YOUR SIGHT TAPE HAS AN EXPIRATION DATE!
Comments are disabled for this video.
Guys, welcome to Elk Shape YouTube channel.
This is my boy, Tristan from Precision Cut Archery.
We've made videos, but never together
in the real place at the real time.
Your sight tape has an expiration date
and we're gonna explain why.
Stick around to the end,
we're gonna show you two ways to sight your tape in.
One if you're in a hurry,
one if you got a little bit more time,
but both are fast.
Here we go.
Hey guys, we have Tristan from Precision Cut Archery
here in Green Acres at Spokane Valley Archery.
Justin over there, Justin Grimes,
does not wanna be on camera,
so make sure you're filming him.
Here we go.
So we have Riley's arrow is,
oh boy, Riley, total arrow weight, 415.
And we'll do Mr. Elk Shape.
Good chance this is what my arrow's gonna be.
456, mm-hmm.
All right, next we gotta do peep-to-arrow and peep-to-pin.
So we gotta put them in a draw board.
We'll do that next.
All right, so I'm gonna do peep-to-arrow, 3.75.
So we're gonna go from peep-to-pin.
Call him that 28, Justin.
Would you say it's 27 and?
15, 16.
Okay.
Okay, next up, Riley, and he's wrong-handed.
So we're gonna go to the other draw board.
She's timed.
All right, so Riley is wrong-handed.
Peep, five-eighths, three and six-eighths.
25 and five-eighths.
You wanna get really particular in the future
on how to do this,
what you would do is draw your bow back
and you're going to pull into your bow
the way you shoot, not just against the stops,
because at full draw you might be pulling
into the stops further.
And you have somebody make,
when you're pulling in how you'd normally shoot a shot,
you have somebody mark against a reference point
on the bow somewhere,
and then you put it in the draw board
and take that mark until it's hitting your reference point.
And then you'll get better numbers.
Did you guys catch that?
That's pretty pro.
Did you learn that?
I hope you didn't.
Oh, sorry.
Justin Grimes.
Dirty Grimes.
All right, so we got our bow measurements for Dan's bow.
Now we're going to shoot a couple shots at 70
with the lab radar.
And what the lab radar is doing really
is it's telling us what the speed of the arrow is downrange.
So we're getting kind of a launch speed
like you would with a normal chronograph.
And also it's gonna tell us what the arrow's doing at 65.
And that gives us what we need to know
to essentially calculate drag of the arrow
to make the sight tape.
So it's pretty simple.
We'll put this, this is a trigger.
It's like basically a microphone
that clamps onto the bow like so.
It doesn't really matter.
70 is the one.
That'll be all good.
Next to the elk?
Yeah, the one with the two orange dots.
And we'll arm that.
That should be good to go.
So that's a little bit finished.
Do you have to put my information in that?
Nope.
Okay.
So we got 286 at launch, 281 at 20, 266 at 65.
With how heavy of an arrow?
456.
Yeah.
Yep.
Solid.
Yep.
So I'd do a couple.
I'd maybe do like two or three.
Make sure we get the same readings.
All right.
And if they're all, so we were.
281 at 20, 266.
So we'll just kind of pay attention
and see if there's any crazy.
Show them what you did.
You made that, right?
Film that real quick.
Show them what you did.
This is a like $1 spring clamp from Amazon.
I took the trigger adapter that they send or that they have.
They actually don't make it anymore.
Now they're calling it the air gun trigger.
So basically it's that microphone.
It's not, and I tried to use just a plain microphone
but it's technically not a microphone.
It's like some kind of vibration sensor.
So you kind of have to use theirs
or figure out something that would be equivalent.
But yeah, $1 clamps and zip ties.
And it's so much easier to get on your bow
than the old one that they used to send.
So that's my Labradar hot tip.
So I'm in the Labradar app.
I pulled up the series.
So we took four shots.
Yep.
They were all pretty much the same except for this one.
Yeah.
