I just put a sourdough in the oven, so we have time for a quick lunch date.
About 35 minutes.
There's two spots that are close by, we're gonna see which one she wants.
Bun Khae.
Bun Khae Kalabong.
Bun Khae.
Bun Khae, she knows, it's a great dish.
There's a brand new spot that sells a fish cake from Northern Vietnam in Hanoi, but she
don't want to try that today, even though I want to try it today, that's okay.
We'll get the Bun Khae Rodong, which is amazing.
I know it's fantastic and she's craving it, but we gotta move.
Timer's set for 40 minutes, we'll be right back, and we'll go get our, pull our sourdough
bread out of there.
Oh, let me give you a peek what it looks like before.
That's probably a good idea, right?
Ooh, see it, see it, see it.
This vendor is fantastic.
Something my wife doesn't get to eat often, so I understand why she wants it.
Whoa, you know what?
We are almost out of the wet season, I'll tell you that.
It's getting hot now.
Dang.
I felt it yesterday.
Yesterday I was driving with Jadie, I was just passing out.
At the end of the day, I was so tired.
When you drive during the dry season, it can knock you out quick.
Luckily, this place is pretty close, so it should take us 10 minutes to get there, 15
minutes to eat, 10 minutes to come back, 35 minutes all in, 40 minutes should be right
on time.
I saw this place, too.
I saw the machine they have in the back.
They make the jacquard.
Oh, really?
They have the blender to make the yeosam.
I don't know if they just use it to blend the fish bones, or if they make the jacquard
too, but I assume they do.
Because the jacquard there is different, it's not like a normal style.
Somebody waits for you, da-da-da-da-dun-dun-dun.
Would you say that bun cha ro-dam is your favorite northern dish?
Yeah.
It is, huh?
I did not try a lot of the northern dish, but that one and bun cha tops here.
Oh, they dropped their vegetables.
Oh, that's, oh, it's corn.
Oh, that's okay.
It's still okay.
I would say that the bun cha ro-dam is my favorite northern soup, but my favorite northern
dish is bun cha.
Right here, right?
Yeah.
Okay.
Do you want bun or banh da?
Bun.
Bun?
Yeah, I like bun.
Yeah, bun for me, too.
Bun?
Yeah.
Michael loves this dish, too.
He loves seafood.
Yeah.
He loves it.
He loves fish.
He loves seafood.
And this is one of the best.
You're getting one of my gate-kept spots right now.
Are you feeling the Christmas spirit?
Yeah.
How about you?
Yeah, more and more.
This dish is awesome, too, because we get pickled bamboo, which is top tier, and some
baby mustard leaf.
What do you think you like better, the fried fish or the cha ca?
Fried fish.
Yeah.
Fried fish is better.
This one is the best thing here.
Mm.
No.
This dish need this.
Need it?
I don't even think it needs it.
I think the burrata is the best thing here.
And the fried fish.
Set a timer for 40 minutes on the bread, and it's got 21 minutes left.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
We'll be okay.
Although, I think the bread's going to take longer.
It's a big loaf, so even if the timer goes off, I'm not too worried.
I think we got another 10 minutes easy after it.
Ooh, that looks good.
Ooh.
Yo, that's a big bowl, too.
Ooh, and now I'm jealous.
But it's my turn.
Come on.
Hooray.
So much fried fish on this bowl today.
And the fish cake, the back hat.
This is like a spongy vegetable.
Water celery.
And that creamy broth.
All right.
Let's take some bamboo.
A jolly Christmas.
Guoba.
I might add some chili, too.
We'll see.
Oh, yeah.
This is so nice.
Yo-ho, the mistletoe.
That'd be the best it's ever been.
It's really good.
Mm.
It's so good.
You want more bread?
No, I'm good.
That's good.
Very good.
Yes.
It's so good.
It's just top tier.
Top, top, top tier.
The broth is, like, so creamy.
But there's no fat in it.
Just the fish bones.
I need more.
I thought it is spicy, but it's not spicy.
Mm.
And the fish fillets are so moist.
They're, like, crispy and dry, but they're also moist on the inside.
This is a freshwater fish, too.
But the flavor is so good.
To me, this is just one of the best bowls of anything in the city right now.
It's a banger.
And I think it's interesting that most people don't think there's, in the north, they don't
know they use a lot of dill in the soup.
So there's a lot of dill in the soup.
