Welcome to a new Harry's Garage video and today's car is the Porsche Cayenne Turbo
e-hybrid coupe with GT package. Quite a mouthful but this is the ultimate Cayenne available here
in Europe and UK and before you shout well we're not in Europe anymore the UK government decided
during the Brexit negotiations all new cars on sale in the UK will match EU regulations. The
GT coupe which doesn't have the hybrid element in it but I wanted to get this car in because this
platform for this car will go right across the VW group and it will also appear in the new
Lamborghini Urus SE hybrid about to go on sale in 2025 and in the Bentley Continental GT that also
gets this drivetrain. So it's an important car for the VW group it will be their ultimate powertrain
now the W12 has gone and things like that that never appeared in the Porsche. It is a powerful
unit 740 horsepower for this example up to 800 horsepower I believe in the Lamborghini Urus SE
but they haven't announced all the numbers so proper quick car 190 mile an hour Cayenne Turbo
my goodness quite a thing let's go and have a closer look. Now this revised version of the Cayenne
Turbo it takes a bit of spotting when you see it for the first time what was different over the
previous version but it does get revised headlights and it gets a slightly different treatment here a
bit more open here around these grilles. As I say this car has the GT package on it and at the side
you start to see the changes that brings to the car. First of all you get these new 22 inch lighter
weight forged wheels you get the CCM brakes as standard carbon brakes carbon door mirrors
a carbon roof as well you can't see underneath but there is some subtle suspension mods it's got
more camber at the front and then slight sill extensions this this is treatment is slightly
different on the Cayenne with the GT package look at the size of those tyres 315 35 by 22 wheels at
the back proper wide tyres oh you also get a slightly different treatment on this rear spoiler
these sort of winglets on it here but nowhere does it actually say GT package you do recognise it also
from the titanium exhaust at the back and you've paid a lot of money for the GT package so a
standard Cayenne 132,600 with the package 154,000 pounds as this car stands with a few extras on it
167,082 pounds quite a lot of money practicality is all there still the boot and under here
it's it's a bit more compact obviously all the leads here because the battery is placed in the
back and what I find interesting about that it actually changed how the car handles because
it's much more rear biased weight than previous Cayennes because of the 25 kilowatt hour battery
in the back of it reasonable space in the back nice small wheel in it the big changes
with this revised Cayenne are basically on the interior but we'll have a look at that
when we take it outside quick look at the engine not a lot to see just says V8 which is good
so what this car is about is the driving let's take it outside now
now this is where this latest Cayenne looks different in here you get a dash I think I might
actually just wait everything up but you press start engine on this there we go get a little
tune Porsche and because this car basically starts in electric mode it's all silent it's
nicely trimmed I do like this Alcantara interior it's on the dash as well and it's it just has a
different look it has sort of taken sort of graphics but I like how it's integrated it
doesn't sit proud of the dash it's enclosed in the dash so I quite like that and there's a few
extras in here which I didn't spot I've got in front of me obviously the three dials here rev
counter in the middle 36 miles of range at the moment on electric mode and I move my eye here
I've got the sensor screen but it's just integrated and it goes to black there until my
son Charlie got in I didn't realize there's another screen there because it it's blind to
the driver but when you're sitting in the passenger seat you can then see the screen there
that passenger display is an extra 1061 pounds but it does allow sort of control of sound you
can have outside video or tv or whatever so there is a number of options on there
seems reasonably price really a thousand pounds unlike Ferrari's second screen other things just
different vents very efficient here completely gone you've got gear change toggle up here and
if I slide this away phone in there it's wireless charging hiding in there little thing there this
sort of moves and then there's a smallish glove box in there big deep door pockets and also
these big grab handles just what you get on all KN from the start they always had these great big
grounds for passengers go wow and it's all getting a bit hairy yeah and then in the back
I think they're a bit mean the seats they're sort of individual seats but I've had the three cars
in I ought to mention now when this car was here I also have the new Range Rover Sport SV on test
and it briefly crossed over with the latest Aston Martin DBX 707 because it's got the revised
interior and it's been fascinating stepping one to the other I will illuminate more in that later
in this video but it's not as plush back there so we say the Range Rover Sport or even the DBX
personal decent space I can happily sit behind myself but not quite as luxurious as those other
two what else we got yeah old style glove box yeah cup holders are just here yeah all very
practical and then as I say in front of us 36 mile range I've done several overnight charges
it doesn't take that long to charge actually but it's about 43 44 miles I'm getting from the
