While the show is great, would you be better served just watching the opening or trailer and skipping this feature length addition to the series or should you go see it in a theater? Find out in our spoiler free review!
I heard they were making a Chainsaw Man movie.
I was... I was giddy with that, man.
I love Chainsaw Man.
The Edward Scissorhands of chainsaws right here.
I did not think that once!
I did! And it's brilliant!
This is a crazy, crazy anime show and manga
where you have a guy who, for reasons we'll get into later,
turns into a dude with a chainsaw for a head and arms.
They just come out of his limbs right there,
and he just goes crazy slicing people up.
And this is in a world where that's normal.
Yeah.
Because there are devils,
these demons that just randomly pop up around this world,
and they have a society, or not a society,
they actually have a branch of the government,
the public safety demon hunters out there, devil hunters,
that go out there and try to take care of these pesky devils when they pop up.
And Chainsaw Man is one of the most badass devil hunters out there.
So, that's why when the movie came out,
and I went to see it,
I got this film about sweet and emotional teenage love.
Yeah. A little love triangle.
A little love triangle. Almost a soap opera about teenage romance.
Who the hell goes to watch Chainsaw Man for teenage romance?
Yeah. When this started, I was like,
alright, I guess I'm going to get something like the Demon Hunters movie,
you know, with the infinite castle, where it's just action, non-stop,
and then it's like, I think I'm in love.
Yeah. Yeah.
That damn CWN show is going on right here, man.
Yeah, I watched the movie where two teenagers, they go have coffee,
they go to the movies.
A lot. They go to the movies all day.
All day long. All day.
I'm watching a movie watching kids go to movies.
Who the hell goes to see Chainsaw Man for that?
And what do we think about that?
As this is, again, the anime's kicking ass.
It's the number one movie out there.
Oh, I bet. Didn't even need to ask.
So how do we feel about this?
I came here to see a man with chainsaw hands,
and a chainsaw head sliced up demons,
and people, and devils,
and I'm watching these two kids hold hands,
and go watch ******* indie cinema all day.
Who the hell thought of this and thought that I would like it?
Let's go ahead and see if we truly did like this,
and tell you more about this film,
after we watch this trailer,
and come back with our reviews for Chainsaw Man,
the movie, Rev Arc.
Rez.
Rez!
Yeah.
That's what I said, right?
You said Rev.
No, I didn't.
Chainsaw!
So I love how over the top, I mean,
oh, I'm talking in my anime voice, I'm sorry.
Let me get my indoor voice right here.
So, and I'm, we say Rez,
but it's also Reze, as they say in the film,
which is the name of one of the love interest,
and also the girl in the title, Reze.
Rez, but we'll say Reze.
But, if you know anything about the show,
I mean, you know how over the top it is.
Have you ever watched the show at all?
I had not.
I'd seen maybe a couple clips here and there,
but I was expecting it to be over the top,
because that is just the standard for anime.
Yeah.
Yeah, as I told you,
so this is a very over the top series.
So the premise for this world
is that this is an alternate reality
where demons or devils pop up
and they're safety hazards.
They're pretty much big giant pests.
And in this world,
you have this character of Denji.
Denji is a teenager,
and he was actually in for a lot of money
with the yakuza,
and so they killed him.
But fortunately for Denji,
he had a,
fortunately for Denji,
he had a chainsaw dog right here.
It was a little devil dog named Pochita.
And you talk about being a mutt.
Apparently a dog fucked a chainsaw,
and we got this right here.
But somehow,
Pochita was able to save Denji's life
because they merged together.
And thus we have the chainsaw man
that you see right here.
And he starts working for the public safety devil hunters.
That's the branch of the government
that goes out to get rid of these devils.
And all the devils want Denji's heart,
from what I understand,
because this is a unique thing that happened
when he combined with this little puppy chainsaw dog.
And now he has the power of regeneration.
And so all these devils want to know
how they can get that power too,
I believe.
It's been a while since I've seen the series,
but it's a fun series.
Very Japanese.
Again, very over the top.
Very crazy.
And you would expect that with this show right here.
You would expect a lot of comic book action,
gore,
a lot of screaming and hollering.
But for a lot of the movie,
as we were talking about before we saw the trailer,
it's actually the opposite of all of that.
