And number two i'm going to show you a resource that's going to help you talk like you live in korea
Yep, i'm not kidding. So those two are going to be covered in this video. So let's get right into it
The first things first, do you see the slide here and do you like the new format?
Yes
Well, i'm using
This ebook here on on my right
Speak korean anywhere a lot of you already have this book if you already have it take it out and let's go through the book
Together because i'm gonna go through each one together so you can repeat after me
If you don't have it
You can grab it using the link in my bot not bio link in the description here
or you can go to my website right here because
this
book you guys is so helpful and a lot of people told me that it's been
A lifesaver for their trip to korea or when they're trying to talk to korean friends. It covers
280 practical korean phrases and as you can see here
It's just updated to its third edition
Meaning you'll have brand new videos brand new phrases
Everything is just all up to date. I'm, so so excited for you guys to see it all
Um, it's my favorite book. I have five books together, but this just is so dear to my heart
So let's go straight into it
Um, so basically the format of this book if you look like it is really organized into chapters
Like if it's common phrases, you're gonna see phrases with
English on the left and then korean and then you're gonna see romanization and you'll also hear me
Talk if you like click on click here for the video i'll pop up and then i'll pronounce each phrase for you
And then i'll also share some tips
Um as I go through the video, I mean the phrases
Okay, and
Today in my youtube video i'll just go through this chapter, but there's like so many other chapters too like
dating phrases coffee shop phrases how to make friends in korean like
You name it because it's 280 phrases, right?
so let's go back to where we were so common phrases because these are like
Something that you have to remember and I say it like it's go-to phrases if you know your view
A couple of go-to phrases you'll always know what to say, right? You're like, hey, I just finished eating
What do I say? Oh in korea you say
Or
Like you met somebody for the first time like how do I say? Hello?
Like annyeonghaseyo these are like common day-to-day phrases and I call it go-to phrases
You guys don't have to think about it
Once you remember them it's always here and you can always use them in any situation
And these that i'm gonna go over are 16
Essential ones. So ready? You're gonna actively speak and repeat after me
I'll try to cover both polite and casual so you know what to say to like polite situation
And casual situation, okay
So let's dive in right here
Oh and let me get rid of my website here because everything you'll see it in the description, too
So first thing wait, are we in the right chapter? Yes common phrases
Very first phrase is good night. Assuming you already know how to say. Hello, which is annyeonghaseyo, right?
Good night
Formally you can say
So if you know how to read korean read korean if you don't you can read the romanization
This is a little too big for me. So it's like keep going to the back
Well, I want it to look cute for you guys, but yeah
and then
Next we have casual is
So these are to your friends who are the same age as you
Here means well
That's verb of to sleep. So well sleep
So we got
You're repeating after me, yes, try not to look at the next line. I don't know how to cover it
So just hope you understand that
Number two is see you next time
That is
That's next a is the marker for time here so next let's consider time so
And if you drop the yo, it becomes casual so see
That's to your friends if you drop the yo
Yes
And number three essential one too. You're shopping you're browsing in the streets of korea
You're like, where is the bathroom?
Excuse me
Oh
That's bathroom
Where is
Can be also changed to the casual version, which is yeah
Well, that's to your friends only so
And next is what is this
this
ego
What is?
So look here
So you're like
Like scissors there are scissors
You ask what is this
Right, and they'll answer you back and number five good cool or sounds good
Well, it means everything when something's good or you're like sounds good
We say this all the time then you probably have heard of this
So you're like hey, I'm gonna go watch a movie today
Sure sounds good
Right or like hey want to travel to korea this october?
Or drop the yo your friends asking you
Okay, that's how you answer it so good cool or sounds good all of them
And number six, I like nouns to plug in the noun that you like
noun plus
So, what do you like
Mangoes you can plug that in
I like mangoes and on the bottom
I don't like now and you just have to put an in front of it. I means not
Usually when you choose not to do something, it's not that you're unable to
It's just like you're choosing not to like it right so then you put the negate not I mean not not
So
Same word there
I don't like coke
So just like that you plug in whatever noun
You don't like plug it in there and if you like something
And that's when your vocab shines
So the more vocab, you know, the more fun you'll have plugging into these patterns
Isn't that so cool? So if you know a lot of vocab, you'll be able to make more sentences
Right because phrases just give you phrases but patterns like this so good for
practicing your vocabulary
And then there's that stronger expression. I don't like it
Like you almost like hate it, but you're strongly saying I dislike that
Okay, so that is
So if I ask you guys hey want to go eat live octopus because a lot of people do eat that in korea, right
So in like sashimi and live octopus and you're like ----. Oh, I don't like that. No
It's almost like a strong. No, too
Okay, so that's all eight of them. Are we following along?