battery which is pretty good just some of the other extras on here I think Porsche are slightly
cheeky this is their ultimate kn turbo and you have to pay extra well arctic gray 1,850 pounds
426 for the design of the wheels and this rear axle steering is still an option 1,325
Porsche dynamic chassis control that should not be extra at this cost point but 2,546
so there we go that's the interior on this let's get going and all I do is do that
and it always starts in e-power mode so electric power you just ease away
but let's get out of here let's go find some better roads I do like the way it sets off
in electric it's something very relaxing very easy when you first leave home and then you go
it's so easy though you just flick it on here and I'm now in hybrid mode there it is all displayed
everything else is normal but that will just wake the engine up and what I quite like is when you
move between them you just get the choice well I've got I'm in hybrid auto I could go on e-hold
or e-charge it would actually boost the electric battery as you're driving along should you need
to you hold it for when you're in a city but I'm going to put it in here put the dampers
down to normal I'm now in sport might want to squirt up the hill here we go
yeah as you'd expect 740 horsepower it gets a good old move on up there interestingly when we
had the three cars together it got slightly left behind on the initial surge that both the Aston
and the Range Rover did step away from there quicker than this did but then it seems to build
power and it's well worth revving around to its yeah max power is at 6,000 rpm but it seems to
build like a sort of race engine rather than all about torque and you don't have a massive sort of
infill of electric power I think it's 176 brake horsepower the electric motor but the dominating
feel of it is actually horsepower rather than electric torque which I quite like actually suits
the character of the car and I did weigh this car and it's heavier than Porsche said it should be
we came out at 2,560 kilos so yeah going moving from KN GT to GT package on your KN Turbo and
e-hybrid has added around 300 kilos but when I get to the conclusion I think it's added some
significant benefits though tested on my noisy bit of road and the nice thing being hybrid
electric like now I can see the engine is just knocked out I'm just obviously on electric power
at the moment quiet 68 70 decibels this car so very easy proper mild muncher very relaxed driving
I can feel the power going to the front wheels through the steering I give it a big plus for
that and I think the ride quality of this is exceptional this is 190 mile an hour a KN Turbo
and yet it is easy down here as all sorts of other cars it's got extreme tyres on it really
you know 325 at the back 315 at the back and yet down here as relaxed as you could ever wish it to
be and even if I just put it is left it in sport dampers here even that isn't too bad that is a
very usable a damper position for UK if I put it into sports plus yeah I'm starting to feel that
that is the German road setting UK is normal to sport but sport is definitely usable so even
though it's this crazy horsepower mad forward I think it's 3.6 they say it's 0-62 probably does
it quicker because Porsche always sort of here on the safe side with their acceleration claims
very easy much more relaxed not as extreme as you might expect it to be love the steering as well
the steering wheel and Alcantara lovely feel small wheel relatively simple and so good to
just flick through these modes just with this little wheel down here then it shows up the dash
which one you're in quite a good sound as well isn't it definitely v8 once I'm in sport mode
as I am now over this bump let's see what it does here absorbs it the great thing with something
like a KN or these these SUVs they've got the wheel travel you're not even though it's lower
by 10 mil with the GT package you've still got plenty of wheel travel for a road as tested as
this fantastic round there it's got roll control it's got active anti-roll bars on this it's got
rear steer so it just points in as dynamic as you'd ever imagine a KN GT to be right a quick
summary of what I've found I've had this car for a few days and likes and dislikes starting
the dislikes I suppose the dislike I mean it's not a it's not a bad looking car
but it it's sort of dramatic rather than stylish so they've they've evolved haven't they KN
they look quite iresting when they first appeared but I suppose we got used to the shape and it's
been gently honed that Porsche have done that typical thing of continuing honing it this is
the third generation to where they are now and it has a purpose it's instantly recognisable as a
KN but it's it somehow lacks some sort of style to it but I do think it looks good in coupe
and it's not that compromised on space it's still decent sized boot space okay in the back
yeah my other dislike is just the rear seat comfort compared to the other three cars
perfectly adequate just depends how often carrying adults in the back whether it's
kids and stuff and then it's fine another dislike the weight isn't it I mean it's inevitable
there's a weight penalty by moving to hybrid the nice thing is it's actually made it much
closer to 50 50 it might even be heavier on the back I can't find the weight distribution
but when we get to the more dynamic corners as we will in a moment I love the balance of it it
doesn't feel as nose heavy as KN normally feel so there is a positive to all that additional
weight it's more even distributed and it's low down because they can place the battery right