So in this case, I'm just going to delete this.
The nice part is that this just averages everything
for you now.
It didn't use to do this.
You have to, you would have to like.
This yours?
This is Labradar's app.
Oh, I didn't even know they had an app.
Yeah.
The Bluetooth connects to them so you can pull the data.
Sweet.
So we'll use this 20, 280.7.
And we'll use a 65, 265.5.
All right.
For the two readings.
So first thing we'll add Dan's bow here.
Dan, Excel and slide.
Your peep height was 3.75.
Sight radius was 27 and 15, 16.
By the way, you can now just type that in.
Oh, thank you.
Cause it's a pain in the butt.
Well done.
So we got that.
It converts it for you.
We'll add your arrow.
X10.
X10, good enough.
And that was 456.
So that's all we need for that.
And then what we'll just do.
Two times this.
50 degrees maybe, close enough.
Downrange speed method.
Yep.
Because we're using the Labradar.
280.
20, 65.
65 was 265.5.
So we got that.
This is so fun to like,
do you know how many times me and Tristan
have talked on the phone and text?
And here he is finally in Green Acres.
Like we were one of the first to get to like
actually build sight tapes.
And when I did the Labradar,
was that two years ago or last year?
It was like, holy crap.
I think the name of the video is like
the fastest way to build a sight tape.
Yeah.
It's like, it really is.
I still think it is.
Yeah.
I mean, if you want one that's actually accurate,
I guess I'll say, I mean, you could guess.
No.
You can get close, but okay.
Styling options.
This was my default.
Yeah.
Landslide thing.
It's tough because these sites are so narrow.
Yeah.
That you don't have a lot of room.
So I like, and the other thing with these sites is
the indicators come to like the middle of the tape.
So if you just do like,
it's nice to have the lines in the middle
so that the indicators actually go on the lines.
So I don't know.
It's all preference.
And I have this set at 0.26 inches wide.
So yeah, that's still, that should be right.
So it looks like you could make us,
if you started at 20 or at 13, I guess,
you could make it to 130.
Perfect.
How much clearance do you got?
That's about it.
Do you want to go to 140?
Yeah, that's fine.
We could just start it at 20.
Probably squeeze it up a little bit like that.
Yeah.
20 to 140.
Okay.
Now we got to print it.
I'll just print one on plain paper to start.
Okay.
So the most important setting is 100% scale.
Okay.
So the printer knows to print it at the actual size.
Another kind of hot tip is if you go to the site marks page,
this'll tell you kind of your gaps,
what they should be in inches.
So 40 to zero.
40, zero.
Let's go to 120-ish.
40 to 120 should be 1.449 inches.
1.449.
Nine inches.
So kind of a nice thing to do then is just take that gap.
Inspect what you expect.
And make sure that it's actually right,
because that can save a lot of confusion.
So 40, you kind of see that?
40 to 120.
Yeah, buddy.
So we know that this printed at the proper scale.
So if you're happy with this styling,
we'll go ahead and print it on label paper.
Let's do it.
Do it up.
Yeah, it's sheet labels.
It's kind of my go-to, honestly.
Sheet labels.
Sheet labels, that's the brand.
So what we'll do for this is we'll print the tape again,
but we will go to the one position,
or the single tape, custom position, letter size paper.
And I'll just do like 0.5 inches from the top,
0.5 inches from the left.
And that'll just print one tape
at the very top of this paper,
because that way I can use the same paper
for potentially multiple people.
Yeah.
So that's good.
Especially with a laser printer,
you don't really have to do this,
but I do like to just put a, it kind of helps.
Yeah.
Just last, I mean, the ink doesn't run,
but it's like your indicators can kind of like
gum up the paper a little bit.
I've done it this way and I've also skipped it
and it's pretty fine either way,
but just as an extra, extra piece of insurance.
Folly.
All right, now to get my nephew set up,
then we'll go eat dinner with the squad.
Thank you, sir.
