How'd you get your scar?
I don't know if you're ready for that story.
I can take it.
Oh yeah, you gotta dump, huh?
That's a good one.
It was a hundred degrees in the shade.
I walked for five days with no water.
Then I saw it.
A pretty pond.
I bent down to take a drink when these crocs launched out of the water.
One croc bit me on the face.
Ain't no way I wasn't at supper.
Except for one thing.
I wasn't ready for dying that day.
I bit one croc in half, tail-whipped the other, and the last one...
Well, I drowned that croc in my own blood.
Dad!
Look, look!
Gives me the little goosies every time!
I love that story!
That's me.
There's Libby.
And Buck.
And Mama.
And...
And Papa.
Family.
You don't understand.
Yes.
That's your family.
Okay, now take a walk out there.
By myself?
Go on.
You see, you gotta get through your feet to see the beauty on the other side.
I need to get home!
What did you say that watering hole was?
I got a job for you.
I'm not really good at jobs.
I need you to keep on the dodge and sidle up the loblolly past them hornheads.
Just hootin' and hollerin' and score off them rustlers.
We'll cut dirt and get the bulge on them.
What?
He just wants you to get on that rock and scream.
Uh, but who's out there?
They'll come right at you. You hold your ground.
Don't move.
Don't move?
What if they have claws and big teeth?
Don't overthink it.
Why?
I'm going home.
Do you know how far Clawtooth Mountain is?
Good idea.
We want him.
Why?
Cause it's terrifying out here.
He can protect me.
Like my friends.
This is Fury.
He protects me from the creatures that crawl in the night.
This is Destructor.
She protects me from mosquitoes.
This is Dream Crusher.
He protects me from having unrealistic goals.
And this is Jabby.
Yes, we need him.
Oh, shoot!
That's my favorite tooth!
I'm gonna love ending you!
Hey, you okay, kid?
Yes, I hate those kind.
Lyin' sons of crawdad pickin' on a kid?
Well, ain't you just the cutest thing?
He likes you.
Imagine that, Ramsey.
Even with your stinky face.
Nash!
Boundaries?
This is my personal bubble.
Nah, that ain't your bubble.
This is your bubble!
Nash!
Get out of your sister's bubble!
Where am I?
The Good Dinosaur is about Arlo and Spot on this incredible journey out in the wilderness.
We need to get home.
And in order to bring reality to that world in the frontier,
we needed to go on our own journey first.
We knew it was gonna be set in the West,
so the art department and story team did a research trip to that area.
It was awe-inspiring how huge those landscapes were,
and so what a perfect place to make a dinosaur feel tiny.
Where's home?
We wanted to have the feeling of being lost, like Arlo and Spot,
so we went on a horseback ride up into the Grand Tetons.
At one point, Arlo falls into the river,
so we went on a river rafting trip to feel what it would be like to go down a rapid.
And then we went to a cattle ranch to do some herding.
Because we were in big sky country, you feel like you can see forever.
We needed to think about how we were gonna do clouds.
In the past, the matte paint department used to paint clouds by hand.
They would look beautiful, but we couldn't make them move very easily.
A big part of The Good Dinosaur was to figure out a way to make sure that our clouds could move.
We wanted to give nature a feeling that it's breathing, that it's alive.
So we had the idea, let's try to do all 3D volumetric clouds.
We built a completely new tool set.
The clouds exist in 3D space, and so they feel a lot more real.
They move when the wind picks up, and when the storms pick up, they'll evolve.
The environments are incredibly immersive and beautiful,
because they were made by people that poured their heart and soul into it.
This is one of the most visually stunning films that Pixar has done,
and the skies are just a beautiful part of it.
The Good Dinosaur is about Arlo. He finds himself lost out in the wilderness.
And he has to find his way back home again.
He meets an amazing friend along the way.
What is his name?
I don't know.
I name him, I keep him.
Killer!
Stinky!
Violet!
Spike!
Lunatic!
Spot!
Come here, Spot, come here!
When he finds Arlo, he kind of attaches himself to him.
And they set off on a journey of a lifetime.
It's a really simple coming-of-age story
that break away from the parents for the first time,
before you take that first step.
But on a much larger scale.
It's about this journey that they're on,
this quest to get back home,
and what they learn along the way.
It's about friendship and things that are really important in life.
I'm done being scared.
If you ain't scared, you ain't alive.
Watch this!
I see a light!
What if the asteroid that destroyed the dinosaurs missed?
In the animal kingdom, one of the keys to survival is to outwit your enemy.
But there's not a single species on Earth that could have outsmarted
a Mount Everest-sized asteroid hurtling towards Earth at 30 kilometers per second.
But what if the Chicxulub meteor had missed?
Would the dinosaurs still be alive today?
What if these gargantuan creatures were actually still around?
Our mammal ancestors that were running underfoot,
avoiding becoming hors d'oeuvres by T-Rex,
probably would have stayed just that way.
Had they gotten much bigger,
you'd become a much bigger meal for the carnivorous dinosaurs that were ruling the Earth.
So what you really had to do was remove the dinosaurs from the ecosystem.
That pries open an ecological niche,
enabling our mammal ancestors to aspire to become something more
than just the rodents that they were of the day.
But imagine, though, if the dinosaurs were localized to one landmass
and we had our mammal ancestors on another landmass.
It's possible you could have dinosaurs continuing
and then mammals evolving to become humans.
And then one day they sail across the oceans and meet one another
and the dinosaurs eat us.
That's probably exactly how that would play out.
We'll probably never have to worry about roaming herds of theropods
disrupting our rush hour commutes,
but it sure is fun to think about.
For the Universe, I'm Neil deGrasse Tyson.
I think we went far enough today.
Let's get you home.
Where am I?
Ow!
Are you little...
I need to get home.
I decided to let the law brolly pass him whore in his...
What?
...protected you.
What is his name?
I don't know.
I name him, I keep him.
Killer!
Stinky!
Violet!
Spike!
Lunatic!
Spot!
Spot! Come here, Spot, come here!
Well, aren't you just the cutest thing?
I'm done being scared.
If you ain't scared, you ain't alive.
I miss my family.
You don't understand.