There's a lot of dill in this soup, too, which I love.
I'm very happy.
You're very happy?
Good.
I'm satisfied.
I missed this one yesterday.
This thing just reminds me of matzo ball soup.
It's very strange.
Oh, really?
Mm-hmm.
With the dill and the jackass, it kind of tastes like a matzo ball.
Do you think soup is a good day food or a bad day food?
I think good food is a good day.
That's why we fit each other.
I don't think every girl would think that.
Only, like, a good girl would think that.
I definitely think some girls who are all going to be, when they're dolled up, they
don't want to be slurping.
They're lean and over-esteemed.
Mm-hmm.
Oh, really?
Yeah.
Initially, I thought there was some rice in here, but I don't think there is.
I think it's just pureed bone.
I think this is my favorite soup right now in the city.
I think this is my favorite spot.
And it's just this little family spot, and they probably serve 200 bowls a day or something.
But they could have a gigantic location.
You know, they could, if they wanted to, I don't know.
But they could definitely, this is good enough that thousands of people would eat this a
day.
This spot is, like, deep in a neighborhood in D7, too.
So it's kind of quiet.
It's nice back here.
I love the neighborhood.
Yeah, the neighborhood's really good right here.
People keep asking me about the number one spot I recommend to eat.
You know, people are like, this is it.
But I don't want you coming here.
Don't come here.
It's small.
We can't have too many people coming here.
Good to go.
Freaking amazing.
Too much time we got left.
Two minutes left.
We're doing good.
Let's go check the bread.
Look at this dog sitting in the water here.
He's a beautiful doggy.
He's hot.
He's sitting in the puddle.
You okay?
You just sitting in the water?
Huh?
You hot?
Oh, you were so cute and beautiful, and now you're so dirty.
But you're still sweet.
You're still a little sweetie.
That dog is such a cute little dog.
Look at that guy.
Oh, she cute.
She's adorable.
This dog across the street is a beautiful dog.
But he's hot.
And he's just sitting in that little puddle over there.
Gonna try to cool down.
He's back in that puddle.
He's sitting right back in there.
I like you.
I like you emotional on the couch yesterday.
Anytime.
Look at the cute girls.
The timer went off about three minutes ago.
We're gonna see what it looks like.
Hopefully, we have a beautifully baked loaf of sourdough.
And not a burnt-ass piece of disappointment.
What do you think, honey?
You think we got a beautiful loaf of sourdough or just sadness?
Looks good from the beginning.
Looks pretty good from the beginning.
Yes.
I'm pretty confident.
You're pretty confident?
Yeah.
We're gonna find out.
Wow.
Smells like bread.
Doesn't smell burnt.
It smells dark, but it doesn't smell burnt.
Ooh, we're looking at some bread.
Ooh, look at that.
Let's see it.
Oh, my monkey.
Oh, wow.
Oh, my monkey uncle.
Look at that beautiful thing.
See what the bottom feels like.
Okay.
That's gonna work, baby.
Ow.
Now we gotta let it cool.
What a wonderful date.
Quick lunch date with my wife.
Come back for a glorious loaf of sourdough.
Freshly baked.
The kids are gonna be pumped.
We'll bring some butter home.
So, lady, did you like that meal?
I loved it.
Would you go back?
Definitely.
What would you rate it on a point?
9.5.
I agree.
I'm reluctant to make this video and promote that place because I really, really, really like it.
It's probably, overall, my favorite soup in the city at the moment.
So, hopefully, this video doesn't go too viral.
You know, if you're traveling here, I highly recommend it.
I highly recommend it.
But don't, don't, don't go too much.
Don't let people go too much.
We need that spot.
Unless they're gonna open a new location.
Maybe if they get flooded, they'll open something bigger.
They only open for breakfast and lunch, by the way.
They usually sell out before 2 o'clock.
So, if you're going, be aware of that.
I would not try to go there at 1 o'clock and get a bowl.
You just might not get anything, and it'd be an extreme disappointment.
That particular soup, Bun Ka Rodom, I think I've only had it two or three times.
So, I can't say, in general, how much I love that dish.
But that particular vendor is top tier.
Absolutely excellent.
It is a 9.5.
Easily.
Yeah, it's fantastic.
So, if you want to drive D7, if you like fish, if you like dill, you will freaking love that thing.
So, it's highly recommended.