To all eight phrases so far and that's already halfway
Let's go to the next page and then go through each one together one at a time
number nine
long time no see
And you say
I'm trying my best to repeat and slow down
for longer ones
right
And eo can be casual too if you turn it into
To your friends
And next one congratulations
well, I have to
Do this for you? What about the congratulations?
Wait, what about this?
I love using the sound effect you guys can you
you know, um
Play with the play with me with these sound effects
Are you also enjoying my sound effect?
congratulations formal
Have you heard of the birthday song in korean they use this
Me
And then you plug in whatever whoever you're celebrating and that's the song like dear
That's the formal version and we have polite
Oh
And can you guess the casual
What is it?
Just drop the yo, basically in korean
Oftentimes it's just when you drop the yo like 90
That will give you casual not 100 of the times like sometimes we have to change the whole word
but
90 of the time so casual will be
And number 11
I have now
What do we have?
I have
Time like I have lots of time if that's what you want to say
That's time
I have time well
Really busy schedule for me. I don't have time but I could make time for our lovely people
Um, so we have
You know, this could be a question too if you put your tone up like this
Do you have time
Yeah
And I could maybe plug in color
Do you have the do you have a green one, you know, sometimes we ask for colors when we shop
Do you have it in green?
Yeah
And next one is I don't have noun. So that's the opposite of
phrase 11
Is that I have something
Is when you don't have it
The c carries over to next door
So if you don't have time
Right
Or you can say like boyfriend
Girlfriend
If you have a boyfriend, what do you say
And you'll also hear sometimes that
Subject markers are attached to this expression. Like I have something I don't have something like
So that
Totally you can do that
You can attach the subject markers with the fixed expressions like I have something I don't have something
Something but you may omit the subject markers in day-to-day speech, so I just dropped it for you guys
So it's easy for you. All right, then we're almost coming to the coming to the end
number 13
Well k-drama line
Really?
Jinja
You've heard of it. If you've heard of it, give me big nod. Give me a big big nod. I see you over there
Yes. Yeah, I see you too
Jinja
Big eyes
And that would be your casual version
To your friends
What what happened?
Someone stole your car. What?
No way
So that's how you can say it
And number 14. What are you up to? What are you up to?
So what from our previous page we learned is
Then do to do is and I turned that into present tense here
And you drop the yo is
And that would be casual version of it
And this is a really great conversation starter when you're texting someone in korea
It's kind of like how are you almost like what are you up to?
And they're gonna answer you back. Hey, like i'm chilling at home
And you're like
You want to play with me and they're like
That's how we can start our conversation many times like more is how you're gonna start the conversation
Especially on the phone or like on the phone like this, too
And that leaves us with two questions or two statements
Wow, I had so much coffee today and that's why i'm so hyper do you feel
My energy. I hope you're keeping up with this
So energetic
I I just like imagine you guys feeling my energy. It's a good thing right good thing to feel the energy as you
So number 15 we got thank you for the meal
So this is before eating the food is in front of you and you're like, hey like
I i'm about to eat like thank you so much. Whoever made this food. Thank you so much
And that kind of like signals everybody. Okay ready to eat. Let's dive. Let's eat it
um, let's
Let's eat all together. So here the phrase goes
Child remember child means well
You see the food
And everybody kind of like says that
Especially like when someone's cooking for you
Then
After you're done eating. This is what we say like. Oh my god. It was such a good meal. Thank you so much
At a little bow i'm so full that was so good
How you guys
So we just learned all 16
must or not must know common phrases in korean
And I hope you watch this video one more time because I want these phrases to go in here
And become your go-to phrases. So when you're done eating you're like, I know what to say
Or when you're like hey
Like i'm about to go to bed and I have like a korean roommate and you know what to say like
And you're like in this shopping
Street, where is the bathroom? Where is it? Oh, I know how to say that. So you're like
I'm gonna be so proud of you. We're like
You know that feeling is amazing when you just know and it's here and you're able to use it in real life
That's the best. That's how you do it
