In this video we'll explore the most effective technique in car photography, called light painting. This is the best way to level up your automotive photos. I'm going to show you how to shoot and edit your photos in Lightroom and Photoshop.
All the gear you need for LIGHTPAINTING: https://kit.co/TheChrisHau/car-photog...
I know there's someone like me who names their files after client names
Why is there always an underscore in everything
Why does the client finalize the project
Just like when you finish your final project and then an error appears
Or do you get a client revision and you think there will be only two rounds of revision
Then you get more revisions and you think they are good clients so I'll do another round
And then it finally ends and it might crash and stop working
Then it becomes final final
And then you start uploading the final jpeg for sand health
We have all done it
What's going on friends My name is Chris Yes it is
In this episode we're going to talk about light painting
One of my favorite techniques for car photography is using natural light
Then I will show you
How to create such
an image Alright
Then before we get to the
steps what is light painting
Actually when you set your camera on a tripod
And go for long exposure
And in that frame the light sources are placed
Then you can paint with lig
So people usually illuminate an objec
They do this to create art from that light source
For special car photography
We highlight many parts of the car
Use this light source
And then we will put those pictures together
Let's talk about going for light painting
You don't need much at all
You need a tripod
A camera body
The third one is a lens
The next is some kind of light source
And in our case we had the light well on that G-wagon
But you don't need a selfie stic
This was just an extra piece
So the work became a bit easier
Before you start shooting
I will give you a tip for shooting at night
If you want to shoot during the day
Then you will have to use some kind of ND
But I have always seen that it does not lead to good results
It looks really good at night
Okay now the fun part
We need to actually go there and start shooting
Then you'll need a location and a good running car
Any car can be driven but it's not necessarily a good one
It could also be a bad car but the photo might still turn out good
In this example we have an ice cream
truck in front of an Arctic White G
We will use the wagon that's really it
It's a unique combination
Now you need to find a composition that suits your taste
And then people will have to put it on a tripod
And be careful that you tripod is
Do not move at all
And you will think "Oh poet I can do that "
Don't move it at all
An ice garage is one side and
a car is on the other side
And we are going to take our first base pot
In this example we have the headlight and
Ice garage is exposed
And this was going to be our base level
Now for camera security
If you are an athlete runner
Then maybe five seconds or maybe two seconds
It will be fine for you
You can just walk through the frame
But I'm a bit slow
We are going to take many photos
You are trying to do it the hard way
It shines on different parts of the car from its light source
Highlighting So my second photo
For my second layer I am going to the car
We can start moving our frame so that the frame
Highlight the rim light a bit more
And start lighting up this car Then what you are about to do
We want to illuminate the different parts of the car with this light source
Capture a few more frames for highlighting
I always highlight the wheels You can see the wheels up close
You must create a circular motion by standing on the wheel
Highlight the back part of the Homy series We have a complete frame
We do this where we do not expose it to a light source
We just said break so that the snow or your place doesn't get a red break
We also create a frame where we take the light source
They place it right under the car so that the bottom part can be illuminated
And then I saw some small parts through the frame like a jo
I want to light up all those rooms if there's a vaccine
I can see those shots and then organize them so tha
Later I can bring those pictures into Photoshop
So it starts with this picture where we took our base
We set up a shot for the ice grind in the headlights and background
We start looking at those pictures
We have our first exposure
This is really feeling very good
As you can see there is a light burning in the sky
I will show you how to mass it later
And then there's our brake light behind us
They really look very good
I wanted to show you an example
When the light was actually licking that part of the car
The one we are trying to highlig
You will not want to use this shavi
As you can see here
The light is actually sucking the rubber off the wheel
And we really can't use it later
Because the exposure will not be the same
I apologize to my neighbor
He made a decision
This is the same as when I have dinner at 4 PM on Wednesday
It feels like I'm doing this
Oh this is my job
I watched my neighbor's YouTube video during the night
I relieve tension by vacuuming
There is an exposure under the car
I like using it because it makes the car look very good
As you can see here
This car has a single wheel in front and there is some softness around the tire and rim
We could not make the car
We were told not to do it and it's obvious that it's very cold outside
Then it's one of the things you'll have to live with
But I just want to say that it's Moody
Here is another picture of the car's front lighting
I think it's looking really good
And this is our photo
Then I'm going to the light room
I have selected and arranged my favorite photos
And I am going to create a new folder
I'm going to the final
Selects
And we are going to the image format
We will select the original so you get the actual raw files
So that you can stack them later
It's just my process again
I like to work in the same way
There are probably many different ways to do it
This is the way that feels right to me
Follow whatever process works for you in Photoshop for stacking later
I am going to start my sequence with a custom name sequence
Then we have a Mercedes G-Wagon
Okay Photoshop
is expensive
We are going into the file
We are going into the script
We are going to load the files into the stack
This is the method by which you will be able to mask an image according to your desire
You are about to browse the folder you just created
We are going to the final
I try to make sure that your tripod doesn't budge even a little for any reason
Let me try to align the source image automatically
In this way they will all be properly aligned
And it will take us 9 000 years to load it
And we are going to start masking some parts of this car
Okay
We are going to the first image from the base
Our next take is our brake light
Then let's mask it
Recreate a mask
We are going to flip the mask so that we can paint it in the red glow
Wow This feels good
This feels really good
Then this is the next close-up of the actual symbol
So we're going to do a quick masking on that symbol
And when you mask it I'll show you the difference
This is what makes the difference in raising the front part of the car and catching those details
This looks much better
It is here that the finer details will come to the forefront
You can play with your mask again to make it a bit better
I think it's looking really good
Let's look at it from every angle
This feels really good
I am really happy
Our final composition is just eight images put together
And then we can bring it back to the late room and give our final great
What we are going to do now
Then this is our
final composition Obviously
It will take me more than 10 minutes to put it all together
And the ground in front of the car doesn't look very good
It might be that I actually sent it to a photo editor
And I will clear the snow in front of it so that it looks even better
To be honest I would hire someone for this job on 5A
Okay this is a very lovely final image
This is a very simple technique that is very effective
If you people use this technique please let me know
Track your shots and I will try my best to comment on them
It's always fun to see what you all end up making after watching tutorials like this
If you want to know about the tools I used I have provided links to all of them below
If you want to do this on a smaller budget I've also included some more affordable options to achieve similar results
Thank you very much to Mercedes Benz for inviting us to play with all their super fun cars in Gimmli
It includes this Arctic White Wagon which is really my dream car
Also please leave your dream car comment below
I say no I shouldn't melt
I really like this car I like it very much
I don't want to give it back I want it
I'm just going to get the key Where is the key
Oh do you know what would actually be helpful
Each of you watches this video a thousand to ten thousand times
And perhaps perhaps I have something like that
The advertising fee is required for the down payment
Then if you people can do it like you are working
And then you can mute me but my video is still running
Like I know it will eat up all your data
And you will have to pay extra money and other similar things
But I will send you a photo of my Jeep
This is very foolish
Hey hey
