We'll go on the record. Good morning.
This is a deposition of former Secretary
Hillary R. Clinton conducted by the
House Committee on Oversight and
Government Reform. On July 23rd, 2025,
the Subcommittee on Federal Law
Enforcement unanimously voted to approve
a motion directing the committee to
authorize and issue a subpoena to former
Secretary Clinton for a deposition. I'm
going to note for the record that former
Secretary Clinton is not present. The
time is 10:05.
We are going to mark items for the
record. We will mark as exhibit one a
cover letter from Chairman Comr dated
August 5th, 2025. Enclosing the
deposition subpoena and email
confirmation from former Secretary
Clinton's attorney, David Kendall,
accepting the letter and the subpoena.
We will mark as exhibit two a letter
dated October 6, 2025 from Mr. Kendall
to Chairman Comr and ranking member
Garcia.
We will mark as exhibit three a letter
dated October 22nd, 2025 from Chairman
Comr to Mr. Kendall.
We will mark as exhibit 4 a letter dated
November 3rd, 2025 from Mr. Kendall to
Chairman Comr and Ranking Member Garcia.
We will mark as exhibit five a letter
dated November 21st, 2025 from Chairman
Comr to Mr. Kendall. We will mark as
exhibit six a letter dated December
10th, 2024 from Mr. Kindle to Chairman
Comr and Ranking Member Garcia.
We will mark as exhibit 7 the deposition
notice issued by the committee on
December 12th, 2025.
We will mark as exhibit 8 a letter dated
December 15, 2025 from Chairman Comr to
Mr. Kendall again urging his clients to
appear and referencing that failure to
appear will initiate the prospect of
contempt proceedings. The letter also
encloses the updated deposition subpoena
for today's date and email confirmation
from Mr. Kindle accepting the letter and
subpoena. We will mark as exhibit 9 the
deposition postponement notice issued by
the committee on December 16th, 2025.
We will mark as exhibit 10 a letter
dated January 3rd, 2026 from Mr. Kendall
to Chairman Comr and Ranking Member
Garcia.
We will mark as exhibit 11 a letter
dated January 8th, 2026 from Chairman
Comr to Mr. Kendall.
We will mark as exhibit 12 a letter
dated January 12th, 2026 from Mr.
Kendall to Chairman Comr.
We will mark as exhibit 13 a letter
dated January 13, 2026 from former
President William J. Clinton and former
Secretary Hillary R. Clinton to Chairman
Comr.
I will note that the time is now 10:07
a.m. and former Secretary Clinton has
still not appeared. Does the chairman
wish to add anything to the record?
>> Yes. Uh good morning. We're here today
for the deposition of former Secretary
Hillary Clinton and she did not appear.
Just like her husband, Secretary Clinton
is defying our duly authorized
congressional subpoena. The oversight
committee will also initiate contempt of
Congress proceedings against the former
Secretary of State for defying the law.
>> Does council for the minority wish to
add anything to the record?
>> Yes. Thank you. Committee Democrats
support cooperation with the committee
and believe that anyone knowledge of the
crimes of Epste and Maxwell or the
actions of their co-conspirators should
come forward and provide that
information to the committee. That
commitment flows directly from oversight
Democrats determination to pursue the
truth about the horrific crimes
committed by Jeffrey Epstein and
Maxwell. No matter where the facts lead
with today's proceeding, the majority
has relentlessly pursued Secretary
Clinton. The majority has taken no steps
to enforce the duly issued bipartisan
subpoena for the release of the full
Epstein files in the possession of the
Department of Justice. Nor has the
majority move to compel numerous other
witnesses with firstirhand knowledge of
Epstein's criminal enterprise, including
Epstein co-conspirator Delane Maxwell,
to appear before this committee. Adding
to these concerns is President Trump's
direction to his attorney general, the
Department of Justice, and the Federal
Bureau of Investigation, via a truth
social post to initiate a criminal
investigation into prominent Democrats,
including President Clinton, to distract
from his own close relationship with
Jeffrey Epste. And President Trump
likewise has for years famously and
repeatedly demanded that DOJ investigate
and prosecute Secretary Clinton.
President Trump's targeting of the
Clintons is part of a continuing pattern
in which President Trump has weaponized
the Department of Justice against his
perceived political enemies, including
among others, former FBI Director James
Comey, New York Attorney General Leticia
James, and most recently, Federal
Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell. Against
that backdrop, oversight Democrats have
grave concerns about the president's
publicly stated expectation that DOJ and
the FBI will incriminate leaders of the
opposition party, as well as the
president's demonstrated willingness to
use the nation's law enforcement
agencies to distract from his own
lengthy relationship and interaction
with Epste. Finally, yesterday the
committee received factual declarations
from former President Clinton and
Secretary Clinton regarding their
interactions with Jeffrey Epste. I'm
entering those declarations both dated
January 13, 2026 together as exhibit A
committee. Democrats reaffirm that this
investigation is not political and not
partisan. Its purpose is truth and
justice for the victims and survivors of
Jeffrey Epstein's horrific crimes.
>> And with that, we will conclude. Before
you before you go off the record, I I
just have a comment or two. Um I guess
my first com comment is more of a line
of a question. Uh do our Democrat
colleagues insist on the redactions that
they have previously insisted upon in
the
plethora and trove of records that and
documents that are being released or
were scheduled to be released. That
would be my first question. The second
one was is regarding uh Delane Maxwell.
Um
I I've gone to federal prison to depose
individuals. Is that which is that the
proposal that we go to to the prison to
depose her or is the proposal to
transport her here uh be marshal and let
her have her have a deposition before
us? Those are two questions that um
that come to mind when I heard your
statement. So that that those are things
that I I think I would like to have
answered. You don't have to answer them
now, but I hope that in the coming days
we might get an answer from uh the
ranking member of this committee. Thank
you.
>> And with that, we will conclude. It is
10:12 a.m. and we will go off the
record.