And I think that that's kind of cool
because given a little bit of time,
that actually makes this more accessible
to people who don't know the TV show.
I 100% agree.
I think that this is something that,
even if you're not super familiar with this,
I think that you will be able to go in
and understand maybe not all of it,
but a good portion of it.
And there's also undeniable symmetry
between some of the designs of some stuff.
It's a movie with a giant shark.
Someone has a long black head,
kind of looks like a xenomorph.
There's all these stylistic things I recognized.
So when you jump into it,
there's characters,
there's plot details at the start of it,
and you won't know any of that
if you don't know the show.
If you haven't seen the show,
you're going to be lost on
what this character is over here,
why are these people doing
what they're doing over there.
But listen,
if you go into this movie
and you know this from the show,
then you know what you're getting into.
But,
given some time,
a lot of the plot does not depend
on what you see at the beginning.
It does not depend on a lot of the stuff
that you saw in the show
or whatever happened in the show.
So,
this kind of picks up.
Here,
this is where people can start
getting into the movie.
So this picks up for
just the newbies that get in here
and picks up on a new story,
at least I think,
kind of new.
There's some stuff that had been brewing
in the show,
but again,
you don't have to know what that was.
All you need to know now is that
Denji's boss,
this cutie right here,
Makima,
she asked him to go out on a date.
And from this moment,
the movie takes a very unexpected turn.
Because we're looking for,
at the beginning of the movie,
we're looking for this right here.
Yeah!
But,
it takes an unexpected turn
to where it becomes like
this really sweet romance, man.
And really, I mean,
it's just one long meet-cute
when these two get together.
Because
Denji and Makima,
however you say her name,
they go to the movies
all day, as we say.
They see about 10 movies.
I didn't even know you could,
I didn't even think you could watch
that many movies in one day.
Maybe not 10,
but they talk about seeing 10 movies
and only one being good.
Okay, alright.
Because they spend all day at the movies.
All the movies suck, by the way.
They complain about
every ******* movie they see.
I'm surprised,
I'm surprised they kept going.
Every movie that they saw,
you think we're bad
with our criticism of movies.
They walk out talking ----
about everything they've seen.
Even the audience,
they're like,
can you believe these motherfuckers crying?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
They talk ---- about the movie.
They talk about the audience.
They talk about the dude
sitting in front of them,
behind them.
And then they go see
one last movie of that day
and the last scene
just has them in tears,
just crying.
And after that moment,
they both have just kind of bonded.
They shared this nice moment
where they watched some cinema.
They cried at the same time.
Then she says,
man, she's the one.
There's no one else for me.
This girl, she has to be it.
No other girl has moved me
like this girl right here.
Oh, but
nothing in life is simple
when you're a handsome devil hunter
like Denji right here.
I don't know what cologne he's wearing.
I don't know what kind of smell
he's putting out.
I mean, he's so spry,
you know,
and young
and 16.
For no reason,
they're like,
by the way, he is 16.
Yeah, well,
you know, again,
when the series starts out,
he's kind of a kid
who's on his own.
And he's been poor
as you know,
he's been mistreated.
He's been murdered.
And now life is kind of picking up.
It's like where he,
because after he was brought back to life,
he started working for the government
and he hasn't had too much time to date
or do anything that a teenager does.
So now he's got this girl,
but then this other girl comes up.
And like I said,
right when things seem like,
things are looking up
for old Denji right here.
Things become complicated
when
Reza, Reze
comes in here.
She's the cute girl
that works at the coffee shop
down the street.
And while Makima is cute
and likes going to see indie cinema
and you know,
she's kind of that artsy girl
and whatnot,
and also his boss,
which is kind of hot.
Reze is more wild.
She's more flirty
and kind of nasty.
She's like,
she likes making sex jokes
about balls and ass.
Yeah.
Which you know,
makes Denji's hormones go crazy.
I mean, he's a teenage boy,
so you know,
he's hard as a rock.
And she's,
and she's cute, man.
She's actually kind of fun.
Oh,
oh, which one?
The sweet girl
that loves to go to indie cinema
or this wild-ass nasty girl right here.
Now, it is important to note
in this movie
that
Denji,
he
has hardly been able to be a teen.
