We're looking for a puppy.
Can we have one of these guys?
Yeah, that's a good photo, don't you think?
Daddy, I want him.
I was kind of hoping I could surprise her today,
but I don't know if it's going to happen.
Go ahead and say.
Oh!
Oh, my gosh!
Hello, everyone.
I'm in front of an animal adoption facility in New York.
My daughter is waiting for me inside.
What she knows is that we are going to shoot
a 10-minute photo challenge.
What she doesn't know is that I'm also hoping
to surprise her with a new pet.
Now, ever since she could walk,
my daughter has had a stuffed animal with her everywhere.
Eating, sleeping, even on the cover of my book.
And for the last several years,
she has been begging us to get a new dog.
She wants a small, cuddly little dog
that she can sleep with and take care of.
This week, I got a letter from a fan, KK.
And she said that she is a huge, huge, huge dog lover,
and she has three dogs that she has adopted
from rescue facilities in New York,
and that I should do the same thing.
And you are right, because we are all at home.
Perfect time to get to know a pet
and to have a little companionship.
So here we are at North Shore Animal League America.
It is the world's largest no-kid rescue
and adoption organization with shelter partners
across the country.
To find a shelter in your area, go to animalleague.org.
Okay, now, there's no guarantee that we're actually
going to find a pet for Salish today,
but I did ask on Instagram if you wanted me
to make a video about this, and you said yes.
So let's see if we can turn my daughter's stuffed animal
into a real animal.
Okay, everybody, we are inside the facility.
We are about to walk in and do our 10-minute photo challenge.
Whenever we go inside, we need to put on a mask,
so put on our masks, and let's go.
Oh, my God, this little face. Look at that little face.
Okay, let's go.
You excited? I'm so excited.
There's so many cute animals here.
All right, everyone, I am in the Rachel Ray cat room
at the North Shore Animal League America
to see how many awesome shots I can get with my daughter
and animals in 10 minutes for the 10-minute photo challenge.
Rachel is a counselor here.
She is going to be our timer today.
Whenever you go adopt a pet, you do get a counselor
to help you find the right pet.
She's going to do that for us today.
When I say go, we go. Are you ready?
I am ready.
Okay, one, two, three, go.
Okay, Rachel, can you please find a cat
that Salish can hold?
Yes.
Salish, will you do an oversplit here?
So I want to put your legs right here.
Yeah, flex. That is really cute.
Right there, right off the bat.
That's really cute. Yes, there, there.
Straighten the legs, straighten the legs.
Got it. That was perfect. Okay, that was a little loud.
I got to stay calm in front of the cats.
Okay, do you have a kitten room?
Yes, we do. Let's go over this way.
Kittens, kittens, let's go.
Okay, we're looking for kittens.
Oh, Salish, do you mind if I borrow this real quick for a photo?
Salish, you got to clean up, okay?
We're going to clean up the facility a little
as a thank you for having us here.
Okay, can you do that thing?
Yeah, let's see it. Go back that way.
And go.
Oh, that's good, but keep your face down
when you do that, okay?
And go.
Let me look at it.
Say, say.
Whoa, where'd you learn to do that, little girl?
Boom. Okay, let's go.
Say, say. Sanitize your hands.
Okay.
Oh, kittens. Oh, boy.
I'm going to silhouette, say.
I want you to stand on here.
These kittens are so cute, I want all of them.
Oh, my God, you are so cute.
Hold them like this.
You're going to hold them up and arch back and give them a kiss, okay, say?
Oh, it's great with all the light pouring in.
You know what? As long as she's over there,
it's okay for her to take the mask off.
Okay, say, just here, I'm going to take off your mask
just for this real quick shot, and then we'll put it back on again, okay?
Okay, here we go.
Okay, right there, yes.
Oh, good.
Yes. Oh, that's so cute.
Okay, we got it, okay.
Oh, that's awesome.
Isn't that so cute? Oh, my gosh.
Okay, what's another really cool room?
You know what? Let's go meet some of the puppies downstairs.
Puppies.
You want to meet some puppies?
Yes, puppies. You want to see puppies?
Okay, let's see puppies.
Here, do you want to take this guy?
Yeah.
