How to get a big sound on the violin

Hi guys, this is Joy again. Today we are going to talk about how to
play violin with a nice big and resonant sound. In my over 23 years of experience,
a lot of beginner students, they focus a lot to having the left hand on the right pitch.
However, I wish also a lot of beginner students will spend enough time to produce nice and big
A lot of beginner students tend to play very good in tune but with a kind of shrill
whip sound or overly pressed.
So when I ask a lot of beginner students to balance it well, they're having a hard time
to understand exactly what to do. So this is a method that I came up with
and I have great success with. It's called circle motion exercise.
The way it works is, you see, when you produce big sound, it's not just putting a lot of weight.
When I ask students to put more weight, they tend to overdo it like this kind of sound which we
don't clearly want. So what you do is you, I'm going to turn myself, you circle your bow as
though you're making a big circle like that. You see? And this is the same motion that you
keep doing. Now, you put violin and you keep circling the motion and circle again.
And it ends up, starts with a very light weight and adds weight gradually and gets light again.
And now if you feel comfortable, now you do the reverse circling like that. You see that?
And then now you do on the violin with up bow. So it touches light and adds the weight gradually
and gets light again. So you keep circling on the string. And this is very effective. If you
patiently work on this one, four to five days, you will already see the result. Some people
see the result in the same day. It's up to you. So basically I do, I don't know if the camera is
capturing it well. So this is how it works. This is the violin and that's a circle motion that
your bow is doing. So that's where the string is. As soon as you hit, when you're circling this way,
down bow wise, touch it very lightly. And then where you keep circling, this is where the bow
gets really into the string and produces a nice big sound. And when you're at the end of this part,
your bow will get lighter and vice versa. So again, it's a circle motion. I know it may feel
a bit silly just to draw by yourself, drawing a big circle. But trust me, just practicing this
simple circle motion before playing on the string, it will help you to understand how it works.
Again, circle motion. And then you can play scales. And up bow. Light, light and heavy.
Yeah, this simple exercise will give you a strong sound as soon as day one. Yeah,
just trust me and try this one. So I was using our violin that if you want to find more about it,
