed monster
This species of organism lives at depths of up to 790 meters
While some of its relatives can even survive in deep sea areas nearly 2 000 meters deep
The Antarctic toothfish is not the only strange creature
it belongs to a group of marine animals called sea cumbers
This species is related to starfish and sea urchins and has
existed since the Ordovician period about 490 million years ago
In particular between 360 and 320 million years ago during the
Mississippian period they dominated the ocean floors across the planet
Today the southern elephant seal has become a new member of this ancient lineage
He describes the characteristics of the ancestors such as
free swimming adapting to the ocean and having a unique shape
Their bodies resemble an upside-down strawberry usually dark purple or reddish
Twenty arms radiate from the body each covered in tiny delicate tubes
Used to catch floating planktonic creatures in the water
They do not attack or threaten humans
They mainly survive by feeding on small aquatic organisms
When full or wanting to move they can even use their hands as climbing tools
Swim freely to the new place
The more surprising thing is that this discovery is not rare at all
In the same study scientists also discovered three other new species of sea lies
Among them are two species that also have 20 arms
namely Bromachogrinus anruhi and Bromachogrinus utlassii
They have a similar appearance but small differences help distinguish each species
These differences arise from the unique evolutionary environment of Antarctica
During the last ice age 20 000 years ago most of the continental shelf was covered in ice
At that time many species became extinct with only a few surviving
in open water areas deep sea regions or additional unfrozen continents
This isolation limits gene flow leading to speciation
And when the ice retreated the surviving creatures reclaimed the seafloor and evolved to adapt to the new environment
creating the diversity and strangeness of the Antarctic deep-sea ecosystem
The amazing thing is that among the species of Antarctic fur seals which visually look very similar
But they have a completely different set of jealousies even unable to reproduce with each other
They seem to be intricate codes naturally set up
Waiting for scientists to gradually unravel the mystery of evolution