Let's go get puppies. Hold on, wait, put your mask on.
We're looking for a puppy.
Here we go.
I have no idea what they have here,
but I'm hoping it's like a really cute little puppy
that becomes a little dog.
You guys want to go in and meet the puppies?
Yes, yes, we do, for sure.
Oh, my gosh, you have got to be kidding me
with how cute this is.
So, say,
why don't you just get down in here and start playing with them?
Hi.
Can she take her mask off in here?
Yeah, as long as she's over there, that's fine.
Oh, okay. Which one is the sweetest one?
This guy right here.
This guy right there? Oh, okay.
All right, why don't you hold that guy and, like,
snuggle him and pet him?
Yes, yes, you like that.
Stand up here, and I want you to put your right leg on the thing.
You know that thing?
And then can you give her one puppy to, like, hold?
Awesome, awesome.
And then you get a dog in there and hold him.
Nice and cute.
That was cute.
That looks really, really good, say.
You guys like that shot? Yeah, that's a good photo, don't you think?
I want all the puppies around Salish's feet.
Do you have treats or something?
No, I have some treats right here.
Hit it, hit it, say, say, hit it, hit it.
Get that knee. Get that knee.
Nice, hold it there.
Excuse me, guys.
There we go. You sit down.
You get in the ball pit. Just sit down in there.
I'm getting distracted from our challenge.
Okay, I need my strap back, please.
All right, here we go.
And let's see if we can get any number of puppies
in there with her.
Are those going to end up being big dogs?
They're all going to be medium to large size.
Hey, say, you know how you always wanted a little dog?
Yeah.
Yeah, well, these guys are little now, but they're going to be big one day,
so maybe one day we'll find you a little dog, okay?
Okay.
Oh, my gosh, that's so cute. Let me just get that picture.
I want this guy. That's tickly.
Is there a chance that we could give one of these dogs
like a bath or something?
Yeah, I think actually he is due for a bath anyway.
Do you want to give the dog a bath?
Yeah. Okay, let's do it.
Here, say, put on your mask for when we go to the next spot, okay?
Let's go this way.
Oh, sick. Okay, so can she wash him?
Yeah.
Like with soap and stuff?
Yeah, I'm going to put him in the tub.
Say, take off your shoes. Do you have an apron?
Yeah.
Just put that on.
I want to maybe surprise Salish with an actual dog.
Okay, oh, my God.
But I think we're looking for something little,
so if you think of a little dog, okay?
Okay.
Then just let us know.
Okay, yeah. Okay, great.
Rachel, can Salish take off her mask again for the photo?
Yes.
How are you doing? Are you having fun?
Yeah.
I want every animal at my home, but that would be a little much.
You get to have a bath.
There you go. Just not in his ears.
Rub him down a little bit.
We're going to put some soap on him.
Okay, perfect.
Say, do you want to take a photo of you with him?
Yeah.
Hold him, like, facing your face, okay?
And can you do a big hinge, say?
Right, like that, yes.
Okey-dokey.
Okay, big time hinge.
And good hinge.
Yeah, so cute.
So now we just have to rinse him off.
There you go.
It's okay.
And Rachel, you can step back,
and we can just get that shot, hopefully.
Just be talking to him.
Aw, look at me, guy.
Yeah.
I know, say, say.
I know. He's going to be a really big dog, though.
So now we're going to dry him off.
Okay.
Take a towel,
wrap him up,
and just dry him off a little bit.
Oh, that's too much.
Nice.
You can penche. Put him right here.
Hold it.
Shoulder down.
Can I do a needle?
Yes, right there.
Yes, yes, that's it.
That's so cute.
That was adorable.
Where else can we go?
Why don't we go out to the big dogs?
Great. Do you want to see a big dog, say?
Yeah.
I'm going to pop him in the dryer.
Oh, that's cute.
There you go, bud.
So Salish doesn't know anything about getting a dog, okay?
There's big dogs, but if there's any small dogs, okay?
Yes, yes.
She gets a little skittery around big dogs.
Gabe, we're going to run out.
Can you watch the puppy?
Thank you.