I just mentioned that.
You know,
he's given this big responsibility
where he has to go
and hunt devils for the government.
And both girls
kind of give him some normalcy, man.
Especially Reze
because,
you know,
she's not,
she comes across flirty
and a little dirty
and whatnot,
a little sexual,
but she's actually a very nice girl.
She's very sweet too.
And
the thing that she,
she keeps reminding him that,
you know what,
yeah,
you're a teenager.
You missed out on so much.
You didn't get to go to school.
You didn't get to hang out.
And so she starts actually
tutoring him to learn a language
and
they even go,
let's see if I saw it
in this trailer right here.
They even go skinny dipping,
I think.
Which is kind of,
it was,
I really liked the way they did that scene,
but it made me feel weird
because of like,
they stopped the movie to be like,
hey,
this guy is this old.
Now he's going to get in this pool
with a naked woman
and we're going to show it
in this very artistic way
that I like.
But I was like,
how old is this girl?
What am I looking at right here?
Well,
listen,
I don't know what it's like
in Japanese culture
because in the show,
listen,
you couldn't do this in America
and yet they get away.
We just say,
when we watch it here,
we just say,
well,
that's just Japanese.
But he wants to grab,
he wants to know what it's like
to grab titties.
Yeah.
And he's always,
I think he's actually
groped some people in the show.
That's what I heard.
Yeah.
He wants to like,
because again,
he hasn't had life this good.
He hasn't had a date,
he hasn't had a girl.
So he wants to know
what it's like to grab titties,
boobs.
And so,
yeah,
they do some things
that I don't think
you could probably do here.
However,
they go skinny dipping
and it's actually
pretty innocent,
man.
I mean,
our titties are all hanging out
and I'm sure,
you know,
I guess dingy all worked up
and everything.
But it's innocent.
Yeah.
And they frame it in a way
that I thought was really cool
where it's like,
ah,
it's so dark,
you won't be able to see
anything anyway.
And I think that
them saying that
and showing it the way they do,
besides the fact that
they mention the age,
which just makes it feel weird for me,
I thought it was a very
beautiful looking scene.
Yeah.
No,
it was because it's innocent.
She's,
you think it's going to be,
they mislead you to thinking like,
oh,
you know,
this is going to be weird.
It's going to be something
kind of dirty.
I don't know if I should be
watching this because
they're teenage kids.
But she's teaching him
how to swim.
She's teaching him how to,
you know,
how to read a certain way.
She's teaching him how to swim.
She's pretty much just saying,
listen,
you know,
come out and live this life
that you hadn't lived before
because
you've been working the job
of
and have the responsibilities
of an adult.
You've never been able to be a kid.
And I thought,
man,
you know what?
For
a movie where
I came to see a dude
with,
again,
with chainsaws
coming out of his ******* hands.
I'm like,
this is kind of,
this is kind of thoughtful.
This is actually kind of nice.
And,
you know,
and that's what it is,
man.
It's a nice,
it's a nice coming of age story.
The movie's slower paced
and it's actually good.
I like these characters,
man.
It's,
and it's sweet,
man.
It's,
it's,
it's slow paced,
but the show,
but,
I mean,
but,
but the movie,
it kind of,
it builds up
with these characters.
You get invested
because
I'm happy to see Denji
get to be a kid.
I actually feel that.
I,
I have sympathy for him.
I'm happy that he's happy.
Uh,
I'm also in suspense.
I'm treating this like a soap opera.
Oh my God,
you know,
which,
which girl is it going to be?
You know,
is it going to be,
again,
uh,
Makama?
Or is he going to be,
you know,
is he going to get in the,
in the Reze?
You know,
I was,
I was like,
oh my God,
which one?
I'm watching,
again,
I'm watching this like it's a,
like it's a soap opera.
I,
I got that too,
but it was pretty obvious to me
what was going to end up happening.
****.
Yeah.
You don't go with the girl that's talking about ass and,
and,
and balls,
you know,
that's what I'm going with.
Yeah.
Come on.
He's a,
he's a dude.
He's a 16 year old boy.
Yeah.
He's going to go with the girl.
That's pretty much him.
I'm going to have sex with you.
And them explaining his reasoning.
