Hello everyone welcome to another video
Take a look in this video we're going to solve
this viral super numerical expression
And look here the answer isn't 10 is it
So we have 50 divided by five halves
multiplied by 2
At first look here our brain
already wants to cancel
this 2 with that 2 Then we'll do 50 divided by 5
It'll be 10 right
So it'll be 50 divided by 5
which comes out to 10
We'll simplify everything right here
And we arrive at 10
But our answer isn't 10
That's not the correct step-by-step approach
for solving this expression
Look here we could
also consider solving
it this way: 50 divided by 5 is 10
10 divided by 2 times 2
Here it simplifies and gives 10
Isn't that right too
And then you're able to solve it
What's the answer to this math problem

So check this out 50 divided by 5 halves
times 2
Following PEMDAS right
We'll use PEMDAS here the
algorithm that guides us shows
us this method and gives us
the direction for solving it
a numerical expression using PEMDAS
Here division and multiplication appear
Multiplication and division have
equal precedence Division and multiplication have
the same priority
and are evaluated from left to right
From left to right
First comes the division
So let's solve the division first
Let's solve 50
divided by five halves
Here we have a division
volving a fraction So here's the thing
when we have a division involving a fraction
we keep the first one
We keep here
the first fraction which is 50 This
50 is 50 over 1 And we
invert the numerator here
Inverting the operation as well
since the denominator is involved
So a over b divided by c over d
equals a over b
multiplied by d over c
Notice look here the numerator and
denominator have
swapped places because we've
also reversed the operation
So we're left with 50 to 1
Let's give a numerical example here
So two-thirds divided by three-fourths
We keep the first one
Invert the second one here
Notice look
keep the first one and multiply
by swapping the numerator and the denominator
So two-thirds divided
by three-fourths is
2 times 4 8 divided by 3 times 3 9
Eight ninths That was just an example
Take a look at another example
Very similar to
our situation here
So 20 divided by two-thirds
Keep the first one which is 20 That 20 is over 1
Invert the numerator
with the denominator reversing the operation here
Twenty divided by two-thirds equals
twenty times three which is sixty
Divided by 1 times 2 which is 2
60 divided by 2
equals 30
So we looked at some examples
Then according to PEMDAS
first parentheses
then exponents multiplication and division
followed by addition and subtraction
We have no parentheses
no exponents no
powers We have
multiplication and division
We also don't have addition and subtraction
Multiplication and division have equal
precedence whichever comes first is solved
first First we'll handle what appears first
e division
It will be 50 divided by
5 halves
as we just saw a moment ago
Here we invert the numerator
By flipping the denominator
we invert the operation here
So 50 divided by five halves
is 50 multiplied by two fifths
All of that multiplied by
2 Now we multiply 50 by 2
That makes 100
All of that over 5
multiplied by 2
100 times 2 is 200
200 divided by
5 or 100 divided
by 5
which gives20
20 times 2
Or 100 times 2 which gives 200
200 divided by 5
And 100 divided by 5 equals 20 Then
20 times 2 is 40 And
that is the answer
our super numerical
expression