Okay.
So we're just going to do, on Riley's bow here,
we're just going to do the quick start.
Do you think you can put one in the bail on 40?
Just hold, like hold top of the bail.
It should be fine.
So that we just need a launch speed.
We're still going to use the lab radar,
but we're just going to use the launch speed.
We'll just do the quick start for this.
Money.
That's awesome.
This is 27 on the dot.
I thought you were 26 and a half.
It must be 26.
Cause your peep to pin is 25.
And this one's 26 on the dot.
Yeah, you're 26.
I calculate 255.
Perfect.
Estimate, so.
Perfect.
258 is very reasonable, yeah.
Did you screen record your computer stuff?
Oh, the first batch.
Perfect.
I haven't been doing this one.
A launch speed.
So this is like,
if your shop only has like a normal chrono
and you just have that,
or you just have a normal chrono,
you don't want to spend the money on lab radar,
like this is a great option.
Like I use this option all year for indoor 3D.
Like it only goes out to 40 yards.
The tape is, you know,
essentially perfect out to those ranges.
It's really like,
once you get to 120, 130 or whatever,
that's when you're going to start to see the benefit
of some of the other methods.
So for this,
we're just going to use the 258 from the lab radar.
All right.
We'll just do that.
Go out to one.
Yeah.
110ish.
That's plenty, yep.
I'll just do starting at 20 again.
Sometimes it doesn't,
because things get.
Howdy.
How's it going?
We're doing the sight tape test.
Should I be involved?
Yeah, I was waiting for you.
I got to go get a hunting license.
Yeah, that's a good idea.
All right.
We've had terrible weather all week
and he got a new bow
and wanted to do his sight in marks
and he has not had one good day.
That's okay.
Like I dialed in 20
and then I went to do my 60
and that's right around when we got a cold front in
and just,
I left and right wind
and I just did not nail in.
So to understand this better,
when I put this sight tape on,
like it's set up,
I'm ready to go, essentially.
Yeah, you can date this one for a while.
You might have to make tweaks,
but I have a,
I think I have an account still.
I haven't built a sight tape in a while.
Yeah, you definitely still have an account.
Yeah, so the one thing I'd say is like,
sight tapes have somewhat of an expiration date.
Like things change.
Like your strings are going to settle a little bit.
You're tweaking this,
you're tweaking that.
Eventually it just gets to the point
where you should just kind of start over,
make a new one from scratch.
But I guess, I mean,
you'll start to notice
like if it starts to be not quite right,
like, yeah.
But the next step really would be to zero this.
So you have your 20 shot in,
which is like,
we'll start it there.
But if you go to 100
or if you go to 50 or 60 or whatever
and notice you're hitting a little low,
you'll want to like re-zero that indicator
on the tape.
Like you want it to be hitting at 60
when the tape is dialed to 60.
And then you can go back and check 20.
But it's like,
if you zero at 20,
you can have some little bits of error in that mark
that aren't noticeable until you get out farther.
So that's something to keep in mind
since we've only zeroed at 20 so far.
So yeah, we can slap this puppy on
and shoot it.
That's good too.
And then you can move that indicator
down to point to 40
or whatever you're going to use for your other pins.
Guys, thanks for watching.
That was pretty interesting
how Sight Tapes do have expiration dates.
String settle,
timing could change,
you change one thing,
you change everything.
So guys,
do an audit on your Sight Tape
and just go back to the drawing board.
If you've never used Precision Cut Archery,
I strongly recommend it.
What do you charge?
36 bucks a year.
And you're going to be building Sight Tapes custom
for not only tack,
for different arrow setups and configurations,
different bows.
You guys know who you are.
You're all tinkers.
This is the first legit web-based version
I've ever seen that actually works to perfection.
When are you guys going to get a mobile app, man?
It's in progress.
We're almost there.
Coming soon.
Be on the lookout.
Separations in the preparation, guys.
We'll catch you on the next one.