I thought that they use the trope of like,
you know,
the,
the anime narrator.
I thought they use that really well.
Cause the way the art style shifts so much,
like when he's narrating and talking about his thought process of picking one of the girls,
I thought that was really well done.
Listen,
man,
I'm so into this,
to this dude.
And these two chicks that he's trying to figure out who to date.
And I'm so into the,
I listen,
this is not,
I'm not,
I'm not talking about sex.
I'm not talking about titties.
I'm talking about sweet,
innocent teenage love and romance.
I forgot that.
I came here to see a man with chainsaws for limbs in their head.
Yeah.
It was kind of enjoying.
I was like,
Oh,
this is a,
this is a will.
They won't say,
okay.
Yeah.
I forgot that.
I came here to see a movie called chainsaw man.
And if it didn't cut to the occasional demon hunter scene,
our creature popping up,
I forget what crazy ass movie that I'm in.
It takes a long time before that creature chainsaw man even shows up.
Yeah.
I mean,
that's what I'm,
I really forgot that I was watching chainsaw man.
I thought I was watching one of those anime dramas that comes out of Japan
every now and then.
I was like,
wow,
why does this remind me of perfect blue in like the two animes I've ever
seen?
Yeah.
I'm thinking am I watching a Miyazaki movie or something right now?
Because I'm like,
man,
this is a drama ******* chainsaw,
man.
I'm kind of cool watching this.
Oh,
sir.
Here it comes.
I'm not going to hit you with it.
It's too illicit.
It's too late.
It's too early for this nonsense.
All right.
I'm not going to mess with you.
All right.
I will,
I will ask you,
I will,
I will ask for your blessing since we're in church right now,
sir.
Yes.
May I give a word out to our sponsor right now?
This is blessed.
It's not kosher.
Thank you.
Kiss the hand.
There you go,
people.
And I will use this hand to bring up a word from my sponsor right now.
See,
I could have hit you and said,
man,
you know,
if you really want to impress the girl,
you could have got a gift from uncommon goods,
but I didn't do that to you.
But that is our sponsor right now.
Uncommon goods.
And I want to tell people about this.
You know,
what's coming up Christmas.
Yes.
You're smart,
man,
right here.
I'm learning how to speak Comanese.
Oh,
that Hanukkah.
Yeah.
All the holidays.
I mean,
no matter whether it's that,
whether,
whether it's Christmas or the Hanukkah going on,
you're going to need a gift.
Gift are several.
Yeah.
Now you can go out and get the regular gift.
Some old,
you know,
average thing that everybody else is getting are,
you can get something from uncommon goods.
And the reason why I'm recommending that is because uncommon goods,
they look for products that are not only high quality,
but products that are unique.
Some of them are handmade,
got a personal touch to them.
And they're also made right here in the US.
And a lot of them,
you listen,
if you buy something from uncommon goods,
not only are you giving something unique,
but you're supporting artists out there.
You're supporting small business.
I think they even give some money away.
That's nice.
Some causes out there,
but with uncommon goods,
like I said,
they got something for everybody.
We've got something for the moms,
the dads,
the kids,
book lovers,
history buffs,
football fans.
Hey,
listen,
you gotta,
you like food.
You got a garden.
You,
what did I just buy?
Uh,
you just bought a liquor cabinet.
Yes,
sir.
This guy is on it today.
And you know what?
Uh,
they have a whole mixologist section over here.
I'm looking to buy.
I'm,
I'm greedy to hell with buying gifts for people.
I'm gonna buy something myself.
I got that new,
nice liquor cabinet in there.
Look at all this stuff.
And I can serve,
uh,
drinks looking evil like this guy.
I wouldn't trust drinks from that guy.
No,
I didn't put anything in this drink.
First you have to put on the mustache.
Then you burn the fire.
No,
the drink is completely safe and innocent.
Um,
yeah,
I'm thinking about getting something for myself to add to my,
my,
uh,
new liquor cabinet because all of these things,
again,
are very unique.
And as I said,
when you shop at uncommon goods,
you're supporting not only the artists out there,
not only small and independent businesses.
I told you they had a cause.
You also,
I'm going to be helping to support,
let's see right here.
Uh,
you'll be giving $1 back to a nonprofit partner of your choice.