down low so it hasn't affected it quite as bad as you might imagine it's just a niggle that
300 kilos heavier it should be 300 kilos heavier let's try it through here and I can quickly go to
manual just by touching the paddle if I wanted to hold it in manual then I just use that down there
and I can have it held in manual and through here oh good now there you see now I know
yeah there's proper power going to the rear as you can see forget all I said about the weight
put it through some corners and it feels very dynamic and I love the way it squats and goes
and that sort of rear I can feel it really testing the rear tyres out so yeah moving on to the likes
the performance and how it's deployed it's not dominated in torque as I said it's horsepower
it suits the Porsche suits the car and yet it's got that super relaxing mode when you first step
so I love the two types of performance it does to efficiency extraordinary compared to previous
KN GTs and well turbos let's have a look what I've done with this car yeah I've I had a meeting to do
this morning in Oxford I came back here then I've done driving out here so I've done 54 miles today
dual carriageways and stuff 44.3 mpg just don't be silly KN turbos do not do that
and also if I go down to I just want to see efficiency on electric yes there we are from
today 50.6 kilowatts per 100 miles roughly two miles per kilowatt which is flipping good going
actually that's good for a plug-in hybrid type of car if I look over the time I've had it 150 miles
31.3 mpg massive improvement in efficiency by going for the hybrid and I don't think there's
that many downsides to it really because you you gain this additional pure electric mode
for what you lose perhaps on performance if this thing was 300 kilos lighter
and then you've also got the infill with the electric which is another bonus
and those changes they've made with the GT package to the suspension setup the extra camber
at the front things something is working magic on this it's it is enjoyable car to actually
sort of thread down a road like this you will put it into sport you will enjoy it you won't
just float around in in normal hybrid mode because there is pleasure to be had with the way this
behaves and another positive brakes are tremendous powerful solid brake pedal no thought
that it's regening just exemplary brake feel on this car another one it coasts you don't get any
sort of regen it was sort of braking it as soon as you take your foot off the acceleration I'm
doing now it's like I've knocked it into neutral it's a Porsche thing and apparently it is more
efficient that way than having the regen but on electric power when you're in hybrid mode
you don't get quite as much go if I had it in pure electric it's quicker on electric if I put
it in the hybrid well the engine will soon kick in you don't get the same level performance but
in electric mode you can be up to motorway speeds no trouble at all gets another few marks for
practicality being a hat space easy fold down seats I used to fix everywhere I like the dash
layout I like the simplicity and how you got that extra screen it all makes sense very easy
once you get to know it's not a car you have to do lots of crazy things through the screen no
I can control the climate down here just as I want I love it around here out of here
so conclusion well it was really interesting as I say having the three cars together because it
really showed you which each car what it could do best the most exciting I suppose down this road
if you're looking for ultimate dynamics Aston dbx is pretty damn special boisterous
but you know it's tuned it's not as relaxed when it's just cruising as this car is
but when you're on it it's very exciting and it has a it slips into oversteer
more often than you might expect and it's four-wheel drive but it's just how they've
done the torque distribution this doesn't do that quite as much but still feels really agile but
I suppose dbx just at the top but then there's a price it's over £200,000 it's probably a
yeah £80,000 premium over this car so that's yeah if money's no object then go for dbx but
money is an object this is a really interesting space and if you're asking me which one of the
three would I buy well I'd have to have this because I just love the hybrid nature of this
having lived with a hybrid before we had the range rover hybrid you will be amazed how many
miles you'll do on pure electric and then you've got the added bonus of a 740 horsepower mad kn
at the end of it that don't have to worry about range and yeah you can just enjoy like every
cars we always have I do wonder now I mean it sounds expensive 154 but it's actually
easily the cheapest of those three and the tehon has gone right up in price I think a turbo s is
now 163,000 and the turbo gt 186,000 this is sitting 150,000 if you're on the fence whether
to go pure electric try something like this and I don't think you'll go pure electric for a few
years yet because they're just efficient and it charges quickly no downside so I think there's a
very interesting powertrain for the vw group going forward suits this car I'm not missing
previous kn gt as much as I expected yes that probably has the dynamic edge but it's flipping
marginal and yet this one has the bonus of the pure electric running cruising around as well as
the mad performance as well so there you go that's my conclusion on the turbo kn e-hybrid
with gt package what a mouthful but uh hope you enjoyed the video if you have well keep
watching keep subscribing more videos coming along very soon
