That was a great day but I am exhausted. I barely slept last night and for the entire
month I was so busy with work. I haven't been sleeping very much so I'm not very hungry.
I don't think I'm going to have dinner tonight. I'm just going to have some snacks. I got this
little snack cake here. A little pink coconut log and I'll see if I want anything more.
These are so good. Well it was a great first day but I need to catch up on some sleep.
So I'll see you in the morning. Alright here's a quick look at my route for this trip.
Yesterday I started here, Kiosk Lake, the north section of Algonquin Park. I made my way down
here. Some portages into these lakes here. A few more portages and I'm camped on Club Lake tonight
right now. So for today I'm continuing this loop into Mouse Lake. A small 600 there. I've got this
1720 that's going to be difficult. Another map says that it's all uphill into Main Creek. Another
small portage into Big Thunder Lake and then another 1580 into Erab Lake. That's where I'll
be camping tonight. Then afterwards I'm booked on Maple Creek or Maple Lake and I'll be headed
back down Maple Creek back to the access. So that's the loop. I flipped my canoe over and this
little guy was in there. Tiny. I'll put him back now. Late start as usual for me. 10 30. I don't have an
easy day so it was about time that I got going. That was a beautiful campsite. On to the next one.
Have a look at this. This massive broken off tree is just suspended right above the portage trail.
Wow. Lake is like glass right now. So pretty. All colors are nearly starting now. There's a really
impressive escarpment on the south side of this lake. Unfortunately that's where my portage is
going to be. Somewhere around there. So I know this one's going to be a tough one.
Glad that portage is over. I'm in a very pretty little creek now.
Alright. Made it to Big Thunder Lake. Second last lake of the day. I almost booked my second night
on this lake. There's only one campsite. As far as I know no one's booked here.
But I kind of regret it now. So this lake marks the highest point on my route. The highest
elevation. So yesterday and today everything was going uphill. Now everything's going down from now
on. Made it to my lake for tonight. So now I'm just looking for a campsite. What a perfect day.
This is a very nice little island site. Nice and simple. Perfect. Managed to prep a little bit of
firewood. Don't have too much but it's okay. Don't have the energy to start looking for proper firewood.
Alright. Dinner's ready. Here it is. Chicken jambalaya. Smells pretty good.
Gonna enjoy this now. Can't forget the purple kool-aid.
Got my coffee. My oatmeal. Just gonna enjoy this beautiful morning. I have a much more relaxed day
today. So I'm gonna take my time and take it slow. Alright. Well I finished my only portage of the day.
One little beaver dam there and I should soon be arriving on Maple Lake. That's where I'm camping
tonight. This looks like a really nice site. Well I was right. This is an incredible campsite.
Have a look at that view. Wow. That swim felt incredible and I just can't get over
what a beautiful spot this is. Perfect fall day. Just woke up from a nice little nap.
Now I'll go for a little paddle. See if I can find myself some firewood because
there isn't really anything on my island. Just finishing my trail mix here and debating whether
or not I worked hard enough today to warrant a freeze-dried meal for dinner tonight. Not really
that hungry so I might just have some ramen noodles a side dish and that should be sufficient.
My firewood's all prepped now. Ready to go. Just gonna relax. Enjoy this beautiful evening.
The last night of this trip in the park. Well worth the effort to get this firewood. I'll try
not to burn through it too quickly. I've said it a hundred times already but I just can't get over
how amazing this weather has been. Simply incredible. All right it's candy bar dessert time
and I saved my favorite for the last night. Coffee crisp. It's number one best chocolate bar.
Number two for me. It's not really a bar but Reese's Pieces big cups with the Reese's Pieces
on the inside. That's number two. Well that was another beautiful campsite. Wonderful night there
but I've got to get going unfortunately. So my map says that the journey out should take around six
hours. I'm going down a creek and there are many portages along the way. It's about 13 kilometers or
so. The skies are darkening. I think some weather's on its way. Okay second last portage of the trip is
done. Now I have a long stretch of this creek, Maple Creek, which I love. I enjoy creek travel
and then I will have, oh bird, then I'll have one last 900 meter portage
before I get to my access lake. So I'm gonna enjoy this last little stretch of creek travel.
There it is. Kiosk Lake.