They've donated more than $3 million.
These things to date fact checking me over there.
Yeah,
look it up.
I'm telling you the truth,
sir.
And as I said,
many of their handcrafted products are made in small batches.
So you're going to be giving something that once it's gone,
I'm probably not going to be able to get it again.
Listen,
I'm going to give you a gift right now.
I'm going to do this.
It's cool.
Get 15% off your next gift.
And you go to uncommon goods.com slash toasted.
That's uncommon goods.com slash posted.
Get 15% off.
I want to thank uncommon goods for sponsoring this portion of the show.
I want to thank you out there.
not you.
Yeah.
All of you out there for your support.
All right,
let's get back to it,
man.
Uh,
now we've been talking about how nice and sweet and romantic this movie
is.
It's like a little,
little nice romantic soap opera,
a little teen boy trying to figure out which girl he wants.
And his story is kind of beautiful and touching.
And right when things are nice,
right?
When things are so sweet,
right?
When you got your guard down,
the movie takes a dark ass turn fast,
fast,
real fast.
In fact,
it's so dark.
They're about to introduce one movie and made it.
And it's almost too dark for this film.
Like they get rid of that and go to something else.
And Reza shows that she's not the person that we thought she is.
And this movie goes ******* insane.
Insane.
Not crazy out of his goddamn mind.
Insane.
Yeah.
Straight jacket.
Shit.
Yeah.
It's straight jacket wrapping right before your very eyes.
Like this movie needs to be committed.
It does.
It's movies.
The way it just flips.
We hit.
I mean,
we were having a nice night.
Nice view.
And then ---- just literally blows up,
man.
Yeah.
And then they take the cap off the ADD bottle and just pour it.
Yeah.
That's what somebody just said.
And then somebody said here in the,
in the chat show gone crazy.
This movie show go crazy.
Man,
it might as well have been water coming out of light bulbs.
People.
I know I say this all the time,
but seriously,
this ---- flips into something that,
like I said,
man,
you might as well be in another movie.
Cause at this moment we go from.
Again,
this sweet teen romance to a demon woman with a bomb for a head who
threatens to blow up half of Tokyo,
fighting the guy with chainsaw arms,
riding a giant shark.
Yeah.
Shark boy,
shark,
dude.
Yeah.
Inside a literal living demon.
Tornado.
Fireworks.
It's like a,
like a,
you know,
it's like the,
the craziest concert you've ever been to.
Yeah.
People.
It goes so crazy.
You ask yourself,
how did we get here?
Don't worry about it.
Really?
Don't worry.
It doesn't matter.
No,
no.
We all,
it matters that we're here and I'm ******* for it.
Yeah.
I am 100% for it,
man.
I'm skipping some details on how we got here,
but you don't need to know what matter.
It would not matter.
Yeah.
The characters that come in,
they're there for people who watch the show because in between like the
first part you talked about and this,
there is a lot of ----.
I didn't understand.
I was like,
I'm not going to question that.
Just move on.
Okay.
Blown ---- up.
Only thing that I can say,
only thing I could criticize with this is that you were watching this nice
romance.
You were getting into it.
This is your first time watching this.
You almost think that this is going to be the rest of the movie.
Then all of a sudden at the end,
that's going to be you.
This is the world we live in now.
And it's amazing.
I,
you know,
again,
I'm not saying that this is for everybody is,
this is,
this is what the Japanese do.
Okay.
We,
we start with one thing and then all of a sudden we're somewhere else.
Don't ask about it.
You don't like it.
There's a door right there.
I don't have to tell you,
but it is at this point one long insane fight scene.
Again,
a literal whirlwind of animated blood guts,
pyrotechnics,
fireworks,
explosions,
but it's beautiful.
It's beautiful.
The,
the,
you know,
the,
even the demon blood in here,
it starts taking on different fluorescent colors.
And the,
the movie just,
it becomes psychedelic.
Yeah.
In a way.
That was the first thing I said to you.
I was like,
not expecting this to literally be avant-garde and like super out there.
Yeah.
No,
it out there.
Let me ask you something.
Let me put this on you.
You haven't seen the show.
Nope.
You got into the romance part,
just like I did.
And you liked that part.
No,
I did.
Yeah.
