Local Navy vet and Temple alum appears on Shark Tank

Well, they're the sweet treats with serious meaning. Teresa Black says she founded her company, Bonap Sweet, after being deployed away from her daughter seven years ago. Now, the local Navy veteran and Temple alum is taking her date sweetened chocolate company to the Shark Tank, hoping that one of them will bite. >> Bonap is Sweet is a company that makes date sweetened chocolate. And so that means zero added sugars. They're soyf free, gluten-free. >> Navy veteran Terresa Black lives in the Lehigh Valley. Her products are sold in Whole Foods, Sam's Club to Walmart around the US. And now she's taking her sweets to the Sharks on Shark Tank. She learned Christmas Eve that her business would be featured in Prime Time this month. >> So I was actually in Norway on a NATO mission when I found out and I was just like, what? Like I don't know. My heart just started pounding. Um it was it's super exciting. >> Did you ever think that it would take off like this and that you would be appearing on Shark Tank? >> I hoped. Uh but no, I mean honestly it's one of those things that's just like um you work and you work and you work. I was shaking like crazy and my heart is pounding and I'm just sitting here just like, "Okay, okay, okay, calm down." >> She couldn't detail how her pitch went until after the show airs, but she says her now 9-year-old daughter Isabella is the inspiration for the company. >> Sometimes I would help when like chocolate on Saturdays and stuff. It was really fun. I got to taste the chocolate. The biggest part about our chocolate was that I made it for kids, right? Because a lot of times when you hear healthy anything, you're just like, "No, thank you." But the one thing about our chocolate is I made it for her. And so she was the taste tester. So before I ever put anything out into the grocery stores or even sold it to anyone, I let her taste it. >> Listen, they have this at Whole Foods and we've already checked it out. My girls love this chocolate. She will be appearing on Shark Tank tonight, hoping that those sharks bite. That's at 10 o'clock right here on 6abc.