Okay, if you guys are loving these animals, just remember
these exact animals might not be available for adoption,
but these are the kind of animals you can find at a shelter near you.
This is the walk area.
This is where our adopters get to meet the dogs
for the first time.
Oh, is there a dog that Salish can meet?
I'm actually going to bring a dog in here. Is that okay?
Yeah, please do.
Oh, hi.
What a sweet puppy.
Hi.
Can Salish take her mask off for a photo?
That's fine.
What would you think about a dog like this?
No? Why? Is it too scary? Too big? Too much energy?
Yeah.
Okay, do you want to do a photo with it?
Okay, you can do a photo. Okay.
If she holds these treats and just holds it out,
she'll take it from her.
Whack a ponche when I say so, okay?
And go.
Yes. Again. Go.
That's so cute. Go.
Oh, hold on.
Could you lay on the ground
on your stomach?
Make sure your legs are right.
Your legs stay. Yes.
Oh, that's gorgeous. Got it.
Okay, that's awesome. Okay, let's move on.
Say, say, put your mask back on and sanitize your hands.
And I have a dog right here. Do you want to walk him outside?
Okay, so I'm going to put him on a leash.
Hold this tight.
Right there.
Bird is about five months old.
Five months old. So he's going to get bigger, too.
Oh, yeah. Yeah.
So he was rescued from a puppy mill.
A puppy mill. And we rescued them
and brought them here. Whenever we rescue
and we bring animals here, once they get adopted,
you're not saving one life, you're saving two
because you're saving the life of the animal
that you're adopting, and you're freeing up space
for another animal to come and be rescued.
So you find a dog or a cat,
another animal, you're saving two lives.
Yes. How big will that dog be?
Oh, he's going to be like 80 pounds.
I was kind of hoping I could surprise her today, but I don't know if it's going to happen.
Oh, okay.
Why don't you do a leap where you leap up and you kick your leg back.
Hold that tight. Yeah, there you go. Perfect.
Ready?
Let's see if Bert happens to walk like he's supposed to here.
Go. Go jump when he does that.
Oh!
Oh. Nope.
That way. Again!
Hold on. Whoops.
Nope.
So maybe that's why we're not going to get a big dog for Salish.
Yes! You got this.
Yes! That's the one.
Got it, got it, got it. Okay, let's go on.
Do you guys have an outdoor space where dogs roam free?
Yes, we have a dog park.
Right in here? You can go right there. Yep.
There's more dogs in here. Okay, come on, Salish.
Hoping for a small dog.
How cute is this little orange guy?
I want you to grab him,
and then I want you to whack a tilt.
Yes. Oh, good.
Again. Go.
Oh, gosh. That was so good.
Oh, that was so cute.
Oh, my gosh, Say.
Look at this face. This guy is so cute.
Say, he's so cute.
You know, he's going to be about 80 pounds.
Say, 80 pounds is about 65 pounds more
than you can handle.
But you know what?
I actually have the perfect dog for you guys.
I put him aside, and it's a surprise,
and I'm going to bring you to the other park.
Really? Yes.
We've got 30 more seconds.
I have one more spot. Do you guys want to go?
Let's go.
Say, say, let's see if we can get one more photo.
Go ahead in, Say.
You want to do one more photo? Yeah.
I'll give you a squirt on our back.
Let's see it.
Oh, that's really cute, Say.
Oh.
That is such a sweet photo.
What's up with this dog?
He's available for adoption.
He's really sweet. He's three years old.
He's been in a few homes,
so it's hard for him to get adopted.
So I've always thought
if you can, adopt an adult, right?
Because puppies go quicker.
Yeah, absolutely.
Once he finds his forever home,
and he's been given that name for the rest of his life,
he'll be a great dog.
He doesn't have a name? No name.
Hey, Say, what do you think of this dog?
I like him.
Hey, Say, say. Yeah?
Do you want to take him home with us?
Yeah!
I thought you might say that.
She might not need him anymore.
What do you think his name should be?
I don't know.
You guys want to tell us what his name should be?
Go to the Community tab and name our dog.
Thank you, everybody.
If you can adopt, you'd make your kids really happy.
And if you can donate, please do.
The shelters need your help.
We'll make a description.
And we're out!