Cause I appreciate it just cause it was an animated version of that type
of story.
What did you think when it turned to this?
I mean,
when it became what I expected it to be the whole time,
I was like,
all right,
here we go.
But there's,
there's a stylistic choice that this makes.
It's very different than a lot of the other anime you see these days
where it's like,
this really feels like it's from someone who loves that look of like
late seventies,
eighties anime.
Yeah.
This felt like I found something that just,
just was,
you know,
like hidden in,
in anime.
And it was just like,
this looks like some ---- right out of the eighties.
Yeah.
And,
and I thought it was really pretty to look at,
man.
I,
sometimes I don't mind.
You told your story.
It took,
it took a turn and I love this unapologetic,
unapologetic,
crazy as insane action.
And like I said,
man,
that's,
they,
they built this world and that's just,
that's just the world we live in.
And when you watch this,
you'd accept it or you don't.
They already set up in the very beginning that this,
this,
this world,
anything crazy could pop up at any moment and things can take a turn
like this.
Yeah.
And they stopped to do like,
you know,
like very,
like,
like very highbrow storytelling type of stuff where it's just like
letting the images speak for itself,
but then it will jump back into the crazy ----,
you know,
like at the very end.
No,
I think you have,
I think you have a good point.
I mean,
maybe it's not storytelling for everybody,
but I like that they told this story and they told it with
character.
And then they got into a part of the movie where they just want
to be visual and tell the story that way.
It's something like,
you just watch,
it's like a ballet of,
of,
of.
Cause the animation is so beautiful.
It's just like this is violent.
Yeah.
But it's like just watching this,
this,
this ballet,
these,
these people just doing these,
you know,
this aerial dance.
And it's a ballet within it of styles.
Yeah.
Cause I noticed that like certain characters were almost animated
differently.
Like when,
when Chainsaw Man is in his human form,
lacks a lot of detail.
But when he becomes Chainsaw Man,
there's so many little crevices and,
and lines on it.
I thought it was really interesting.
I did that.
That is actually a good point because yeah,
man,
it's like they,
they,
they save the detail for a lot of the fighting.
And I love that because you have the,
the,
the art style is simplistic.
It's more simplistic.
Now,
that's not a criticism.
It's more simplistic when they're telling the,
the,
the drama,
the romance part,
and then it gets,
you know,
as you say,
there's a lot of detail because this is just chaotic.
Yes.
And,
and,
and there's just a lot of detail to show that,
you know,
so yeah,
you know,
the animation is more intricate.
You like his shirt flying around everywhere.
They really save a lot of the,
the best animation for this kind of stuff right here.
It almost,
I thought had a look of rotoscoping it sometimes because I was like,
that looks real.
But like,
it's lacking detail almost,
you know?
Yeah.
Like when they show animals or like,
you know,
like objects that you recognize,
like a comb or something,
or just a glass.
Yeah.
I,
and I think even chainsaw,
man,
I think the,
like the head might be CG sometimes.
Yeah.
Oh,
there was definitely some parts where like the environment was CG or it was
like flat and they were animated on top of it.
Yeah.
A lot of combinations of styles,
a lot going on.
Yeah.
It's,
it's,
it's stunning,
man.
I,
and I think it's just something different.
I mean,
maybe,
maybe we don't tell stories like this,
but I like when you,
when,
when you start out one way and then this whole thing just takes a turn into
something different.
And yet you can see how it's still connected.
Oh,
yeah.
It doesn't feel like a turn,
like at the end of 28 years later where it's like,
yeah,
exactly.
Yeah.
It's,
it's,
it's definitely two different things that are happening,
but they're still connected.
These characters,
they,
you know,
they,
they're still telling their story.
They just telling it in a different style,
a different way.
One is very subtle.
One is very actionable.
And for someone like me,
who's not very familiar with the show,
they definitely ease you into that.
This ---- is going to go nuts.
Yeah.
Because like,
even before,
you know,
like these big fight scenes happen,
you get to see the aftermath of it.
And you're like,
Jesus Christ.
And man,
when it,
when it does flip it again,
it's,
that's not like they just start fighting out of nowhere and it's,
you know,
it's there,
you know,
there's explosions and whatnot.
No,
there's a moment when you see it turn and,
and you,
it's,
it's a moment of dread.
Cause I'm like,
oh ----,
it's about to go down.
And also it's a betrayal for a dingy,
man.
I feel bad for him when that moment happens.
And there's also a pretty horrific tooth.
What happens with that?
I just thought,
eh,
you got to learn.
He's 16,
man.
He's an idiot.
You know,
he's 16.
He's thinking of his dick right now.
Yeah,
exactly.
Yeah.
No,
you're right.
Welcome to real life.
Yeah.
He'll learn.
He'll have to get his ass beat by,
you know,
demons several times,
several times.
Uh,
yeah,
man,
I,
um,
I,
I also thought like,
and when it was done,
the ending was kind of profound and in a way,
because it reminds us again that dingy is a teenager and,
you know,
that might keep him from doing his job,
uh,
doing it,
doing,
doing a job,
doing the job in a,
in a way that an adult would,
would,
would do it better.
The adult would be more mature about it.
They'd be,
they'd be more rational about it.
He's not.
And I think he makes some bad choices at the end.
And then the movie has a nice wrap up based on his bad choices.
So it's not even like he's a hero at the end.
He's still a kid who's not thinking right.
He's thinking very,
you know,
immaturely.
Yeah.
And the movie calls him out directly for it.
Yeah.
Yeah,
it does.
Yeah.
It's actually,
man,
listen,
this movie for all of the craziness and the way just kind of just
turns so quickly.
It's still a smart film,
I think.
And it's exciting.
It's fun.
And definitely meant for people who like anime.
Uh,
like I said,
you know,
if you're somebody who's walking into this,
even though the,
even when it is accessible with the romance part,
uh,
I don't know how you're going to feel when,
when it,
when it gets wild,
you know,
it might,
it,
you might get thrown off completely by that and start tuning out and be
like,
what the **** is happening?
And this dude riding a shark,
riding a tornado.
Especially with the art style jumping around so fast and so much the way
that it does.
Yeah.
Nice.
Man,
I look,
I love it.
I thought it was great,
but then,
you know,
that's just me.
I,
I was kind of raised on anime.
Always dreamed of this day when anime would become mainstream like this.
And now I'm kind of getting back into it.
This is taking me back to when I,
I,
you know,
the anime that I,
that I kind of grew up with crazy stuff like this.
Yeah.
I mean,
like I said,
it looks like it's right out of the eighties.
Yeah,
no,
you're right.
You're right.
But yeah,
man,
I,
I enjoyed this.
I,
I would give this full price,
but again,
that is somebody who knows what they're going into,
who likes anime,
who has watched the show.
I,
I can't,
I don't know if I can actually recommend this,
even with it having an accessible part of the story.
I don't know if I can recommend this to somebody who's just coming in
casually,
but definitely if you're a fan of the show,
you know what you're getting into and people obviously love this.
And,
and yeah,
I'm one of those people.
So I give it a full price,
but again,
I saw the show.
Yeah.
I don't,
I didn't like it nearly as much as you did.
I don't think,
but I do think that there is enough quality stuff here that even if you are
coming in pretty much blind,
like I did,
that you could have a good time.
If you were someone who loves art house movies,
this one might surprise you.
I,
I got more out of this than I was expecting.
I went in with an open mind and I saw a story with a full arc and
characters that I could follow way more than you would think.
And yeah,
I'd give it probably like a low matinee.
I'm not eager to rewatch it,
but I did like the experience of seeing in theaters and,
you know,
even though the audience is kind of annoying,
they can't shut up and be like,
Oh,
there's a guy who did this thing the whole time,
which is so weird.
But I appreciate that something like this exists.
I'd give it a low matinee.
Okay.
I don't think that's fair.
Somebody's coming in this without even knowing anything.
I think that's actually pretty good.
Yeah.
And you were worried too.
You're like,
no,
don't,
don't come in here pissing off these anime fans.
Please don't piss off these anime fans.
Please,
please don't piss them off.
I'm going to piss on them.
You already pissed off the K-pop people.
Now,
don't go.
I like that movie.
This man's trying to piss off all the Asians over here.
Please,
please,
man.
But no,
I think,
I think what you said is fair.
Yeah.
I like that.
Yeah.
